My Dad got Crypto scammed (UFJPRO)

Hey guys,

i need some help, or some advise from you.
My dad got scamed into investing alot of money in Crypto.

He downloaded an App called UFJPRO. Has someone heard about it?
He invested around 100k into that App. I always told him, he shouldnt trust someone, he met online.
Now he finaly wants to get the crypto, or money out of there, but they wont let him.
They force him to pay 10k service charge.

Is that legit? I cant believe, they give him the Money, after he pays the money.

Does anyone have a tipp, or experience with that?

That definitely sounds like a scam.  If they already have $100k, why on earth would they need him to send $10k more?

Not to mention, that app is not available on the google play app store, it's only available on third-party sites.  That's also a red flag.

I'm sorry for your dad's loss, but I doubt he'll ever get that money back.

Sounds like the classic romance scam you can find on youtube, just without (or maybe with) the romance.

These scammers get your attention and then point you toward a "great investment opportunity" at whatever site or app.
Of course these sites are made 1 month prior and have 0 reputation.
In the beginning you see massive gains and they lure you in to invest more.
Once you actually want to get the money out there will be problems and so on.

Having to pay whatever amount to get the money is ridiculous. The worst thing is, once you paid the for example 10k they will come up with another excuse to pay something else like taxes or whatever. The victim is marked as a person that has money and also sends it, so they are trying to extract everything until nothing is left, that's when they cu the contact.

Im sorry to hear that, that is definitely a scam. Please tell your Dad, do not send more money to them.
From the results of my search I think they tried to scamming people from Asia.

I think they paid for small profits/balance with intention to lure people to invest more.
Collect more information as much as you can before report it to the police and hope that the scammer operates from your country, it might be easier for the police to catch them.

Getting the money back is close to 0. These people mostly are professionals and they know how to not leave trails that can lead to them. Of course everybody makes mistakes but since they are somewhere in Asia ( India, Thailand, Vietnam and so on ) or Africa, these are the most common locations, the problem of jurisdiction is also a problem.

Also, the scammer himself/herself is mostly just an employee of a bigger group, most of the money is already in the bosses pocket unfortunately.

The only thing you can do is going to the police and urge your dad to stop sending money. It is 10000000% a scam.

He will hear plenty of stories that will sound like his. Sorry for the loss of money but at least he didn't sell the house and send that as well, I saw videos of that happening.

Just tell him that he'll never get back the $100k even if you pay a ransom of $10k. That's how it is and let it alone accept that he's got scammed. It's gonna be a hard pill to swallow what just happened to him but that's the reality.

Sadly, the chance is from small to zero. This is crypto and that person your dad might have talked to wasn't even a real person with that name and picture whatsoever. It's an outright scammer that has been doing this thing for so long. Maybe coming from that app itself, if there will be some in-depth analysis and track, it's possible who is behind it but it will cost you a lot of money I guess. Sorry OP and to your dad, that's like a money gone forever and you're unlikely to see the person behind that scam app. An expensive lesson and tell your dad to never talk again with any strangers online. It's a red flag when a stranger offers financial tips or apps specifically wanting you to download and deposit money because it's likely 100% they're the owner of that fake/scam app.

Unfortunately, we haven't heard of that App, I did try to search for it though, and it seems it was a trading app. So your dad meet someone in the online world and ask him to download this app? It seems that is already a classic scam trick.

Not to burst the bubble for you, but this is very similar trick to a romance or dating scam.

And there's no way that you your dad can get his money back, sorry to tell you that.

if i were in his situation i think i would also just do the same. pay the $10k just so i can get the 90k back. so many scams happening around crypto, just a day ago there was also a victim who somehow trusted someone online again and acted as if their investment manager.

anyone should realize that when the money is out of your control, it means, it's not yours already. basically, you should get them back and if they wanna advise on which to invest, you can do it yourself.

Dating scam? I don't understand how someone gets scammed these days on dating sites. Was your dad talking with a woman? Did they cam chat? As soon as they ask for money that should be a sign to walk away. If your dad offered a few bucks to help with a bill or whatnot that would be ok, but to lose 100k and not even get the pussy is crazy.

Definitely consult with a lawyer and see if they can get anything done for you, but most likely that money is gone.

App is gone from Google play, but at least you have someone's (probably fake) name..

Contact google support, he might have downloaded it there before they removed it.

Of course, they won't let him because what he was seeing on the app is just numbers and the real crypto is in the wallet of the scammer. The sad news is that they will keep pressuring him to pay other service charges so he can withdraw his funds but it's all a lie.
All these strategies are old scamming strategy which was refined into new concept and platform.

It is never a legit scheme and it's just the same as the investment ROI scam.

Yes, but there's nothing we can do to help your father get back his lost fund. I think the authorities can help you though.

I assumed it was a scam at first glance, like scams in general, they don't care about picking a brand name that is easy to remember. It's never even been reviewed on any site.

Learn from mistakes, greed and stubbornness.
This is technical work, lawyers can't help. 99% chance there will be no refund.

Well the app looks like the ones where you appear to make a lot of money after depositing a certain amount but its all fake and made up. The moment you try to withdraw your inflated balance it asks for withdrawal fee or something in those lines. These are common scams where the scammer lures the victim to such an app and makes them deposit money there - try to avoid the direct asking for money line.

So firstly your did not get scammed by investing in crypto - in fact they never invested anything in crypto at all.

Either way, try the legal route, but chances of recovery are very slim. This event should make your entire family aware of how these scams run and how to avoid them in future.

Imho, chances of ever getting your money back or even scammers getting prosecuted are slim to none. That of course doesn't mean its pointless to get a lawyer and try, but you should be prepared to the fact that 99.99% your father will never get his money back.

I am not really surprised at this point, usually, people who get scammed on dating sites are lonely people who are desperate for a companion and intimacy(may it be physical or emotional). from what I have heard, these romance scammers are really good at talking and manipulating people, especially the ones who are lonely and desperate.

don't pay the service fee charge, it is a common tactic that scammers use to take more money from their victims.
