I was surprised to see that buying and selling accounts is not prohibited in this forum. But looking into it I only saw offers that looked like scams (based on the red alert that flags on top of them).

So I'm wondering if there truly are account sellers. Or even buyers! Is this a liquid market? How much would someone pay on average for a M/Full M/Sr. M/Hero M/L account?

Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.
Advertised sites are not endorsed by the Bitcoin Forum. They may be unsafe, untrustworthy, or illegal in your jurisdiction.

People are willing to pay a higher amount on any account depending on how much they feel they can make with the account before the account gets boasted.

If it's an account that has a name on the forum and it's kind of like almost every manager wants to enrol in their campaign, then it will have a higher bid on them, and people will be willing to pay thousands of dollars for it because they know what they will earn from it.

But there is one thing that people fail to undertake about an account and the reason why they tag a sold account here. When I build an account, I build it based on how I want it to replicate me here, so if someone wants to hire the account for something, they are hiring it based on who they feel is behind the account, so if the account changes hands, then the account will no longer be worth what it was supposed to be worth.

You can sell an account, but you can't sell the brain behind it. If you can't maintain the idea the original owner had on that account, then the account might be half useless unless the change is not noticed on time.

Is there a way to safely buy/sell accounts?
Safe from whom, dishonest buyers/sellers? There is no guaranteed way, at least use escrow, that is if someone is willing.
Safe from investigation? Maybe, once purchased, don't use that account ever.
Most people who know how this forum works, they wouldn't consider buying an account. It's like buying an activated time bomb.

Why even buy at all?

Account buying and selling is always discouraged. If any DT member sees anyone using a bought account he/she will tag that user instantly. I wouldn't even create such a topic and discuss about it.

Is there a way to safely buy/sell accounts?
It's like buying an activated time bomb.
Yeah, that's exactly the point. Why take the risk when you can rank up on your own, if you had the dedication and patience. Not worth the hassle.

Just look at yourself, OP. With just only 12 posts you were able to earn 59 merits. That is more than an achievement. You'll reach higher rank in no time.  Wink

If you had written something like this a few years ago, it would have been enough for some DT members to paint your profile red - and even now if you ask such a question, it is a completely legitimate question why you are interested in it - and the only logical answer is that you might want to buy BTT account.

I don't know if you're just playing a beginner who wants to give the impression that he's interested in these kinds of things, or if you have a tactic that helped you get more merits in a very short period of time than some others in a few months.

Op, I take it your time capsule project didn't go well, is that why you have decided to get into account sale business? Lol.

Jokes aside, even though it's allowed, but it's frowned upon even to talk about it, so, no we have no safe method to suggest. Sorry. Besides, you are a developer, better stick to what really can change the world. Developing new things.
Unless of course you have also developed a dedicated auction system to safely do this?

So I'm wondering if there truly are account sellers. Or even buyers! Is this a liquid market? How much would someone pay on average for a M/Full M/Sr. M/Hero M/L account?
Who knows? I don't know since I never buy or sell an account. But I know the average price for each rank.

The offers look like a scam because they sellers were tagged. If you go to service board and create such a thread of selling account, your profile will also be painted with red even if you actually want to sell accounts genuinely.

If I may ask, are there still clean accounts for sell? I guess some of the accounts for sell are accounts with reputational issues.

Now, you have to beg Apocollapse to stop digging more. Maybe any post that has few lines of code in them deserves any amount of merits.

I've seen threads where accounts where accused of being bought and tagged because members found that there is enough evidence that the account is no longer handled by the original owner of the account and I've seen someone admitting that they bought the account.

How much would someone pay on average for a M/Full M/Sr. M/Hero M/L account?
I don't think anyone really knows, as you have said, the offers you saw looked like scams.

It's not prohibited, but I always wonder why a person buys accounts and I only find one answer: scamming people.

The objective of participating in the forum is to meet people, network, and to do this you need to build image and reputation. All of this takes time.

And even for those who buy to use a type "password for the next level". I say: other people notice and your credibility disappears. End of the game. Not worth it.

Not necessarily, not always. But I am suspicious of anyone who buys an account, and I have reflected this in feedbaks I have left. Not everyone agrees but if I see that an account has changed hands for me it deserves a red tag. Can't you create an account and rank up as the rest of us have done? Wanting to take shortcuts tells me that person is not to be trusted.

This is just more proof that the OP is not a beginner, and that @aleph1 very likely belongs to him, and that he is in the construction phase of making very successful alt farm so far. If I had to bet whose alt accounts those are, I'd put a big bet on someone who has been the main topic on the Reputation board for months.

Of course, this is not an accusation, just my personal opinion.

It is explained in the list of forum rules and guidelines why buying and selling accounts are not prohibited but it is frown upon doing so in this forum. If ever the account is proven to be bought or sold then it will surely get red tagged or having negative trust. Anyway, you seem interested in this matter and it made me think you are planning to buy an account or maybe sell an account and just to be safe then you created this thread to gather information if it's allowed or not allowed to sell accounts. I don't have any proof to show or provide to my claim but it is what my guts tell me. Anyway, I have nothing against you and I am only sharing what I think and what I feel about this.

@aleph1 was just an experiment.

I tend to post the first thing that goes through my mind, so I respect and like when other people do so as well!

I don't know if you're just playing a beginner who wants to give the impression that he's interested in these kinds of things, or if you have a tactic that helped you get more merits in a very short period of time than some others in a few months.
Do you think this post deserved to get 23 merits?, that's the first post of brand new user who registered in December 17, 2023. @OP is also a brand new user who earn a lot merit from his first post, so... do you get what I mean? Roll Eyes

For someone who is a just brand new account getting 23 merit with just a single post single activity is kind of (highly) suspicious. If it were a rank ranked member that would have been different story. But with brand new, it's naturally that people (we) will think it's an alt, and most likely it's an alt account.

I don't know if it's a pure mistake done by OP or not. But just as Lucius said, it's not an accusation, but his personal opinion (Which is also what I believe).

I remembered there was a user from Pakistan (if I remember correctly), who accidentally gave 22 merits instead of 2 merits, later he made a post. And everything settled before anyone though of anything negative. So maybe OP should/should have made things clear before any misunderstanding occurs/occurred.

I discovered that you don't lose merit when sending merit. I read how smerit works. To test it out I created aleph1 to dump all my smerit in and recovered half of it.

I was surprised as well but it's arguable reasonable. Someone might be tired of his account and wants to dispose of it, and through marketing get to sell it. But it will be fair and also fine if the person who bought the account can maintain the quality, after all, it's the username we are talking about, not a big deal, anyone can still work it. The big deal here is to continue to add value to the forum through your quality posting. However, one could be scammed through it in my thinking, of course, every seller does not come with genuine intentions.

Yes, they exist truly, and there are some that are even marketing it on the forum in the service section. Of course, if there is a seller, there should be a buyer, and this is what encourages them to do more in the forum. As for the amount the accounts are being sold for, I believe it depends on the sellers and the buyers. I witnessed one listing of about $45-57 for the top-level memberships, but I can't remember the package vividly anymore. Some could advertise multiple accounts at once too, which means they are farming the accounts for that purpose which I believe is very wrong.

Bingoo! You do admit it's your alt account then.

Check this thread: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ

Using multi account is allowed, but sending Merits to your own accounts is considered Merits farming which is not allowed.

No you cannot lose your merits with any case but however you can loss your rank if you lose too much of your activity. So how can one lose their activity? If you delete your posts or any mods delete your posts (too much), that can cause the activity to fall down AFAIK.  Smiley

Also, when sending someone Merits, you are not sending them your own Merits. But what you send is called sMerits (It's different). It's generated when you earn Merits. For example if you earn 10 Merits you get 5 sMerits (half) which you can sent to others.

Hey, leave OP alone, he is a newbie not familiar with how we do things here, if he merited his alt, doesn't matter, now he knows it's against community standards, from now on, he won't do it again.

So meriting to own accounts, selling accounts is against community standards, please refrain from doing that again.
