secrecy vs visibility; creating a balance.

In as much as we are all networked differently and have different views about things, there is always a point where we meet and make some compromises just so we can be more productive and make the best out of our lives.

I know people who are very secretive about the kind of job or thing they do for a living and could be very good at a particular skill without ever showing it off, they can even stay in an environment where people they are better than are talking about how good they are in the field but will never show that they know what's being discussed.

While this is good and will prevent unnecessary attention, it could prevent one from getting certain opportunities and recommendations since most persons don't even know that you're good at the said skill.

There are others who although they might not be all that good at a certain skill, will constantly post on their social media platforms that they are into a said skill and will show off any little project worked on and obviously get the needed recognition with time.

How do we get a balance between being a bit secretive and at the same time not allowing it deprive us of opportunities that might come our way?

There is certain information that you just need to keep within yourself and allow others who are arguing about it to just keep the discussion going. Why do you watch and say nothing? Because getting attached to it might make you appear to be in a difficult situation where they might want to be running to you every now and then about such things and might even inconvenience you. I mean information about your involvement in crypto currency and the level of knowledge you have about it; not everyone needs to know about it.
 
But when it comes to personal skills that one has, we don’t need to hide them from people as we never can tell who will connect us to that big contract. Just like myself, I’m still going into the paint and chemical industry. I don’t have much idea about it, but each time that I see where they are talking about a related topic or I even see a new building, I walk down there and advertise myself. Sometimes people take my number and call me for work aside from the site, and I always go with someone who is more perfect than me to take a quotation, and we run the work together.

Sincerely speaking the balancing is very difficult. What I see there is that most people are the quiet and shy type or lacks advitisment skill. but knows the work very well. Or sometimes might know what they are talking but sees no need to interfere into an unending or unnecessary conversation.

While most people are good in advertisement but don't know the work that much. And this set of people are more oppotuned to win big contracts. And hand over the job to people who knows it very well in form of contract. This set of People are more smarter than the skilled men.  And they take advantage of that. That's why we have contractors everywhere.

What I think is that those that knows the work should try there best and attach themeselfs to those that know advertisement. to help them promoting there business since they can't do it. Just like a partnership business where if the advertiser will make provision for work to the one that knows it and both can shear the money. Or better still the workman should improve his skill of advertisement to make more money than always being bored.

That's very correct my brother many of get ourselves entangled in situation we don't want to be in because we blab too much and fail to keep some things to ourselves. I believe that everything has time and season so if you actually place your involvement in such discussions correctly then you will enjoy the serienity and peace of mind that comes with both actions. I know of a guy in my area that I can say talks and involves too much even of the things that are supposed to be vital to him he exposes and this is very bad as the world today we can vouch for anyone in terms of their thinking towards you.

Most times, they are even better than those who show off their skill on social media and public discussions. People who tend to be shy or not into business advertisment might be due to illiteracy, because most of those people who actually takes this hand work serious are those who chose it from the start and have made it their life career unlike some that went to school and still feel those skill/ handwork are just temporary hustle.

Imho, creating a balance in this case might be difficult. when we talk about people who have certain skills but don't share it with people or even converse about it, it's based on the type of skill that is in play, just as the first commenter skills like crypto related stuff shouldn't be shared anyhow.

But I believe that in some areas of skills it's required that you advertise yourself in order to get the required attention. if you're a photographer for example and nobody knows about it how do you perform your skill? it's an open skill that needs to be shown to get attention but if we talk about skills like dollar exchanger to local currency you don't discuss such thing with people except for a specific reason if not you get yourself in trouble. if your in Nigeria you will understand, people can attack you at anytime just for sharing such information with them.

like you said about people who share the little they do on social media handles its because they are handling an open skill that requires people's view on it. and I believe it helps too to share every little progress bit by bit because when you share it it brings back a pressure that motivates you to do better because people are watching you.

Now creating a balance, if you have a skill that requires people to know you before you can get success then you should learn how to advertise yourself but if you do somethings that brings unnecessary attention don't share or disclose it to avoid problem.

Wetin u just talk now na true be that, no body everybody dey sabi show off, and those kind people, if u see them self, u go talk say this one nah mumu, person go dey look down on them like say dey fit know anything, but if u see those kind people in action ehn, or u came mistakenly come across them for wer dem dey work, u go shock, even some people wey go school dey like that, some of dem no dey too show themselves too, if dey no show person their certificate, na so person go dey underrate dem, na those people wey nothing dey for their brain self, na e dem dey over show demselves, them dey over do, shakara no go gree them but nothing dem sabi, to do work well self na problem and truth be told , for this our country na those kind people na e no dey waste time make am for life quick but u see those people who work diligently, if no be grace of God, people no go recognize them but I like my country people, them no dey reason government work, once u get wetin dey put food for ur table, they are good to work, beside government work na monthly and e no really dey easy to save. Creating a balance is as important as learning the skill in the first place. So it doesn't sound like one is selfish, even concerning crypto, it is good to know when to talk and when not to...

Creating a balance in your openness about your skill depends on your target audience, if the general public is your marketplace, then you need to be open about your skill, but not your finances. Where the risk comes in handy  most times is if you flaunt your finances and assets value to the public. On the  other hand, those that  work remotely for companies online need not be open about their skills since they would not be being the public to make a living unless they intend doing private works too, the marketing departments of such companies reaches out to the public if needs be.

You must be very careful in talking about your worth and achievements to strangers, even some friends as they may be the wrong audience, lest you would be drawing unnecessary attention to yourself and its sort of detrimental, most especially we that earn in crypto. Crypto involvement sparks a kind of thought in people's minds and they're fast to conclude that you've made it in life. I've read a story about a female who poisoned her friend simply because she's loud about her achievements which made her friend seem insecure and decided to end it by killing her with a slow poison.

Lastly, be very precise while marketing your skills to ensure you market them to the right audience, I man those who need your skills to solve their problems, target them, sell yourself to them properly, be smart and you get your wins. Few years ago I watched a documentary where Lambourgini executive came for interview and he was asked why they don't invest much in media promotions, he replied instantly that their target customers aren't those that always watch TV. Know your target customers and how to engage them and you're a winner.
