I thought Lopez has already announced his retirement from professional boxing? These boxers announcing retirement cannot stick to their word probably because of money and the desire to fight.
Ortiz is probably an easy opponent for Teofimo. Teofimo is still quick, so in terms of points he may outscore Ortiz. In terms of powerful punch that will bring the fight to an end anytime within rounds, Teofimo has also more power than Ortiz, so I think Lopez is still at an advantage. But I voted Lopez by UD.
I didn't think that you will believed his retirement announcement though? I mean he is still very young to retire and you can see from his personality that he make controversial statements and probably his retirement announcement is just one antics on his fight. I guess he already proves that he has power in this division and now he beat the unify champion in Josh Taylor. So this is his first time to defend his belt, so I think he will be the favorite and has all the advantage and possible that he can KO Lopez here although I think Ortiz could be bigger fight night if there is no rehydration clause.

I also don't think that Ortiz is the optimal one for Teófimo but now we start to see Ortiz can give a great surprise and, this boxer has always been at a good level, now that I see that it may be that he has improved a lot with respect to his performance, I imagine that if he is close to fighting with Teo, he wants to do well and not have any type of mistake, at least that's what I would do because if he pushes himself he can give good results and he can go ahead in everything, so seeing what he can achieve is It is likely that things will be very favorable to him, so in this set of ideas I would think that Teo is doing everything to not lose this fight (if it happens) although as I said before I think that Ortiz is a very strong fighter, he can give a surprise to his fans. Of course, seeing this from a much more daring point of view because when it comes to doing anything to be able to hope for something good, it is simply something that we cannot hope for. In this fight, the truth is I have no idea who can win, I don't see none very outstanding, maybe Teo, but that is something very superficial, what catches my attention about this is that when you need to have a fight of this style it takes a long time for it to happen, Although on the 8th February is a date that is already monetized, right now we are in January, we have to take it as the fierce January because these days are holidays, and the truth is I don't believe that boxers start to be very concentrated in their fights, maybe the most disciplined yes, but I see it as very viable, no one likes to train or work on December 24 or December 31 and perhaps the diet does not Apply for these dates , because meals are Something that can be given and having as a base gaining weight, and just 1 kg that is gained is difficult to lose is to increase the training x2 until it is achieved, although I personally would do it, without a doubt I would not have problems with that, that is what occurs to me . Teofimo Lopez-Jamaine Ortiz, Keyshawn Davis-Jose Pedraza To Headline Super Bowl Week Show In Las Vegas On Feb. 8Top Rank will be leveraging the week leading up to the Super Bowl to stage a super twin billing showcasing some of the top stars from its stable.
The NFL’s marquee championship matchup will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday, Feb. 11, and Top Rank will be presenting a show on Thursday, Feb. 8 on ESPN, most likely at the nearby Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Top Rank boss and Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum told BoxingScene.com in an interview on Monday that the main event will feature Teofimo Lopez Jr. looking to defend his WBO junior welterweight title against Jamaine Ortiz, and the co-main event will feature lightweight upstart Keyshawn Davis taking on former two-division titlist Jose Pedraza.
“We have a big platform for Teofimo – the week leading up to the Super Bowl is massive,” said Arum. “That will be a way to advance Teofimo into big, massive fights for the rest of 2024. And then there is the step-up, tough fight for our rising star Keyshawn Davis.”
Arum also noted that fast-rising rising phenoms Emiliano Vargas and Abdullah Mason are also slated to be featured on the undercard.
Top Rank pulled off a similar script during Formula 1 week in Las Vegas earlier this year. On Thursday, Nov. 9, Shakur Stevenson headlined a show against Edwin De Los Santos at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas before the popular car race took over The Strip that weekend.
It’s not the fight against Ryan Garcia that Oscar De La Hoya teased, but Lopez will still be promoted on a grand stage. Source: https://www.boxingscene.com/teofimo-lopez-jamaine-ortiz-keyshawn-davis-jose-pedraza-headline-super-bowl-week-show-las-vegas-on-feb-8--180118

Just crazy to hear that Teo is retiring, A complete shocker it was not. More like the pre-ordained ending of a not-so-elaborate publicity stunt, at best.
Yep, that’s what it was.
In an announcement that surprised very few people, Teofimo Lopez declared his retirement null and void and called out archrival Devin Haney in yet another profanity-laced social media tirade, just hours before a generous deadline given by the WBO for Lopez to confirm his retirement was due to expire.
https://www.ringtv.com/655887-teofimo-lopez-un-retires-just-in-time-to-keep-his-belt-and-risk-it-against-devin-haney/Although the article says that he wants Haney, not going to happen obviously as he Ortiz in mind at least early next year. And maybe him and Haney can talk about that fight. Both of them have belts so inevitably they will have to face to unify the belt as this is not the story, Crawford done it and now Naoya Inoue is looking to do the same against Tapales.

Teo is just 26 yo, he was just saying he wants to retire but at that age, it's a prime age. Ortiz hasn't fought at 140 yet, he is good but this is risky for him and Teo will probably be able to play around with him. Teo capitalized on his win over Loma while Ortiz was defeated despite Loma's age. For Teo, this isn't a real big fight but it will still be interesting to watch. It'd be a surprise to see Teo lose.

Ortiz is a good contender but his best fights have been at lightweight. If he couldn't defeat Loma then I don't see how he can beat Teofimo in a higher weight class. We've seen Teo struggle against average fighters but maybe the win against Josh Taylor will give him the confidence he had been lacking in previous fights. This should be a nice showcase during Super Bowl week in Las Vegas. There will be lots of attention on this fight and if he wins Teofimo's next fight could be a PPV against Matias in New York.
He only had one lose against George Kambosos Jr, the boxer that was schooled by Devin Haney two times. Teo had a statement that he was not anymore comfortable on that weight os he moved up and he proved his excuse was true. Beating Josh Taylor who's also a champion, that would say a lot about the skills of Teo, and as long as he is very confident in the division he's holding now, I doubt a challenger who failed against Loma has a chance of upsetting him. What we are seeing on Teo now is a more matured and smarter boxer. His loss to Kambosos was a wake up call that he cannot be too cocky all the time and underestimate his opponent. If we watch again the fight, we will see that Teo aren't playing defense and was just trying to look for a one punch KO, but it's unfortunate for him as Kambosos wasn't playing around, he was too focus with his counterpunches that hurt Teo although Teo survived in the fight. That mistake will never happen again. If I'm not mistaken, Teo was able able to knock down Kambosos in that fight? So he was trying to make a comeback, unfortunately he just fell short, but the scores were very close. So most likely it could go either way in that fight, if only Teo was very careful early and not let Kambosos take control. I can't remember anymore if Teo scored a knock down, but if he did, it's still not enough as Kambosos were dominating most of the rounds, and you can see Teo was really bloody on that fight as he was hit many times with clean shots. But here it might be very different, for Ortiz, first time to move in 140 lbs, so there's no more weight drain. But we haven't seen his power yet or whether he can carry his true power in this weight class. So let's give Ortiz a benefit of a doubt and that it could be a better fight, more thant we expected.
Lopez will be happy to know that or to see him struggle because as for him, being the champion, he is already in a very comfortable weight and he could deliver his best in this fight. So no more high expectation from me for Ortiz, as I believe this is just a cherry picked fight for Lopez.

Teo is the champion so he really need to win this fight to be able to land that big fights against Haney or Ryan Garcia. Retiring is not an option of him, he might have just to used that to bring hype on his name or try to force Top Rank to give him more money. That is right, we haven't seen his 140 lbs version, all we have seen is his 135 lbs version of him fighting Loma. And in his last fight at 135 lbs, he struggles and that's why he move up to 140 lbs and it was good that he was also a Top Rank boxer that's why he was given this opportunity to fight for the belt eventhough this is his first time at this weight class. So Teo better capitalized on this and defend his belt with a win.

Teo is just 26 yo, he was just saying he wants to retire but at that age, it's a prime age. It might not be a prime age yet for a boxer, or even in any other sports. But I do agree that he is not going to retire that early, it's unusual for a young boxer to retire, he just want to attract attention, that's it. Ortiz hasn't fought at 140 yet, he is good but this is risky for him and Teo will probably be able to play around with him. But it's a opportunity for him that's why it's a easy decision to fight Lopez for his belt. Just like when he had that opportunity against Loma before. Top Rank gives it to him and obviously he is not taking the big share as far as the split, but still a good opportunity and he was lucky that he is under Bob Arum. So first fight moving up in weight and then relatively unknown, fights for the belt? And I do agree, Teo is going to be too much for him.

He is still young and can still do a lot of things in the ring, not to mention continue making money. It's still easy for him to look for opponents. What do you mean he can KO Lopez? You mean Lopez can KO Ortiz? That's possible because Teofimo has strong punches. But I'm not expecting so much from Lopez anymore. That UD win over Taylor is not an indication of power. That was a close fight and Taylor wasn't even knocked down.

Yeah, but if you look at the score, it was UD win for Lopez, so meaning he almost win every round and you can say that he schooled the former unified champion at 140 lbs. And the handed the first defend of Taylor so that shows how good Lopez is, despite his showboating at times and then releasing controversial statement in the media. And what's important is that he won, he might not knock down Taylor, but it's a hard fought fight and in the end he emerges as victories. So in this fight, we might see Lopez style, maybe going into another 12 full round fight is Ortiz is tougher, or if he can take his punch then maybe he will push and want to score a knockout win.

Teofimo indeed won via a unanimous decision against Taylor, but did you take a look at the official score cards? One judge gave 117-111 for Lopez. That's a score which means Lopez dominated the fight. But the other two judges gave the same score, 115-113 for Teofimo. That means Lopez won 7 of the 12 rounds and Taylor won 5. 7 versus 5 doesn't mean the winner is schooling his opponent. Schooling is like Haney recently winning over Prograis. He won via UD with all three judges giving 120-107. That's schooling.

A unanimous decision win doesn't mean the winner is winning almost every round or schooling the opponent. Yeah, but that's still considered a dominant win because he won on the 3 judges scorecard, although both scored 115-113, that's close but we haven't heard any complaints from the side of Teo that they have been cheated or the score is not fair. You might not call it schooling, but if you read this article from below: Despite Lopez's clear dominance, the scorecards were a bit of a scare for the new champion, reading 115-113, 115-113, 117-111. https://www.cbssports.com/boxing/news/josh-taylor-vs-teofimo-lopez-jr-fight-results-highlights-the-takeover-scores-big-upset-to-earn-wbo-title/live/

The score was close but if we were able to watch the fight, we can say that Teofimo was really the one dictating the fight, so we can also call that schooling since it's expected that Josh Taylor would have a good fight, IIRC, he was even the favorite (probably slight only) but Teofimo steal that moment in the fight as right from the start, it's already evident that Teofimo was very comfortable and winning every round. I think even Josh Taylor himself knows he lose the fight, so that alone is already a proof that it he was dominated. Josh Taylor believes he simply had a “bad night” when he lost to Teofimo Lopez earlier this summer. https://www.boxingscene.com/josh-taylor-on-rebounding-from-lopez-loss-i-plenty-option-just-bad-night--177694

^^ Yes it depends on what we see, but it's obvious that Teo has dictated the fight all throughout the game, and so this could be schooling by some standards. And as you pointed out, and I remember that, Josh admitted that, maybe it was the weight as he has difficult making 140 lbs or just really a bad stylistic matchup for him.
And now Lopez is the lineal champion, and will have to face maybe a tougher opponent that we expect in Ortiz.
But this could be the same if Teo Lopez started to dominate the fight again from round 1 and never give Ortiz some room to counter. And who knows, maybe Lopez can KO Ortiz here.

This is the kind of scenario I'm expecting to see in this fight. IMO, Teo is just too much for Jamaine Ortiz although some may disgaree, but Jamaine Ortiz isn't a champion caliber fighter, so how can we expect him to give a tough fight to Teo. And who knows, maybe Lopez can KO Ortiz here.
Well, probably one of the biggest upset that will happen this year, but honestly, I'm not seeing it happening, so the chance is very slim. Maybe Teo will loss, the worst case scenario, but to get KO'd, it's too unlikely.

Even in the Bivol vs Canelo fight, it's very close in the judges scorecard, but we know that Bivol took Canelo to school and dominated that fight. And yet the judges seems to make the score close to even a conspiracy that they might want Canelo to win on that fight. Anyhow, fight is still very far and maybe fighters are not yet into serious training right now as they want to just enjoy the holiday with their families. Or just maybe hitting the gym but not putting serious work, just loosening and maybe next year is where the hard work starts.

If the fight was a close one, and although the real winner is Bivol, judges could manipulate the scorecards in favor of Canelo because he is a big name in boxing, and with his win, it will create stories that will make the boxing industry better. This conspiracy theory ain't new, because it happened from time to time although it's not prove, but we can notice if we have an investigator minds. Anyhow, fight is still very far and maybe fighters are not yet into serious training right now as they want to just enjoy the holiday with their families.

The real training starts next year, although we can't say that everyone are not so serious this holiday season as not everyone are observing or celebrating the holiday season.

How time flies, and with that, this fight is going to be this week already?
And I thought it's going to be on weekend, anyhow looking at the odds, Ortiz is a 5:1 underdog. Although he has good performance against Loma and won against Moran in his last fight, the odd makers still picks up Teo Lopez as the favorite.
Lopez by KO is good though @2.75.

^^ Good odds for a knockout as that's what I'm looking for Teo Lopez to win here maybe in the late rounds as well. Lopez is full of confidence although others might agree that some of his statement lately are very controversial even with his current promotional company, which is Top Rank as he criticized them about his fights and the purse money.
Anyhow, he is under contract and I think this might look like a tough fight for him, but I think he will dominate Ortiz here and again, maybe that odds for a knockout win is very much what I will look for as it is very appealing to me and maybe to others as well.

This just pop in my feed, the official video promo for this fight, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYmklORcW2MNothing spectacular, and the theme of the video is all about legacy. Not sure if the press conference has started it. The official Top Rank Youtube is already there but still like running for 20 minutes and nothing is to be heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JAlIU3uxRA

Nothing spectacular on that press conference though, both has so much respect with each other. If Teo will stay relax and not get clip early, he will definitely win this fight. Ortiz is much taller but I don't think it has a advantage in this fight. It's more on the boxing IQ, and as per Teo, he has mature now and so he has the experience against Ortiz. It's also interesting to see the co main event or the undercard here, KeyShawn Davis vs Pedraza. I don't know, I think Pedraza should have retired already, he has taken so much damage that I wouldn't be surprised here if Davis scored a spectacular knockout.
