Is merit necessary for my survival here

I really want to know if merit is necessary in other to secure my account, my friend who introduced this site to me said, I must have merit

If you have waited a while, you would have figured out yourself how important merit is in the forum. I have also seen that this thread has span upto 5 pages. But I still want to answer your question incase you are still reading. Merit is very important to everyone, including those that has thousands of it already. While lower rank members need merits for rank up, older members who already have thousands of merits need more for prestige. You might not have needs for merits if;

• You will not want to join any signature campaigns 
• You don't intend to become a campaign manager
• You do not want to join some contests and give aways 

If you are here only to learn about bitcoin, you are free to even read from the guest mood and everything will be fine. But if you are here to earn, just like many, you will need merits.

Please how do I get this merit and how is it important.

You get merits by creating quality posts that teache new ideas or communicate old ones in a new way. You can earn merits by answering questions in the forum. You are likely to earn more merits if you are regular in conversations.

I think merit is just a gift that users give us to give appreciation for what we do. only that. unless your goal here is to get a job, I think merit is quite influential, because there are some jobs that require a high rank, for example signature. But I think it doesn't matter, over time you will also understand and merit will follow if you have a good contribution in forum.nesehat I don't think too much about merit, but what is more important is how we can contribute to the forum by making the forum more lively, exciting, high quality, free of spam, sharing knowledge and so on

Merit is not required to actually protect it so if you want strong password with your gmail account keep these in safe place. Here merit will help rank up your account. Moreover the more merit you get, the more respected you are. However just share your skills and knowledge and help other members then you will get merit.

It's not about having lots of merits that you will be respected but the contributions you make which makes you a respectable forum member. You can even see a forum member with thousands of merits but thid forum member have negative score which you know what it means which is he/she is not to be trusted. If you remember there is a forum member who receive Bitcoin to his wallet accidentally and he returned it to the owner which already makes him a respectable forum member. There's a thread where you sign a message and that will be used to prove the ownership of the account if ever the account is hacked someone knows the password.

Instead of survival, it's more like a measurement to make sure you can keep growing in the ranks. I think your account will stay intact even if you don't get any merit. You can keep posting and hanging out with other fellows here, and don't mind about merits if you just want to merely discuss here. However, if you have other importance, for example, as a bounty hunter who wants to improve their earnings through signature campaigns, then merit is very important. There are some criteria for increasing your ranks, and one of them is to fulfill certain amounts of merit for certain ranks.

Well, with my little understand my dear, I think having merit is not a way of securing your account, just like someone else has already said here, that in order to secure your account,you are to keep your passwords saved and do not go against the forum rules and regulations and I think by so doing i think your account will be saved and secured,..

While merit help you to grow up your rank,from newbie to higher rank and that is the important of merit in this forum and it's very important as you are a member of this forum you need the merit to rank up...

You don't need merit to secure your account. Without merit, you can learn, post and partake in bounty altcoin as an hunter. There are so many accounts for on the forum existing for so many years without a merit.

Most people are just ignoring what the forum is really about, and they are focusing on other things. Merit shouldn’t be the main reason to be here, and merit is not needed to secure an account. If you are desperate and looking for merit, then you might not really be able to stay long in the forum here before you might end up going against the forum rules. The forum is basically for learning, and if you are really ready to learn, you are also going to receive merit.
 
Do you still encourage people to participate in bounty campaigns? To me, bounty campaigns are not really profitable like before, most are just time wasting because the rewards aren’t really worth it, and some are even scam projects that will never pay you. So the best thing is to rank up your account and join the signature campaign if you want to earn, or if you have any skills, then display them on the service board.

I believe what push these newbies to be eager about merit system is their greed to earn profits, or they just don’t know the whole concept of this forum, that its all about knowledge and learning acquisition first and when you have acquired that, receiving merits will eventually follow. But we all know that merits are not the only basis for survival. If you consistently follow the rules without breaking them, you will surely be safe from kicking out from this forum. While merits are also considered vital, but it does not guarantee your survival in the forum.

Secure your account how?, there's no such thing concerning merit and the safety of your account, your stay on this forum depends on you with or without merit, your friend is right and at the same time you should not take the advice so serious just like how you created this thread asking how you can get a merit. I believe you've observed the forum and you've seen post receiving merits from higher rank members, this is just simple, you post quality posts you earn merit or rather make quality comments you can still earn merit but it depends on your knowledge, how far have you gone in knowing about bitcoin if the answer is no then you should start learning about bitcoin from different post, by so doing you will get to understand and make good comments. To be sincere you need merit in terms of ranking up.

Merit isn't a necessity, whether you're merited or not, you can still go about your daily business on thr forum, different people has different reasons why they're here on the forum. For some, they're here to only grow their account, earn themselves a significant number of merits, join a signature campaign and start earning some money, not that I'm saying that it's not a good thing to grow your account, earn some good number of merits and join a campaign, but that shouldn't be your driving force.
The main aim of this forum is to educate and teach people about Bitcoin and crypto at large, as well as general knowledge too, and this should be your driving force, to acquire that knowledge, and once you're dedicated to acquiring the knowledge, the and then start making meaningful contributions to the development of the forum and its users, then getting merits shouldn't be so hard.
You're merited when someone sees something meaningful in your contribution. But merit or no merit, you can still access the forum and its resources.

What did your friend told you you needed merit for? Sometimes we easily got misinformed by the way others introduced us to some certain things, you only need merits to rank up from one rank to another which is by choice and not by force, either you earn it or not, you're not going to be denied access to your Bitcointalk account, it has nothing to even do with what you do here except that you can't put on avatar except you're a full member and you can't post images except you're a Jr member or purchase a corper membership rank, every other things remains the same with you and other members of higher ranks.

Op I fully believe you have read through this post as it's well details I don't want repeat what is already said because is not ideal in the board. Merit is necessary to rank up and if your friend said that you can make some BTC from this forum then yes merit is necessary for it to happen.

In general, you can keep posting as much as you want even if you have zero merit. But when you keep posting something that can be beneficial to someone else then it's hard to stay with zero merit as well.

You need merit to participate in bounty companies; you do not need merit to view information or participate in the forum. The main functions of the forum are already available to you during the forum registration period. But if you want to take part in the bounty, you need at least 10 merits.

Merit is not necessary to survive in this forum, what is necessary is to follow the forum rules, which has been provided on this thread, although merit is important if a forum member wants to rank up. A newbie needs to concentrate first on understanding forum rules, learn and increase their knowledge about crypto related matters, this alone might take a considerable time, unless the newbie already has some experience before joining the forum. Op first of all welcome to the forum , joining the forum is like a ground and merit is the foundation on that ground therefore merits are very important for you to grow in the group .

Merit is actually very necessary and you can also earn merit depending on the quality of your post and contributions on a discussion , so for you to survive on the forum  please go through some threads of the Old members and follow their footsteps and in that you can also earn merit through your reasonable contributions.

Their are people who are surviving in this forum base on different ways, if the surviving that the op is talking about has nothing to do with ranking up to an new rank then I don’t think merit is important for him as he don’t need to think or get worried about merit things.

One thing I see as an important tool on this forum is to learn and understand what the forum is all about then focus on that areas which you want to benefit from and you will gain that knowledge.

Merit is necessary for survival here but it's not compulsory. We don't have to be looking for merit continuously because we want to join campaigns and want to earn more. Merit is good and it will help us to have an increase in rank and grow higher in the forum.
It is good for us to understand some levels we can attained with merits. Merit wi help us to have increased level and people may find us to be a good poster if we are good posters.
