HODL!! the origin story

Hello friends I thought I should share this Bitcointalk masterpiece and historical post that gave rise to the famous word HODL that is been used through out the entire crypto space and especially the Bitcoin community.

A famous Bitcointalk member @Gamekyuubo gave rise to the now word HODL that is so famous for its use by Bitcoin enthusiast and crypto lovers in the aspect of using Bitcoin as investment means

Like me, most newbie and I can bet even some upcoming users here don't know how this famous word came to be. For me it has been something of curious thought of why this actual word is not spelled the way it's supposed to be HOLD instead it's spelled HODL and this was what led to my search and I discovered that the word itself was actually a mistake that came around and later got stuck and deemed perfect to use. I have later found some documentary on X app TWITTER UPDATE about this trend and it's even more popular as this halving is drawing near and investors are all hyped up due to the speculated bull season that comes with or after the halving.

The word formation came through an interesting way and most people here didn't actually know this so I will like for the community to educate me more and others too if any other famous Bitcoin word was formed here also and also correct and add too if there is any detail I missed out too

Also I want you to understand that the word "HODL" was actually a misspelling of HOLD by Gamekyuubo and since he was the first person to use HODL on this forum with the actual intention of HODLING, the word gradually became adopted overtime and hence it's actually uniqueness to Bitcoin although sometimes people use it when referring to other crypto currencies.

Thanks for the information but I think this here thread is meant for the community to actually drop hint or lecture on other famous events or popular words if any was formed again like this one here. And I have read your thread a really informative and educative one too.

And also if actually you took your time to read, you will see that I have already gave that insight about the word actually being a mistake or a misspelled word that later became adopted by the Bitcoin and crypto community at large.

Thanks OP for the awareness. At first when I joined the forum I saw it on a post and it felt a bit weird why it is spelt that way but not just one person has spelt it that way so I took it as the terminology used in spelling instead of the normal alphabetical spelling.

HODL has significantly played a huge aspect in the life of investors and always advised to Buy during wholesomely during the DIP or by DCA and HODL till hitting a new All Time High (ATH)

When GameKyuubi wrote it, he's drunked. And in some other forums when I've accidentally saw it, people even made some meaning about it. They said, hold on for dear life. It's funny but it makes sense that this legend have even made people its own meanign which is just plainly a misspelled word for simply hold or holding.

This happens with everyone when they join the forum and see people saying things like "Hodl", "Hodl till bull run", initially it felt like there is some other meaning since nobody is aware about this funny incident which led to people using this misspelt word instead of the correct word because those who are in this forum like me before the invention of this word were bit puzzled and people were making fun of the spelling mistake as you can see from the original thread. But regardless however we write it either as hold or hold but it play the most pivotal role in the world of cryptocurrency.

Thanks for this clarification because when I joined the forum and began to see members using the word hodle instead of hold in their sentences, I know that it's hold that is supposed to be there, eventually I accepted hodle as the forum slang. I'm glad that I atleast now know the origine of this one that it came about as a result of a misspelling and the forum adopted it, beautiful.There are so many terminologies in the crypto space, infact I used to write them down and memorize them, so I'll know what they mean when I'm reading through threads.

I remembered this when I was a newbie. I really thought its another term here since its quite confusing. But I know its meaning as hold but wondering why it is spelled like that. Then as time pass by Ive already discovered it and its really a funny thing that most users able to imitate the same misspelled word that later on began to be used by the general crypto users. Now the word HODL is very popular among bitcoin lovers. Maybe because bitcoin is always synonymous with long-term investment which must be strong enough to hold the bitcoin well (HODL). So until now the word HODL is increasingly popular and is used by most bitcoin investors. And at first I didn't think that the word HODL was born from this forum. But it turns out that the word HODL originally came from this forum.

And people should probably stop typing or writing hodl in upper case or in caps lock form. It would appear as if hodl is an acronym. No, it is not. It is simply a misspelled hold. Each letter doesn't actually have a word to represent.

CZ as well as many crypto article writers probably don't know the original story of how the word hodl became a widely accepted word in the Bitcoin community. Or perhaps some of them are just playing with it.

But to those who know the story know that hodl is the right way of writing it and not HODL.

However, my observation in what happened then, in 2020 and now is that there seems to be much excitement and noise from crypto loving people during halving years. I guess it's so as there's often an expectation that portfolios which have gone near comatose would be revived and new investments (both in Bitcoin and alts) get nice ROIs.

Wherever it was mentioned or whoever mentiom it doesn't really matter but what matter is how we make hood use of the word. Hodl has been famous because of the good use of it. I believe the founders of the world hold must have hols untk whatever that is important and it made them change their mindset or way of thinking.

Now that people have discovered it usage, let it be also useful to us. by holding Bitcoin for long to achieve a greater results in the future. The word is easy to say than done. But doing it is the best part of it.

Now I think you are starting to get me confused because the original thread itself on the forum here shows 18 December 2013 and you are saying the word was coined or should I say misspelled a few years after the topic? Or you actually made a mistake because I'd like to think that any advice or information coming from you would be a good sourced information so I would like for you to reference me the link that confirms what you said or actually correct the date on your write up so you won't get any newbie confused upon reading it.
