Since you have been out of the forum for a little time you need to read through this thread by theymos 2FA added.

If your were active some time ago will notice that a two factor authentication was being requested in the forum to increase the users account in the forum and finally it was granted by theymos through the help of power glove.

Now head forward to read more about it in the link above.

OTP is added recently, 7 days ago.

2FA added announcement.

If you don't use OTP, you can have other ways to secure your account and for your account recovery later too.

Use a strong password.
Sign a Bitcoin message from your Bitcoin private key.
Sign a PGP message.

Account recoveries are moving again

If you have not previously activated the two-factor authentication feature, you can log in by leaving the OTP (One-Time Password) column blank.

The OTP code is not sent via email, but you get it via the Authenticator application.

You can see the guide I made previously regarding using the 2FA feature on Bitcointalk below:
How to use the 2FA feature on Bitcointalk.

The OTP system has been introduced for quite some days. Earlier there was no system of OTP system.  OTP system is used for more security of account. But if you don't want to enable OTP then leave the box blank and login then no OTP will be enabled in your account. And if you want to start then many here have given everything link to start system, you can enter there and check everything to start OTP.

I noticed the otp box on sign in. My initial thought was this is some kind of April Fool prank. I remembered the puzzle thing. I left it blank and noticed that I could still sign it.

Generally OTP enhances security but I don't think there are any reported cases of account hacks on the forum which I have come across. It is not of so much concern to me now. But I have bookmarked this thread for the future.
