A very odd name for topic , but I was quite confuse on how to construct it and hope it's suit the particular reason for this thread.

Hi tech guru's, am well aware that Bitcointalk is power house for quality and brilliant mind when it comes to technology and so many other geek stuffs and one user I have found peculiar is @o_e_l_e_o because of his diversity in his line of field. Well I don't know how true is this but I think saw in post conversation that he actually admitted he is actually a doctor and not a programmer and believe me with all what I have seen him write in wallet software board, I will be definitely convinced that the man is a computer programmer or have many degree in such area's, the reason for me stating this is because am also a medical laboratory scientist student in the university currently on my last year but I would also love to diversify my self in terms of different knowledge but the major things is that I have tried reading and watching article about coding and so many tech development stuffs but I just get really confused maybe because it's not my field so am quite curious to know how he and maybe other tech guru's that actually specialize in the medical field do it? I would appreciate if you can share an insight because over here in the third world country, we are now open to the many opportunities that the digital world brings and also the profound interest I have developed for software technology.

I figure you're just wondering this in a broad way, not about any one person on this forum specifically. 

People tend to have all kinds of interests going on and  just 'cause someone's real professional in one area don't mean they can't kick butt in something totally different too.  Take me, for instance.  What I get paid to do month-to-month has almost nothing to do with my college degree.  Picked most of it up on my own years later.  And when I've got free time, I'm off doing something else entirely. 

We've all got layers you know? The career is one aspect, but people are complex.  We've all got multiple talents and passions happening beneath the surface.  So I'd say even if this forum looks narrowly focused, the members themselves probably have rich inner worlds with diverse dreams and skills.
Don't assume the day job is all there is to a person!

I indeed have no formal education or training in a cryptography, programming, tech, math, or any remotely related fields, and I would say my coding skills are distinctly average.

I would also love to diversify my self in terms of different knowledge but the major things is that I have tried reading and watching article about coding

I'm afraid I don't have any big secret to reveal. All I have ever done to learn about technology is read, tinker, and experiment. I tend not to watch videos for education on any topic because I don't learn that way, but you might be different.

The most important thing is that you are willing to learn but you don't need to rush it that way because o_e_l_e_o you mentioned didn't just start it a day before he became this broad, just as he has said it's just a self interest that led him to this way you think he is an expert and of curse to our level of understanding he is an expert and, no doubt if you must follow him then you must develop the mindset to read and watch some helpful materials to enable enhance your skills towards the areas of your concern.

The goal is look out for the areas you develop more interest and make your research towards it, like you take a look in this forum you would find most people being active in that section because they are more knowledgeable in that area not because they had any degree in that course of study but it's a passion they developed and nothing much.. That is why i so much love his answer to you, it was very plan and concise.

I think OP has got what he wanted to hear, in fact o_e_l_e_o came on this thread and shared with OP and all of us that he has no secret to have all those skills. He's in fact a great doctor who gives proper time to reading and he's good thinker, after reading those things he think about what he has read. Finally, he experiments with the things and sort those out. I believe all of us have the potential to do something similar but the most important thing that anyone needs is self-discipline because without it we can't really do all those things.

Learning of things is not hard these days if you can give some time to proper reading. Once you read a text or a book's chapter then try to understanding of those things that you have read and then think about the things that you read and finally  apply the knowledge that you have learnt by experimenting. Experiment is the most important thing without it the theoretical knowledge is not so useful.

I'm Linux user myself and I can say that someone who really wants to understand technology better should at least try Linux, and I believe most of the users with proper knowledge tend to move towards Linux and open-source software. We also have something called GitHub these days where you can access many open-source projects and their source codes, and then you can experiment with those codes.

In fact these days knowledge is available everywhere around the internet, you can basically begin learning by reading some books or e-books and then you can move toward video tutorials as they can provide real-time insight of the things. Once you're done with all of those and you still aren't able to do something then you may join various forums and sites like Reddit where you can ask others to get some help. Just be a self-disciplined person and an active learner then see that how good you will progress overtime.

Our CEO is in real estate, and he knows a lot about programming and civil engineering, even though he is a graduate of medical laboratories, and many people changed their specialization after their bachelor’s degree from engineering to marketing, law, or even medicine. Therefore, learning is not related to the university degree, although I believe that the information provided by @o_e_l_e_o goes far beyond The average knowledge that any average joe has about Bitcoin but always learn to research everything and check it.

This goes to show that a lot of people can really learn something and apply it to certain fields if they are eager to learn. I know a lot of people who have been in an industry and their degrees are way off from where they are now. It is just the part where learning is important and it doesn't matter much unless the job is critical and needs specialties. But if you are just starting out, you can definitely take it slow as long as you learn a lot about that specific industry.

It is fine that people should inspire us, but we might get it wrong if we want to follow them sheepishly in order to be like them. In the case of o_e_l_e_o, what he is leveraging on is consistency and passion. When I was a newbie, I frequented the technical board to know the basics of bitcoin. As at then, o_e_l_e_o and LoyceV and few others like DANNYHAMILTON had all the answers to my questions. In less than 6 months, I will be 3 years in the forum, yet these persons are still helping people learn bitcoin and proffering solutions to their problems. I am also convinced that they have done this years before my arrival in this forum. This is passion and consistency.

Op, you might not be like o_e_l_e_o but you can discover something unique that you can excel in and also help the community in your own way. Everyone is unique and resourceful, the only problem is many have not discover their core strength and essence.

This just proves that if folks wanna learn stuff and use it in their work, they totally can.  I know a bunch of peeps who got jobs way different than what they studied.  The big thing is being eager to pick up new skills.

It's because I live in a village and I grew up watching how farmers do these things and my father was a farmer himself. I used to help him with his work. But, being an expert in coding and understanding cryptography and how it works isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Leo is exceptional in this case. If I remember correctly, he was the person who helped me when I was trying to understand how coinb.in works and how the timelock system works. There were a few more people, but he was always on those boards and helping others.

@OP, I was like you last year, but I started to *master Bitcoin and became one of the most prominent experts in cryptography, but unfortunately they promoted whatnot against me and made me  quite being an expert. Now I act as a part time job clown, because cryptography doesn't pay that much, now I wear a clown costume to make people laugh in hopes of them tipping me some sats when BHC implements his tip system via LN in the near future. Lol

Oh and BTW, I'm %97 certain o_l_esomething is satoshi himself, if you have noticed, satoshi is the only person obsessed with being the best and on top, being the biggest Bitcoin whale, being the best inventor of 21st century, being a privacy (freak, I don't know if this is a good word or bad in this context, lol), and above all being the biggest merit farmer ever seen in history. 😅😂

That I can relate to very well, I mean there are so many person that actually end up doing what is not their profession and many of them actually end up being very good at it, some persons learn things very fast and can actually be called jack of many trade.

In life, we sometimes don't have to depend on what we specializes on before we can be productive in life, we have some people whom by the virtue of what they study isn't what they are doing, we must realized that we have to identify what we have passion for and also do best, it's not by qualifications but by what we can deliver, there are a lot of members as well who focus on what they finds pleasure and passion for than what they have study or specialized on, most of us hear have taken it a choice to choose to develop knowledge about Bitcoin than other things we have studied because we are more likely with doing better here than other places, it's actually a thing each person can build themselves on and develop interest on what they like doing best
