Hey guys! How’s it going? Hope your all having a good day. I’m new here and new to bitcoin mining.

Bit of a back story I heard about bitcoin in 2012, but rode it off as a currency to buy drugs on silk rouge, it pains me to think I could have bought it at a few dollars back then. And I wish I had taken the time to understand it better, anyway fast forward to 2020 and I see bitcoin at 90k aud (I’m Australian) and I knew I had to learn more about it.

Been investing in various crypto currencies ever since.

Now I’ve come to the conclusion that I’d more then likely have a better chance at getting some bitcoin by just running a miner rather then buying it?

So I bought my first miner (lucky miner v6)

As my hash rate will be so small (about 500gh) I’m thinking I won’t have a chance competing with everyone on ck pool.

Just wondering how would I go about hosting my own solo mining pool? Is there any tutorials?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can offer some more information on the subject!

1st you have to understand how solo / lottery mining works. At 500 gh/s the odds of you finding a block is 1 in 900,000,000 or to put it more bluntly once in 17,500 years.
That's it over and out. https://solochance.com/

If you want to run your own pool there is a lot of software out there that will let you do it. But you have to have a knowledge of linux and a few other things.

So your plan is to solo mine with your miner that can only mine 500gh/s?
Since it's above 1gh/s as Ckpool requirements you can mine there they have a solo mining pool you don't need to competing with everyone. Here's the link to their solo pool https://solo.ckpool.org/

But if you still insist on hosting your own pool you will need a VPS server and an Ubuntu I suggest to check this Yiimp guide below as alternative suggest from the above post.

For the life of me why do we get this inquiry over and over and over .

Has to be the 100th thread with this question.

What did you pay for the miner?

It is a waste of time.

It is too small.

This is hard to explain other than come to-the USA near my local beach and find the correct grain of sand.

That will give you a block. My local beach is around 2 clicks long and 100 meters long and likely 20 meters deep.

So 2000 by 100 by 20 meters of sand.

You get to pick one grain of sand from that.

Never mind the time and expense to come to Belmar Beach, New Jersey

You want to solo mine on your own pool fine its okay.

You need a good server.
You need a good internet service.
You are trying to use a weak miner

I have shown how to build low power s9 units.

they do 4th which allows you to mine at ckpool solo.

Um, you are NOT competing against everyone on said pool - you and all other miners everywhere are competing against ALL miners running everywhere on the planet. Solo is solo and it is far better to do it on a pool that has all of the back end hardware and fast internet connections in place. One such as Kano's or -ck's solo pools.

When a block is found it is found by just 1 ASIC chip. It makes no difference if that chip is the only 1 on a USB stick or if it was one of the 100's that are in each of the top-end miners and it makes no difference if it is a solo miner or one that is part of a pool.

Well that changed my thought process on solo pool mining,
Thanks for the clarification guys really appreciate it.

So i guess I'll just be sticking to ck pool then and look at buying some more miners.

Hi locko90,

If you have only 500GHs than it is alone not really possible to mine a block.
Maybe you can join our small project, please have a look.

Greetings from a lot of other miner,

Get an old PC, put a 2TB SSD in it, and maybe some RAM. Look for some tutorials on installing Umbrel. Once you have Umbrel up and running, and the initial blockchain download has finished, install Public-pool from the Umbrel App Store. It’s pretty chill! You can point whatever miners you want at it.
