Omor this matter tire me oo, the actual truth na just say, the gas flaring from all these refineries them cause more damage pass Bitcoin mining. Actually some Bitcoin mining farm dey even use hydro power plant, wey no dey even cause any green house effect. And some mining farms sef na solar power them dey use. But all these refineries they must gas flare to prevent explosion because them they try to depressurize the crude extraction process. When I saw the topic, I wonder on the correlation between Bitcoin mining and gas flaring. Bitcoin mining I think is a soft ware thing unlike gas flaring that deals with physical activities in the environment. Bitcoin is not gold or other natural resources deposited in the environment that can cause environmental hazard when harvested.

There are things to discuss about this together, if you're conversant with how the bitcoin mining has been attacked severally on different occasions by the governments that it's environmentally unfriendly and cause harm to the society and lives, but they never take a look at the exploration of the natural resources they control their mining and how dreadful they are causing dangers to the environment through various emissions, if you can compare a bitcoin mining rig to that of the natural resources mining, then maybe you can understand which is indeed harmful to the environment and not.[/list]

You are quite right to some extent, you see the only thing that is bringing our beloved country backwards is not even about setting out laws to regulate activities that can pose threat to people and the environment but lack of it's enforcement because putting a law is very simple but maintaining it that's where the problem is. You see some gas flaring industries increasing the velocity of the flame without thinking about the environmental hazards it is creating to people residing within such area. We all know that both mining and gas flaring also aid human in so many ways but we shouldn't also neglect the dangers it poses on the environment and also sort out ways to reduce it's intensity.

Yeah you might not understand  or seem to see any relationship between  both at first but if you try to explore more  you will understand better,  Bitcoin  has been faced by some challenges  over the years especially in the aspect of minning,  because  the hash rate of Bitcoin  continues  to increase over the years, this gave rise to more advance technology  to solve complex solutions  in minning BTC.
However, due to how strong they are they required  much more energy in term of power supply and advance body parts which lead  increased in the usage of more Energy  and release  of Carbon to the atmosphere .
Thus some countries banned minning  so as to reduce the carbon emissions , but here we are making  comparison  on how  much emission does minning  generate  compared to Gas flare(as stated by OP).
We believe  that the depletion  of the ozone layers which has been  leading to change in climate shouldn't  be blamed on BTC minning  ad our daily  activities  even emit carbon, a lot of country are still embracing  GREY Economy, Automobile. Gas flaring helps these refineries ensure that some potentially extra poisonous waste gases that are given off during the refinery process are not just released into atmosphere. There are equipment that they can invest into building to capture these gases and convert them for other uses, but that will mean extra cost, so flaring is the cheaper alternative. Gas Flaring of course still has its hazards on our health, especially on the health of individuals who stay close to it, but gas flaring is not done in every country. Some countries have found better ways to reuse these gasses instead of burning them off through flaring

The thing here is that our country takes natural gas and hydrocarbons very very seriously, it is our bread and wine. It is the sole earner for our economy; our source of foreign exchange. Bitcoin on the other hand is still alien to the Nigerian government. And is not as essential to our everyday lives as gas. Plus these politicians make more money from crude daily than they'll ever make from bitcoin mining because they're direct beneficiaries from gas flaring.

Gas flaring dey also cause environmental pollution and hazard. And e dey also weeken the ozone layer. No be say as E dey burn night and day, say company no dey pay allowance for that stuff, but na some greedy persons dey chop the money and allowing the masses to suffer. I could remember one community for my local government. Them discover gas and oyibo man pay money for environmental pollution and evaquation to take place, but the elders share the money amongst themselves ,Took photos of another project and send to the company, and the company think say the money wey dem send say them use am wisely, without knowing say them don shear am. And people go dey blame company incopitency meanwhile them do settle.

Sometimes I wonder why this country keeps borrow stupid ideals from the US and other countries, Nigeria is so blessed that we can even mine more Bitcoin if we have the necessary tools for it but the regulation on Bitcoin mining as a result of environmental management is absolutely to the interest of external forces because I don't see mining to be as harmful as the oil spillage and gas environmental pollution happening both in the rural and urban areas of the country.

The truth is most of the regulations are forced down to us from the so called bigger countries, I'm quite exposed to politics and I understand what is really happening that's why I don't blame anybody for whatsoever is happening because one man cannot right the wrong of everyone. it's has been a threat for our presidents or leaders not to go against there rules because of some debts and weapon business happening between our country and other so called bigger counting.

Back to mining we can still do our things here just the the cost of mining is very high for us over here if not me and you know that the rules do not apply here as a result of maybe corruption but it's an advantage. even when Bitcoin transactions where banned we still kept doing it so we can still mine Bitcoin and nothing will happen.
