I've got a sizeable amount of USDT which i'm trying to withdraw from kucoin. They won't let me withdraw.

I contacted them when I could not withdraw. They initially asked me to pay 65k tax which I did. Then they asked me to put 20k into my kucoin account which I did. Then they said they want me to show 130k in a trust wallet after which I can withdraw.

Is this correct? Why? What do?

The message reads:
"Prepare the specified verification funds in TRUST WALLET, take a screenshot when ready and contact us, please make sure to confirm the funds as ERC20 USDT. we will confirm the balance on the blockchain. Once confirmed, the risk control will be lifted within 30 minutes

Designated funds. 130,000 USDT"

"Please note: There is no need to deposit funds to KuCoin during the whole process, please complete the verification within 20 days. Thank you."

Thanks all!

Scam scam scam.

You definitely have the wrong KuCoin/Trustwallet and don’t bother to actually send them any more information nothing will be returned to you. You can withdraw any amount from your kucoin exchange if you have completed their verification except you it exceeds daily limit. Also I have never heard them charge Tax; that’s on the government mate. You’re dealing with scammers

That is not Kucoin, it is a scam. Let us know the link.

This is the correct Kucoin website: https://www.kucoin.com/

Any money that you pay into the address they gave you or that you see on the exchange can not be gotten back. Do not send them money because the more you send the more you are have been scammed.

I am almost certain you are on a clone scam website.

Can you backtrack a bit and tell us how you got this amount on Kucoin in the first place? Did you store it there a while ago or did you get an email or something about mysteriously having a balance on the exchange and requesting you to make the payments?

are you sure you're using the right/official Kucoin exchange?
can you post here your messages (screenshot) and url that you have used?
It's something shady if someone ask to deposit money...if you want withdraw it... it's a kind of nonsense and a big "red sign" ...
also showing an amount in a wallet... there is no reason for doing that ...

It will probably start from telling him to deposit an amount to claim huge amount. He may deposit and want to withdraw all the money but they will tell him to pay tax first so that they can scam him more.

are you sure you're using the right/official Kucoin exchange?
can you post here your messages (screenshot) and url that you have used?
He is using the wrong Kucoin. It is easy to know that.

No need to post any message because it is the wrong Kucoin. What we need is just the link and you will see how fake the site is. But also the link is not needed because it is a fake Kucoin, but just as prove.

exactly because have made used of kucoin before they are really strict when it's comes to securities and kyc. I haven't experienced such before kucoin telling you to deposit more and more in other to have possession of your coin again. Follow what they have just told and stop sending more so that you won't end up losing more than you have already lose. I remembered back then that ones you haven't done your kyc in kucoin you be restricted doing alot of things like even trading.

Please don't tell me that you actually sent them $65k for that bullshit reason?

Then they asked me to put 20k into my kucoin account which I did.
Oh ffs. Can you please share "Kucoin" webiste link?

Is this correct? Why? What do?
Nope, that doesn't sound normal at all and it looks like you have been a victom of a fake Kucoin website. Regarding what you can do now, the first thing is to stop sending them more money.

Reading this, you've already got scammed.

Known exchanges like Kucoin won't ask you for this type of taxing. If you've got money there, they'll allow you to withdraw it unless the only condition that you might encounter is about verifying your account and identity through KYC and not with asking you to pay some sort of tax.

Thank you."

Thanks all!
My heart aches while reading this if you really paid 65k for what they've asked you.

He has not paid them. That is why he is asking the question but he was thinking that it was Kucoin exchange, nit knowing it was a fake exchange that cloned Kucoin website.

Oh ffs. Can you please share "Kucoin" webiste link?
It is a fake website though, but sharing will let us know about it so that we can report the website to be taking down.

@gerts, let us know the website.

Appreciate the swift responses.

I'm certain that this is a scam. The app that i've downloaded is through a scam website.

They're asking me to show that I have 130k in usdt in a trust wallet. I have the funds, and I have nothing further to lose by showing them a screenshot. How safe is a trust wallet?

screenshot. How safe is a trust wallet?
A close source wallet that is not advisable to be used. Nothing that cannot be cloned. For high amount of money like that, get yourself a hardware wallet like Trezor.

If you are certain that its a scam, why would you even bother sending 130k in Trust wallet just so you can show them? What can you gain by that?

Regarding the Trust wallet, its generally a solid option if you need mullticurrency wallet (just keep in mind that its a closed source) but I wouldn't trust it with more than a few hundreds of dollars let alone $130k. With that being said, the only wallet I would trrust that amount is a hardware wallet (or proerly created paper wallet) and nothing else.

I'm interested in seeing how it plays out once I show them I have the funds in my trust wallet.

I understand. They want to see it in a trust wallet, so putting it anywhere else isn't an option. What do you mean by 'closed source'?

Did you really deposit 85,000 USDT?
How could you trust them with that big money?

To clarify, I just want to deposit 130k usdt into it and send them a screenshot, I will then remove it immediately.
I guess you are using a fake version of trustwallet and you will lose your fund once you make a deposit.
I can't imagine you have already deposited 85,000 USDT and you still believe them.

Moving $130k from the (I guess) cold storage just to see how it plays out. Smh...

By the way, are you absolutely sure that you actually have the real Trust wallet and not another fake one, like it happened with Kucoin. Did they maybe send you a link to downbload that Trust wallet, or you saw it on their fake website?

What do you mean by 'closed source'?
It means that no one outside the company that made that wallet has access to the code, meaning community can't check it to see whether there is something dodgy going on, like for example backdoor that enables the company to take your money.

Another piece of advice: you should always download something as sensible as crypto wallet directly from the creator's website and not via Google Playstore as they are notorious for having fake wallets.
