Either it is a wrong seed phrase or you added extra word (passphrase) with the seed phrase is the reason. If you added extra word (passphrase), you will need to recover the wallet with the seed phrase and the passphrase to generate the right keys and addresses.

Another possible reason is if your Internet network is not good and the wallet is not synchronizing with the blockchain. Make sure the wallet synchronize with the blockchain.

Hope you downloaded the wallet from the official website, https://electrum.org/ and not a fake one.

checked seed phrase in new wallet and everything is identical from number of words, sequence and spelling. I used the original password as well - is that appropriate or should I have created a new password?

What that matters while recovering a wallet is the seed phrase (+ passphrase if you added it while generating the wallet keys and addresses), password is not important during recovery and has nothing to do with the wallet recovery. While recovering the wallet, you can use a different password and that does not mean.

Are you sure your 'password' is not your wallet's 25th word or "passphrase" as Charles-Tim mentioned? Probably try it out with that setup.

A 'real' password(not to be mixed with passphrase) on Electrum is only there to lock the app on your device so other people can't access it; it doesn't necessarily relate to your wallet backup.

Use a blockchain explorer to check your wallet address. You will see if your bitcoins were moved from your wallet. It’s simple. All you have to do is copy your address and paste in https://blockchair.com/

If Electrum has synchronized with the blockchain, the circle icon would be in green (🟢). If connected to Tor, it would be in blue (🔵). If the wallet is not synchronized, it would be in red (🔴). On Electrum, he can see all his transactions in the transaction history after it has synchronized.

I use wallet explorer for addresses that do not belong to my wallet. If belonging to my wallet, wallet explorer is not useful for me to check sent, received and unconfirmed transactions.

Creating an Electrum wallet step by step. At step 4, you see in the image, there is an Option. If you click on Option, you will see.
Code:
Extend this seed with custom words

Then you will see
Code:
Seed extension

You may extend your seed with custom words.
Your seed extension must be saved together with your seed.

If you recover your wallet with seed phrase + password but can not see any BTC in the wallet. You have to check Transaction history. If there is no In, Out transaction, you recovered a wrong wallet and maybe you added custom words when you created that wallet. Now, to recover that wallet correctly, you will need those custom words. If you don't have custom words, you lose your bitcoin.

Absolutely sound idiotic, if you have funded your address before and used electrum, then you should know where you got your address(es) in electrum.
Is your wallet funded and what wallet was it (before this one)? And what does "wallet shows empty" mean, you don't see your balances or addresses?

This going to sound idiotic to you but how do I get this address?
First you need to check whether there are transactions in your wallet, whether coins were sent or not, Look at bottom below. Is it green? Go to the history and check the latest transactions. If the wallet is empty (does not contain any previous transactions), when was this wallet created?
If it was in the past (several years ago), it is most likely Legacy. Create a new wallet and check the “Legacy” option.

The password does not mean anything as long as you have the correct seed, it is an encryption of the old wallet file.

You can see all the generated addresses in your Electrum wallet by clicking the address tab.

Also, you can see the current balance and number of TXs for the respective address in the same tab itself, and if everything you see is there is zero then you never funded your Electrum wallet or you imported the wrong wallet which could be due to the missing passphrase that is something termed as 'password" in some wallets but not in electrum.

This going to sound idiotic to you but how do I get this address?
You seem to be fixated in getting your address and didn't answer the other replies.

Anyways, you can get it by enabling Addresses tab in "View->Show Addresses" first, and go to the Address tab shown above.
Your addresses that you would get in 'Receive' tab would be the ones tagged with "Receiving".

BTW, is the original wallet contained 'confirmed' transaction or just 'unconfirmed' ones?
Because if those are unconfirmed, the auto-selected server may not have those transactions in its mempool for some reason.
If so, blockexplorers may show those unconfirmed transactions or at least a hint on what happened (e.g.: replaced).

On-chain or Lightning bitcoins?
Because, lightning channels cannot be restored from old seed phrase,
later seed phrase on the other hand can recover static channels but you have to request the other party to force-close the channel to recover the bitcoin in it.

If it was in the past (several years ago), it is most likely Legacy. Create a new wallet and check the “Legacy” option.
The script type option is only available when restoring a BIP39 seed.
Otherwise, Electrum will automatically detect the script type from the seed phrase itself.

OP, are you sure that the previous electrum wallet that you have imported the seed to this new one hasn't been compromised. This is why you need to check the transaction history of the wallet to see if funds has been transferred from the wallet that was not you. I don't see any reason why you wouldn't see the funds there if it is there.

As mentioned by other posters above, check the addresses and see which of them the funds is in. I don't know why you are talking about password, as you don't need any password from the old wallet because you need a new password for the newly created one. I don't think that OP even used passphrase from his response.

what you see on blockchain if you add this address?

I'm a Newbie so not sure how I would do this.

How about we take a different route?

What happened to your old Electrum wallet instance?  If you still have access to the old wallet file, you can simply transfer it to your new computer and try to open it with Electrum (which shouldn't be a problem since your wallet file is encrypted if you used a wallet password).

Although, I strongly recommend that you learn the process of recovering your wallet from a backup seed phrase before continuing to use any wallet to store your digital assets. Your backup seed phrase is pretty useless if you lack the knowledge to use it effectively.

Had to install the Electrum Wallet on a new computer. Used the original seed and password but wallet show empty. Double checked see but everything looks OK. Any advise?

I think there is a miss up somewhere , either you don't copy properly or Password error. It's not a hard thing to install or recover if all your details are correct without mistake. Try blockchain explorer to see if the problem can be solved, it have help many people of similar challenge.

First of all like others said you need to synchronize the Electrum to the blockchain then you may check the addresses one by one to see which one of those addresses contain Bitcoin. I also believe that you may need to look at the transaction history to see that which wallet addresses have received the transactions.

I would recommend you to reinstall your operating system once again and install a new copy of Electrum. Make sure to download it from it's original website. Once Electrum is installed try to synchronize it to the blockchain and then enter your seed phrase and see what happens. If you have created the wallet and received funds in it then you should better know how to use Electrum.

You should make sure that the seed phrase that you're using is the one that contains wallet addresses that have Bitcoin otherwise you won't see any Bitcoin. As long as I know, you shouldn't have any problem if you have access to the seed phrase and password phrase.

If you can see the addresses then you can check which one has Bitcoin if none of those have any Bitcoin then you should try to check the transaction history to confirm that you have received any Bitcoin in those addresses or not. If you haven't received any Bitcoin in those addresses then most probably you have used a wrong seed phrase.

It would be clearer if OP described all the steps to creating a wallet. There is a possibility, since he says that he is a newbie, that he created a new wallet, and naturally it will be empty.
Did you create a new seed phrase, the OP, or did you add your old one from your old wallet?
