Falling into the hands of scammers trick online looks like something that isn't going to stop anytime sooner, because we always have new members joining this crypto space every week, and no matter how smart they are, crypto space is something very different. Even after learning all the rights from wrongs I still fall into few scams myself.
Metamask is the most convenient crypto wallet for many crypto investors because of the easy support for multi chain and the ability to even add a chain, I have a friend who is a metamask user and he signed a fake transaction through twitter, mind you many people don't take signing very serious, some don't even have patience to check what they are signing.
Many projects on Twitter have been copied with different twitter handle but same name, and the next thing you will hear is they are doing giveaway, this was how a friend fell victim, the Fake twitter handle will look the same with the original and the only difference is the handle if the original is @LineaPJ the fake could be @LineaBJ and since most newbies are always in rush they can easily fall.
As old as this trick is today, many people are still falling victim, but I found something that can help, I am not shilling this idea I just find it to be very helpful, especially for the lazy asses who aren't always cautious online.
It's called Wallet Guard, this extension is opensource, which is a good thing for me, and it's job is to protect metamask users from scams and wallet drivers before they interact with your wallet, the good thing is it's completely free and crypto companies are backing them, and this includes Metamask devs too.
This Wallet Guard stops phisihing attempts before you even connect your wallet.
It protects against the following
1. Phishing attempts. 2. Wallet draining. 3. Fake websites.
Their original/official website is walletguard.app
Some extra advice.
1. If you want to buy something in crypto space, avoid Twitter at all cost, do not go through Twitter when you are looking into new projects you want to take some risks on.
2. The careful about what you are signing, be on alert and focus on what a signature is telling you when you are trying to buy something with your metamask.
Coin gecko and coinmarkecap is the best places I recommend if you are looking for the right links and official source of any crypto project.

Yes, I have also noticed some of those shady things that are happening on Twitter now x, and unfortunately many newbies become victim of such scams. They are mostly like Phishing pages but instead of pages they're running fake twitter phishing accounts. It's an unfortunate reality that most crypto users search for new projects via Twitter and that's the biggest mistake they are doing.
The knowledge and awareness are very important for such people because without that they'll always get scammed by those scammers. The users with less technical knowledge often become victims of such traps and we should try our best to educate them about such scams so they won't fall victim of such scams in future. Twitter doesn't really care about those accounts and that's why the scammers find it as their scamming haven.

this extension can be trusted because behind it there is metamask and several other trusted companies so this is an extension that is safe to use on users' browsers.

To be honest, I am just hearing about this wallet guide for the first time, but according to the statements you made about it, it will be protective. Is it only for PCs? if yes, how about people connecting their MetaMask wallets on mobile phone? can we also use it? Some extra advice.
1. If you want to buy something in crypto space, avoid Twitter at all cost, do not go through Twitter when you are looking into new projects you want to take some risks on.
2. The careful about what you are signing, be on alert and focus on what a signature is telling you when you are trying to buy something with your metamask.

The best thing is to avoid shitcoins, and if you want to invest in them you need to be very careful because Twitter handle will be one of the main things to consider even though it has also been used by scammers to scam people that are new to cryptocurrency. Coingeko is a good app and a tool to do good research about any project you are willing to invest in because Coingeko give almost all the necessary information needed about project, their team, exchanges and the project origin.

It possibly comes from policies of X under Elon Musk which give more friendly conditions for scammers. I see a new trend of scam. When I follow an X account, some minutes or hours later, there will be one or two X accounts which are impersonating accounts, will follow my account. Like you share, those accounts have same display names like the account I followed. I guess they try to do this to make me confused between official account and impersonating ones, as first step to find victims for their scam later.

Why not on Twitter? I think its pretty decent to look for Twitter as I have found good projects on it. If not there where else youll find good one then? I am scouting for tokenless project for sale or even airdrop, I will definitely not find a good one on altcoin discussion or bounty section which i find unfortunate since before all good projects are started there. Metamask is at your disposal anything you do depends on your action so if you got scam means you didnt take responsibility of the transaction or signed click you did.

Even after learning all the rights from wrongs I still fall into few scams myself.
One thing about scammers is that they don't rest, they are always innovative, looking for some more smarts ways to defraud. They are always some steps ahead of us because we are not working hard to scam people and we are also not working hard to protect our coins. This industry is characterized with scam and newbies are not alway cautious of this until they become victims and hence learn from experience. Some extra advice.
1. If you want to buy something in crypto space, avoid Twitter at all cost, do not go through Twitter when you are looking into new projects you want to take some risks on.
This advice is something that cannot be adhered to. Twitter is making waves in the cryptocurrency industry and it is the easiest place to attract newbies. Since we cannot do with it, we should learn to manage it effectively.

I get what you're saying about Twitter. There's definitely a lot of shady stuff that goes on there related to crypto scams and bogus information. But it's not only Twitter - scammers are lurking around other social sites too, trying to take advantage of folks. You gotta watch your back these days when it comes to anything involving money on the internet and the scammers are always coming up with new tricks to catch people slipping. Like trying to get them to approve some sketchy transaction that ends up cleaning out their wallet. So you really gotta make sure you know what youre signing off on before you hit that button. I've seen too many sad stories of good people getting hustled because they didn't understand what they were getting themselves into. It's a jungle out there, thats for sure! Coin gecko and coinmarkecap is the best places I recommend if you are looking for the right links and official source of any crypto project.
I would say never trust a single source when it comes to critical information, and always try to verify. Even some of the most credible sources can sometimes be compromised.

It protects against the following
1. Phishing attempts. 2. Wallet draining. 3. Fake websites. There are quite a number of security measures we could take and use for our crypto wallet security network, then after putting some of these in place, we have to be as well being careful of not inviting the attack by ourselves again without having an idea of how it's getting started. 1. If you want to buy something in crypto space, avoid Twitter at all cost, do not go through Twitter when you are looking into new projects you want to take some risks on. we can use twitter but that doesn't mean we should work by everything they say to us, most people use them while learning but when making decisions on what to do, they don't consider them. 2. The careful about what you are signing, be on alert and focus on what a signature is telling you when you are trying to buy something with your metamask. Alot of scams had been made already with the users of metamask, but we can always do what will make us free from having the same experience as others do when we understand the security measures needed from us to do over the use of our wallet. Coin gecko and coinmarkecap is the best places I recommend if you are looking for the right links and official source of any crypto project.
You're right, informations here are reliable but not hundred percent.

There are some people in the cryptocurrency world who are attracted to stealing other people's assets. They strategize various schemes to grab that money. How steal their money is their trick. In the case of those who are newbies, they are constantly accepting scams because they do not have a good idea about these things. Newbies should be careful about several things for using meta musk.
*Downloading Metamask link through official site. *Before connecting to a new site on Metamask, make sure that the link is correct. *Twitter can present a variety of temptations that should be avoided until confirmed. *Avoid clicking on random or unknown sites. If there is a particular site, bookmark it for regular use. *Phishing sites will remain but users will still need to complete their required transactions in the meantime. A user's awareness is the only way to protect his wallet.
There can also be many other reasons but if someone follow these precautions, he can easily avoid scammers attract.

Yes, some months ago I experienced a fake website that was shared here on bitcointalk in Bitcoin Discussion Board from a newbie account or new member. After some time thread was removed by the moderators. The website was shared to trap new user who has insufficient information about the crypto industry. The website was offering 0.2 BTC which is a good amount for free but they wanted us to deposit a very small amount first to fetch 0.2 BTC haha and when any user may have connected any wallet to fetch 0.2 BTC from this site his wallet may have compromised or washed out. have a look here>> [Guide] Avoid These Kinds of Scams.

I think he arrived at the conclusion based on his personal experience or from the sad stories of many users. I've also make similar mistake during my rookie days, but the truth is Twitter is a good place to get information about new crypto projects if you know how to use it.

Scams and hacks are everywhere nowadays and IMHO, the best protection is being informed. As they say, 'prevention is better than cure'. So when you are informed, you'll know the signs that the giveaway or anything related to crypto has red flags and when you've seen those. What you'll think about is avoiding them at all cost. But if you think that some apps or tools are going to help you figure out if something is fishy, then you should try it but it's a continuous learning process that you have to learn. And this is not just for the beginners but, it is for everyone.

We don't need to have the urge for quick profit because there is no place we can get that even though we might have been getting free money from a particular source, it could surprise us that that source is a Ponzi scheme which is liable to crash anytime. I've indulge myself in ponzi scheme that I never knew it was but my common sense was telling me to opt out which I did before I knew that I was very wrong.

Thanks for confirming the authenticity of this guard extension, to protect ourselves from connecting to scam websites, this is a very useful information that everybody that is into crypto transactions needs to know. It's very worrisome that scammers are devicing new sophisticated methods everyday to scam people who are not well informed, so the only way to counter them is to be security conscious and stay informed about there wicked activities and learn ways to avoid them. I'm very skeptical about Twitter X, YouTube and telegram, a lot of crypto scams are there and the medias, don't do much to control the scam influx, I rely mainly on Coingecko, to get authentic crypto information.

Well done sharing this. To newbies, while you put your trust in the said Wallet Guard, you have to manually help yourself too. What I’m saying is that you should be careful of what links you click, you should be careful of what airdrop you jump on. I’m saying airdrop because sometimes they ask you to connect your wallet for you to claim tokens but you do not know they end up hacking your wallet of what’s in it. Also, when you connect your wallet to anywhere, even DEX, always ensure to disconnect the wallet after you’re done.

Why isn't this OP getting merited even if the thread could save users from phishing attacks especially now that Elon Musk have allowed the bots and scammers to take over X with verified orgs and handles been given to scam accounts to promote their schemes.
OP doesn't make it sound severe enough but should. It is actually a menace right now because immediately a transaction is signed from any of those links, it approves a drainer that wipes off any and all tokens (ERC20s, ERC721, ERC1155, etc) from the wallet.
