For example you can't go on a private telegram group and tell people they're running a scam because they will ban you.

I have been kicked out many times from telegram groups and the reason is because I just keep asking a consistent question which non of their admin was ignoring. Such attitude is even what can make people to believe that the project is a scam. Every good project will always want to be transparent.
Because they don't want someone to verify and have their real intention come out. The lack of transparency will bring confusion to everyone but when we ask, nobody will answer even though admins see it because those people who are actively talking in the group are just teammates. Yes, not too dumb not to feel it and realize that they would like us to put it into their pocket and think we're too innocent not to see their main objective.

Now, the telegram group is really full of scams. Can't be sure who we are talking to and who we can be trusted as they even use known names and big personalities as their identity.

The social apps is unsafe to be a place where a newbie can get good knowledge about cryptocurrency. It is good to recommend people to learn from the Bitcoin talk communit or any other Bitcoin educational material that is legit.
There is no social media app that there are no scammers, even in this forum, there are scammers looking for opportunity to scam anybody who lets their guard down in the forum. You see scammers on this forum offering to help people recover their lost bitcoins, putting up ridiculous offers and adding their telegram links for gullible and tempted forum members to contact them etc. Scammers can appear to have any profile because they can hack and steal the profile of anyone and then use it for their nefarious acts.

People lie a lot on social media, can claim to be anyone to just get your trust. Be intelligent and do not trust easily.

The op is very correct. Before now, telegram use to be the headquarters of scams, but recently Twitter have taken over that spot. If care isn't taken, you can see a link on verified account on Twitter with a golden tick, and yet turns out to be a scam.
These days, it doesn't matter who posts a link, due diligence must be carried out before clicking and don't make the mistake of signing in using your main wallet.

I mean for sure there are a lot of scammers and hackers out there, especially on social media, probably like you have mentioned on Twitter or X there are probably a lot of scammers probably because most of the projects started to build their followers on Twitter or X especially projects that are cryptocurrency related like wallets, NFTs, networks, groups, etc. That is probably where a lot of scammers scam a lot of people, there is still a lot of this on our social media but I do think there was a higher chance of being scammed on X, i mean I dont really see any related cryptocurrency ads on Instagram and Facebook anymore, but there are still a lot of it on google ads.

For sure this was already common for most of the traders, as long as there are people that are getting scammed and hacked by these people they are not going to stop what they are doing, probably it only costs them a very small effort or might also pay a small amount to advertise as well but the amount of there profit might be huge for sure.

It was really easy to avoid since if you already have the knowledge and know what you are doing you could easily identify red flags on a scam or hacks, something like it too good to be true, also your not really going to just trust anybody, especially on social media since anyone could easily create an account there without really need to identify or show some kind of credentials on this social media websites.

Why do people feel that since Elon Musk took over Twitter, the bird app suddenly became a hub for scam and hate speech. I think Twitter has always been that way. Before the takeover, there was a hack on twitter that targeted accounts of celebrities and famous people. The hackers were able to pull off a massive scam, deceiving unsuspecting users to send bitcoins to a wallet address and receive double the amount sent. You can imagine how many people fell for the scam.

Social media is a tool and people are bound to abuse it. You can never be too sure of what is real or fake on social media. Catfishing is made possible through social media, it’s worse now because of the advancement of AI. Scammers can manipulate facial appearance and voice to communicate with their victims.

Exactly what I was saying this evening about the possibility that someone can easily get scammed if he goes to search for information about Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency in social media platforms. These social media platforms are breeding ground for scammers as they know it hosts lots of people that are naive in terms of their level of knowledge so they use that advantage and claim to be all sort of different expert for the gullible ones to believe that and get scammed because I believe if anyone has been exposed to the knowledge and warnings that Bitcointalk highlights, they would high possibility of them avoiding such silly scams.

You where thoughtful @ OP. However, I urge all Bitcoin newbies investors and potential investors and to whom it may concern not to stand flexible to be influenced by the social medias, you shouldn't be convinced with the sugarcoated decorations about any any suspicious bitcoins platform in order not to fall being scammed. You must always have it in mind that not all that glitters are gold and only then you could resist the traps of the Bitcoin investors hunters.

While social media can be an advantage for those who wants to promote their business, but seeing it as a key source to learning is always a wrong act. Yes, you might gained a lot of information but the the problem is if they are reliable and comes from a legit source, otherwise you will fall into absorbing wrong information and feeds yourself with fake news and unreliable updates.

To learn safely, focus on bitcointalk or any reputable source about bitcoin. Rest assured that you won’t be exposed into misleading information that will only make yourself confused and bothered.

A blue tick on X should not be seen as a symbol of trust, anyone can get an account with a blue tick. Telegram has a reputation of being a breeding ground for scammers. A lot of ICOs, traders, crypto communities have groups and channels on telegram, scammers are aware of this and join these groups to target newbies who ask for help with whatever problem they have. If scam victims understand that whoever dms you first is probably a scammer and should be treated like one until proven wise, a lot of these scams won’t even see the light of day.

Why do people feel that since Elon Musk took over Twitter, the bird app suddenly became a hub for scam and hate speech. I think Twitter has always been that way. The hackers were able to pull off a massive scam, deceiving unsuspecting users to send bitcoins to a wallet address and receive double the amount sent. You can imagine how many people fell for the scam.

I do not personally think that the scams on Twitter has anything to do with Elon musk taking over. Like you said, Twitter has always been that way, true, but I think it has to do more with the scammers now shifting more their attention to Twitter. I can't count the numbers of tags I receive daily asking me to click on so so and so link, but I have never click on such link.

The social media as a tool has it's merit and demerit. While we look at the demerit, let's not forget that the merits far outweigh the demerit.
You will find all kinds of people on the social media. Just guide your mind and stay focused.

True, a blue tick account is no guarantee that the every information from such account should be trusted. What if the account is hacked? Moreso, you don't know the intention of the person behind the acct.
For me, I don't go about clicking links just because it was posted from a gold or blue tick account.

For telegram, I have had many instances of scammers coming to my DMS claiming to be support teams of certain projects especially when you asked for assistance on the group. Many a times I just delete the DMS and report those account because I know fully well that they are scammers.

Full topic: Social media is a breeding ground for scamers, be intelligent while you explore the crypto market.

I got inspired to draft this topic after seeing so many scam airdrops that was promoted on  X formally known as Twitter, so many fake telegram group that are impersonating the original telegram group of other successful project, and  many fake investment groups on Facebook. Some of these groups or fake ads looks very real to the extent that  real newbies who have zero experiences about crypto can fall victim unless they are guided by experienced investors.

The reason for making this post is to alert those innocent newbies who are just new and still starting their journey into crypto for the first time. I don't recommend you guys to follow every information you catch on social media.  Social media is so polluted with scams and too much wrong information. The rate of scam on social media is not regulated and that's why people will keep being misleaded and scammed if they follow every information they get from the social apps.

As this forum is concerned, there are different good people who will never allow scammers  to mislead others, that is why wrong information are always filtered out here and users are immediately cautioned  when they drop wrong information.

The social apps is unsafe to be a place where a newbie can get good knowledge about cryptocurrency. It is good to recommend people to learn from the Bitcoin talk communit or any other Bitcoin educational material that is legit.

Your point is that there are a lot of fake posts in social media these days, that means there are opportunities to rob people, but the important thing is that we can't run without social media. How can we run? So we prioritize any token that we want information about, first we get it on Telegram or on Twitter and also here on Facebook.
If we don't use social media for this thing, then we will be victims of ignorance, we will not even know which coin has what ecosystem, which coin has listing, which coin has what next. what is the arrangement? We will not understand anything.

I think that we should take a strong action against this thing so that we can avoid all these fake accounts that are stealing or the other way is that we are very careful. Investigate against them if we find out that man this is fake website or account then we should not connect with them then we can save. The most important thing is to be saved from the future.

Full topic: Social media is a breeding ground for scamers, be intelligent while you explore the crypto market.

When you see a new project coming up or collaborating with a big platform holding sales or just a campaign, that's where scammers try their luck at cheating.
This method of scammers by duplicating websites and creating advertisements or duplicating social media accounts has been around for a very long time. for beginners, it will be very risky, but if they follow channels or websites that usually release information related to new and valid projects, I think it will reduce the risk. rather than searching manually in their browser's search engine.

You are absolutely right, social media can be a breeding ground for scammers, especially in the crypto market. It's important to be intelligent and cautious while using social media platforms. I have seen so many scam airdrops and fake Telegram groups myself. It's unfortunate that these scammers can create such convincing ads and groups that even newbies can fall victim to. That's why it's necessary for inexperienced investors to be guided by experienced individuals.
Not every piece of information on social media should be followed blindly. There is a lot of wrong information and scams out there and it's not regulated. People can easily be misled and scammed if they are not careful. It's great that this forum filters out wrong information and caution users when needed. It's important to rely on trusted sources and do thorough research before making any decisions.
