Everywhere you go to from Lagos to Kano to Port-Harcourt etc. people are saying the same thing in Nigeria they are crying about the high cost of goods and services in the country. As at January rice was sold for NGN 45,000 and now It will surprise you to know that a 50kg bag of rice is NGN 68,000. A bag of Sugar was NGN 62,000 and now it NGN 75,000 the same thing for Fuel, Tomatoes, Cement etc. all increment was within a space of one month.

My First question is what would be the prices of these commodities in December?

 Is the president trying to pass a message to the people. We are very good at adjusting and praying to God that already have heard us and bless our lands. The government don't seem to care. Just recently custom duty was increased from NGN 1300 a dollar to NGN 1400 to a dollar. The custom duty will drive increase in goods imported and it is the consumer that bears the cost.

When are we going to reach our Limit as Nigerians?

Savings worth nothing again especially when you convert it to dollar. Minimum wage cannot buy a bag of rice. Is it not time to hit the street and demand for better leadership and governance. We have three more years to go

Well brotherly, we done complain tire for this country but nobody dey listen. Even though say we continue na our own be that. Na e make me no dey stress my self again but live life the way I see am. Just yesterday I dey watch one video for my watsup, as I watch am, I felt ashamed of being a Nigerian. Can you imagine an international airport nepa Dey take like. For hours I see for the video say oyibo men Dem on torch light to take see for inside airport like why Nigeria?
First thing, for place like that, Dem no eve supposed dey use light but government supposed mount solar for that area so as to provide 24/7 light give Dem. Why Dem go dey use nepa light for that kind place. I watch that video I wan cry for this country. E no get watin we for do but t survive an work harder bross.

The system of things has made us all incapacitated and trust me words mate it's a deliberate system carved to reduce us to nothing so that we can't have or afford the resources to use in hitting the streets. The media is not on our side so who will show the true story of any outcome of what may result out if we hit the street? Remember #ENDSARS how the media painted it to the outside world but thanks to social media platforms like YouTube and X many genuine videos went viral to showcase their massacre act but till date who has been punished for all the death? No body.

I hate to say this but not prayers or continued endurance of the suffering can save us or bring about a better change to our system of government but rather a war or a determined military coup to ease the pressure of the political system that have bastardized the economy to nothing but continual ruin and shambles.

The country is no longer what it used to be, most of the times I would sit and wonder if the government are really humans like having blood pumped in their heart cause everything happening they have not yet intervain to help reduce the price of commodities and reduce the number of starving citizens. Do they find delight in our sufferings, if hitting the street would be the only option then we are down with it but you see everybody being afraid due to experiencing another massacre.
I trust Nigerians, maybe their cups are not yet full, if they refuse to work on the economy peacefully then violence will become an option as they would prefer the hardways.

Nobody is hitting any street, Nigerians are very docile, always adjusting to suffering. People do not hit the street when it was feasible to produce any positive result, is it now that the country have been polarized that people will hit the street? If you are hoping that there will be protest or revolution or just anything, you better wake up because that is not going to happen.

Anything anybody start now, they will first check where he comes from, his religion, his political affiliations and before they finish checking these things, opposition for whatever course he is pursuing will emerge and the same people he is fighting for will resist and frustrate him. What the ruling class will just do is to fund the opposition and the citizens will start fighting themselves while they unite at the top to continue enjoy the good of the land.

Another thing to know is that people have, true their religious believes, accepted poverty and suffering as normal. To them, the poorer you are, the holier because "it is easier for the camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven". Like I said before, the case of Nigeria is a helpless one, where you wan start from?

With the prices of commodities now surging and becoming tough for most middle class lately, I wonder how the poor masses would survive this, we didn't see this coming, everyone thought this country would get better after the previous government and removal of subsidy, but if you observe closely you'll see that this current government have no plans for it's citizens and is gradually leading our great nation blessed with enough natural resources to becoming a failed nation.
 I just pray we don't get to a stage where the insecurity would surge to it's peak and citizens would start stealing and committing dubious acts for survival, cause with the rate at with the dollar keeps gaining to our local currency I fear we might get to that point, if not their already cause price of commodities would keep going high and too costly for the poor and middle class to afford. And by then they'll start stealing from the rich for survival, sometimes I ask myself where are we going from here, I'm not a negative thinker but all those are bound to happen if things keeps getting worst.
 If you watch closely and observe the news very well you see the citizens have started protestng in various regions of the country especially in the northern part of the nations and with the way it's going, many citizens are tired of living in poverty and starvation, price of goods is not friendly, transportation is nothing to talk about cause of the high cost of petrol and they can't even afford tuition fees for their children, with time this protests could even get worst than the End Sars protest.
 But the question is would these government listen to it's citizens, what are their plans and strategy to reduce the wide spread poverty rate and keep our economy stable again? Well let's see how it goes. Nigeria is a great Nation with bad government but we hope for better days.

There are some states that are not paying the minimum wage #30,000 the federal government instructed all the governors to do to their workers. I  heard that Niger state people have started protesting against the hardship that is affecting their people which I know that many states will soon join the protest but I will not advise Bitcointalk.org members to join such protest in your state because, government always make use of police and soldiers to waste people souls in the protest which we still have some memory of some incident on our head that happened in the past

OP, I want to start by giving you kudos for taking the courage and deeming it necessary to come up with this kind heartbreaking thread, it is not easy with Nigerian at this point, but what can we do.
The first question you asked is self explanatory but I will have put insight to it, since I was born till this moment no commodity or goods had ever risen from it's former price and decrease later, I have never seen it happen, what we experience here in Nigeria is continues increase of good without adequate plans by the government to make it decline a bit, so we should expect outrageous increase since the major cause of this problems has not been faced with preferable solution.

OP, the import duty you mentioned, ask the government now they will tell you that aren't aware of such development so who is fooling who, the major problem we are facing in Nigeria today is as result of clueless and tainted-minded leaders who are not ready to tackle the basic problem if the mass which is the price petroleum products, any country that can tackle there petroleum industry, employment rate the such nation is doomed.
Do you know if there were functional refineries here and productions taking place adequately the hardship being faced by Nigerian wouldn't have been their.

I'm a concern Nigeria like you but let me give one piece of advice, don't hit the street because more than Nigeria will happen to it and you will be forgotten after a while, I still remember Endsars protests and things that happened in 2020, it wasn't a good experience.

Things are bad from the previous government but I didn't expect it to be this worse with the current government, the reform of policy are harsh to Nigerian and the government need to tackle this before it get out of hands. Kidnapping is also on the increase, insecurity is a big challenge in this economy after the inflation we are going through everyday.

However, looking at this critically. Not only the government is the root of all these problems, even the citizens are among the problems we are facing. There is something people are doing which is hoarding of food items, domestic items and dollars. People are taking advantage of each other, things they were supposed to sell and make available for the public, they are hiding it which is creating demand. Even the civil servants is buying dollar to keep after receiving his salary and we want the economy to be better? Common! We are dollarizing our economy and it will kill everyone.

Hitting the streets isn't the main problem, our politicians have no respect for the lives of those they're ruling. They have the habit of politicizing any protest that well meaning Nigerians initiate. You can take inspiration from what haired during the End SARS protest, they  openely executed lots of citizens without  respect for the national flag that the victims were bearing.

Myself was testimony to the arrival of thugs in SUV cars to steal from banks ATMs and they were labeled protesters. As soon as peaceful protests starts, politicians sends thugs to escalate activities and  paints the good deeds of well meaning citizens a very negative color,  thereby betraying the motive and undermining the effectiveness and importance of such demonstration.

It's sad to say that in just mere 9 months of Tinubu in office, the country has been forced to experience a All-Time-High hardship which we did expected, but not too soon, and the manner it is today, because I'm sure all through Buhari's 8 years in office, never did we have a nation wide hardship and rapid increase in the price of goods the way it is, because looking at how rapid the prices of goods are increasing, without a substantiating increase in minimum wage, as it's now high time the Federal government take prompt action to address this national menace, before it's too late, as there is a high chance if price keep skyrocketing, then people are likely to protest in mass.

I just bought a rice today, and to be surprise, this price you gave has been increased, as I bought mine today at NGN75,000 (i.e in just an interval of few days)
