Hello,

I tried to buy many tokens on uniswap but it turned out most of them are illiquid.

It looks like illiquid tokens can always be bought but there might be problems with selling them later.

So I'd like to ask: How can I always buy illiquid tokens that aren't listed on exchanges? Is it possible on uniswap or do I have to change platform? I don't mind waiting hours to get my order filled btw.

P.S: I understand the risks well. And so if I'd ever do it, I will know how to manage my risk...

Thank you!

If the only platforms the token is listed on are DEXs like Uniswap, your only option is to buy slowly. With every swap, you can see on the interface how much price impact you'll be making. As much as possible, keep the price impact as low as you can while keeping the buy viable considering fees.

You can check the token's CoinGecko page to see how liquid/illiquid it is so you can plan your buys better.

I tried to buy in the slowest way possible (e.g. 1USD despite the token having a market cap of around 10 Million USD). I failed.

I just checked some tokens on coingecko. They are green but for some reason whenever I try to buy the tokens on uniswap, I get the message "Insufficient liquidity". I even messaged support and they told me there wasn't liquidity. They stated afterwards that it is always possible to buy illiquid tokens. They did'nt tell me how I can do that however...

Are you 100% sure that liquidity is actually on Uniswap? There are instances where the project team deploys liquidity on other platforms instead like Balancer etc. Mind linking the CoinGecko page of the token you're planning on buying?

Also, use aggregators. https://swap.defillama.com/

Thank you for the link. Didn't know that such aggregators existed.

https://www.geckoterminal.com/bsc/pools/0xf8be5ba820e07c0c70b88327f921e61b86cf4eeb

Here is another token that just I tried swapping on swap.defillama but I got the message "Insufficient balance"...
This one isn't on uniswap btw.

P.S: I made a rabby wallet and I sent 6 USDC. I connected the dapp to swap.defillama . For some reason, swap.defillama shows I have 0 USDC but my rabby wallet shows I have 6 USDC.

1. Are you sure you switch to the correct network which is BSC, not the default Ethereum network?

2. Are you trying to trade the right token? Paste the AIX token address to DefiLlama(0x227cdd74d0831f6a5813691eff43d664b4b99450).

If you are buying a token which is so illiquid that a small order can create huge price swings, you are better off not buying that token at all.

Many of these meme tokens which are only listed on dex are usually pump and dumps and they have a short life span. Many got lucky with Shiba Inu or similar but most bought tokens which are -100% loss pretty much.

Be very careful with these tokens.

I think that's why buying from OP doesn't work, yes. Unfortunately, it's also a very common problem where you can always find threads about it on Reddit and co. That would also explain why he assumes illiquidity here, something like that doesn't actually exist on a DEX if the token is listed there. The DEX itself ensures that this cannot happen ... unless OP buys huge quantities of the token.

It seems like I have USDC in polygon. While I selected BSC network yesterday, I am not sure if I should convert my USDC polygon to USDC  BSC or something? It's taking me lots of time figuring out things myself sadly...

No, I have a probable working strategy that I'd like to try. It relies on certain types of fundamentals. I don't plan to invest but to do swing trading. I am never putting more than 0.1-1% of total market cap on such projects. Also, I am willing to put just a few bucks or a very small % of my account balance in such projects.

Why are you buying illiquid tokens on dex, they always ends up been dumped and worthless tokens with low buy order, also since uniswap mostly lists ERC 20 based token, do you think you can cover up the Ethereum fee.

This should already be the reasons why you shouldn't bother getting illiquid tokens, they already a dumbed market with low buy order that'll probably never get filled up. It's best you look out for more liquidated assets for your own good.

Then you probably misconfigured your CEX withdrawal or your bridging options hence why you have funds on the wrong chain.

Maybe not go for them? Cap is not the liquidity, I can make 10 million tokens right now, and then sell one token for one dollar to myself, that makes it 10 million cap, but then not sell any of it and just keep them all, doesn't mean yo can buy it and yet it has market cap of 10 million dollars. Look at the liquidity, if there is none then don't do it, there is no reason to risk yourself with getting something you may have hard time selling later on. Why get something that nobody wants to buy? If it is for just "fun" reasons maybe that could work, but if you are doing this for investment then I would highly suggest staying away from it as much as possible for the longest possible time.

That's risky but if you've decided to do so, try to increase slippage. Because that's most likely one of the ways to buy them when platforms like Uniswap or Pancakeswap don't allow you to but if there's really lack in liquidity, even if you do that, it's highly unlikely going to happen.

I think that I get your idea of buying them because we're going into a bull run and you'll never know if some prince out there try to pump those illiquid tokens and luckily you have them so, that's how it goes.

But are you sure that you like it to be throwing money on them?

It seems like I have USDC in polygon. While I selected BSC network yesterday, I am not sure if I should convert my USDC polygon to USDC  BSC or something? It's taking me lots of time figuring out things myself sadly...

Then you probably misconfigured your CEX withdrawal or your bridging options hence why you have funds on the wrong chain.

If the token you want to buy is on BSC, then of course you need to have the USDC on BSC not on Polygon because the token and the liquidity is on BSC.

So if I correctly understand, in order to do this, I'd need to:
1) Transfer my USDC through BSC network to my wallet on swap.defillama
2) once I receive the USDC through the BSC network on my wallet, I can exchange them for the token I want through the BSC network.

So I am just missing the 1st step.

I cannot convert my USDC polygon to USDC BSC on swap.defillama? The only way to do the step is to withdraw the tokens through the BSC network?
And is there a guide or book that explains all this stuff especially the practical part) and other related stuff? For instance, the token aggregrator you sent me is going to really simplify things... I was intending to register to many different decentralized exchanges..

Thank you

Yes, I completely understand this point. I indicated market cap to confirm that the money I am using won't move the price of the token.
Most tokens are concentrated on one wallet in such tokens, but due to some fundamentals, things change later on.
I think the problem isn't linked to liquidity but to some misunderstanding to some specialized crypto network basics (e.g. bridging etc) because the application cannot even recognize that I have money in my wallet. I wrote that in my previous post.

As I previously stated, I am not investing but swing trading. I do that on tokens that will supposedly get liquidity or interest in the future due to fundamental reasons.

hat's risky but if you've decided to do so, try to increase slippage.

From what I understand, despite the low liquidity of these tokens, it might be possible to buy them and sell them. I just don't understand some crypto basics like bridging etc. I was exchanging USDC received from the polygon through the BSC network.

I think it really depends on how much money is thrown and on which projects. Some projects have a higher chance to go far within a short period of time at least. Also, I am not investing but swing trading while managing my risks.. When I swing trade, I rely on some specific fundamentals and technicals

In addition, to be able to purchase tokens for USDC on the BSC network, you need to have BNB in this network to pay for gas.

The cheapest way to transfer your funds from the Polygon network to BSC is to use a centralized exchange by transferring USDC from Poligon to the exchange and then withdraw it from the exchange to your wallet on the BSC network. If you are not registered on any CEX, then you need to use a bridge, for example orbiter.finance, but in this case you will have to pay a higher commission.

Thank you! This is the information I needed.

So there are only 2 common options.

The simplest and fastest way to buy my token would be to do the following:
Let's say I want to buy token X on Exchange Y. Coin A is used for gas fees on this exchange.
-I buy Coin A on CeX (It will cover the gas fees and the cost of the future token that will be bought)
-I withdraw Coin A through Exchange Y to my wallet on DEX
-I pay the token with Coin A

This answers my original question

I did both.

https://ibb.co/WPM3X6n

And is there a guide or book that explains all this stuff especially the practical part) and other related stuff? For instance, the token aggregrator you sent me is going to really simplify things... I was intending to register to many different decentralized exchanges..

Thank you

1. You transfer your USDC from Polygon to BSC through a bridge such as Stargate. On-chain bridging will be expensive fee-wise though so you're better off transferring through a centralized exchange like Binance is you have an account.

2. Yes.

Note: swap.defillama.com is a DEX swap platform, for exchanging tokens on the same network. If you're looking for transferring tokens to and from different networks, then they're called bridges.
