Hello enthusiasts,

Hope you're all well.

I'd like to draw your attention to a blockchain project we're currently developing in collaboration with several universities including Oxford, University College London, Harvard and Pennsylvania State University.

It all started 2 years ago after I got scammed on StockX buying a pair of sneakers online (they're basically the biggest sneaker marketplace in the world). No possibility to get my money back... F***

Being quite interested in blockchain at the time, I contacted a good friend who is a research fellow in cryptography and security at UCL (University College London) and explained the situation.

We then decided to develop a marketplace based on blockchain and game theory (e.g., Ebay-style but better), for the exchange of high-value and highly counterfeited physical assets - sneakers, watches, jewelry, luxury clothes, and more - starting by focusing on sneakers (the black market being 5 times the legitimate market, which is really crazy).

Over the last 2 years, we've spent a lot of time writing research papers demonstrating our system and its reliability to ensure exchanges without the need for trust on the part of buyers/sellers, and therefore without any possibility of being scammed and/or buying a fake asset.
We also took part in academic conferences, e.g. BlockArch at the University of L'Aquila in Italy, to get as much feedback as possible to help us develop our system.

We've also built up our team (+23 people), designed the marketplace with a focus on UX (making it as intuitive as possible for a non-crypto user), and now have some legit "celebs" in the business world to promote us at launch. All set.

I'm posting on this forum as we're looking for private investors (or even anyone able to help and/or wanting to get involved) to take this to the next level and have a good marketing/legal base to make as much noise as possible.

Our white paper - https://arxiv.org/abs/2210.08372

Cheers,

MZ

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Interesting if true.
Can we see some official confirmation for this?

No possibility to get my money back... F***
I hope you know that it's even harder or even impossible to get money back with p2p Bitcoin payment.

We then decided to develop a marketplace based on blockchain and game theory (e.g., Ebay-style but better)
I would like to see good ebay alternative that supports bitcoin payment, but good luck competing with them  Tongue

I'm posting on this forum as we're looking for private investors (or even anyone able to help and/or wanting to get involved) to take this to the next level and have a good marketing/legal base to make as much noise as possible.
I hope this marketplace is going to be based on bitcoin or at least some second layer for bitcoin.
Working with anything else, or with new blockchain is not going to end up good.

I'm posting on this forum as we're looking for private investors (or even anyone able to help and/or wanting to get involved) to take this to the next level and have a good marketing/legal base to make as much noise as possible.

Why do you need private investors for this project if you already have a big team of +23 people and a lot of universities involved?

I just read parts of the white paper, and i understand how the users build trust in the process, but i see a problem there, even if one user has the best trust in your system it doesn't mean he can't scam. It could be 1 big scam to walk away. Let's say he builds trust selling shoes, and once he gets impressive trust then he offers a Rolex, then he claims that he already sent the roles while the buyer gets a box with a rock.

2 weeks ago a friend bought a phone in MercadoLibre (it's like a mix of Amazon and FB Marketplace), he bought it from a really trusted user, and he got a popcorn bag. Since the seller has a high trust rank MercadoLibre thinks my friend was trying to scam him. So, it's a complex situation, but it proves the trusted users can scam too.

To avoid scammers and abusers you can't leave it to a decentralized platform, you need a centralized system to be able to negotiate between seller and buyer, there should be a man in the middle of the transaction. Other way people will fin the way to abuse the system.

The only solution for a true cero risk marketplace is to have a third party involved, the process would be something like this:

1.- Bob sells a guitar to Alice
2.- Alice pays to BigCompany the guitar
3.- Bob send the guitar to BigCompany
4.- BigCompany verify the guitar is the product on bob's description and works fine
5.- BigCompany sends the guitar to Alice, and the money to Bob

I fail to see how a decentralized system will be more trustworthy than a centralized platform?

I can see that a decentralized platform might be more secure and more difficult to take down, but that might also be a problem, if this platform are used for illegal transactions.

How will this platform stop a long con? In my experiece, all systems have pros and cons... and also vulnerabilities that can be exploited.

Searching for investors or the private sector is different from academic research, as mentioning the names of universities or future ideas without asking what will benefit the investor and the return on investment will be meaningless.
Explain your idea commercially, market your idea, the required amount, expected return, and hosting for the site so it can be tested and a roadmap for the next 18 months.

I read the white paper and it speaks theoretically and is closer to a questionnaire than a practical implementation of a project.
The date of publication is November 2022, and we are in 2024, and it is imperative to include what you did last year.

It does mean the adoption is already massive if a decentralized marketplace that works like eBay becomes popular with the masses. Since this project is looking for investors, does it mean it will also release its token?  Looks easy to promote if the project is backed by universities. Haven't really seen a popular decentralized marketplace that is almost known by all in the crypto space.

Please see the following:

https://4k.com/  a website that is aiming to commercialize relatively the same niche.

https://www.eclipsepayments.com/ My project that is aiming to commercialize the same niche albeit without the fancy mathematics.

Im very interested to learn more about your project as this sort of financial solution will be needed in the future to provide goods in a trustless fashion.

If you would like to read about my approach to the matter please read my launch thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5465798.0

I fail to see how a decentralized system will be more trustworthy than a centralized platform?

Decentralized simply eliminates a single person controlling all trust.     But untrustworthy people can overwhelm a system, so a third party verification would be needed to vet the participants.

If there was a solution for this, we would see automated escrow systems quickly replace manual, expensive systems.
