Honestly, I don't follow club football that much, so I don't know what the chances of these clubs are - but from some past times, the Greek football league always seemed to me to be of better quality than the Bulgarian one. However, times are changing and everyone knows how to play football today - so I hope that we will see two good matches and that the guys who promote BTC will win in the end.
Well, in a previous round these guys kicked out Maribor who are not a bad team at all, so they can certainly be dangerous and will have their chances against PAO. Having said that, even though I appreciate what Botev is doing with bitcoin, as a Dinamo Zagreb fan (which are traditionally close to PAO) and someone who travel to Athens on the regular basis and have friends there, I hope for greeks to win (but won't be sad if Botev goes further either).

Have a good time in Athens and at the match Wink
Wife informed me that she a;ready has some plans for Thursday so no live football for me (big disappointment as I was hoping to experience the famous "horto magiko" chant once again), but I'll watch it in a bar for sure.

I absolutely agree there, because I have never been a fan of any tokens, regardless of the fact that they make some sense when it comes to football clubs - but on the example of one club that you probably know about, we can see that things don't look very promising. Maybe it's different with clubs that have a much larger fan base, but Botev Plovdiv is definitely doing something completely different.
Yep, on paper tokenization makes sense with clubs that have socios model, but its entirely different thing to actually make it work in practice.

Botev Plovdiv is an excellent advertisement for Bitcoin. According to their recent tweet, over 1 million people watched their game against Maribor. Considering the popularity of Panathinaikos, it's fair to say that even more potential bitcoiners will watch their next two matches.
I think Bitcoin helped Botev Plovdid to sign better players for this season and they wanted to go in European competition to get more attention.
But not all fans like Bitcoin, I saw video report when some ultra fans got in fight with some reporters because they are very anti-bitcoin.

I am in Athens at the moment and will be for the next 10 days and was thinking about going to watch the first game live (I try to watch few PAO games per year when they play on Olympic Stadium as atmosphere is insane) and now I have even bigger reason to actually see the game since Botev is so deeply involved in bitcoin. Just have to check with my boss (read wife) first. Grin
If you go to stadium try to get a shirt from them  Grin
Panathinaikos vs Botev Plovdiv is played on Thursday July 25, and I think it should be hot atmosphere when Greek team plays against Bulgarian team.

It's not like Botev is forcing bitcoin down the throat of those who don't want it. No fan or player is forced to receive, pay, or engage with bitcoin if they don't want to. I wouldn't pay attention to what certain hooligans who call themselves fans are doing, and what justifications they find for their actions. Just add "they were bitcoiners" to the list of "they were different nationality, religion, skin colour, height, gender, spoke weird, walked funny", etc., so we had to attack them to defend our way of life.

It is small club in small country. They use all opportunities to attract attention.

It depends on what you consider a small country, because if we look at the size, there are at least 100+ countries that are smaller in area than Bulgaria, and also about 100 countries that have fewer inhabitants.

Big clubs don`t need it. I think they can have problems with tax services. In some countries BTC is prohibited. They don`t want any problems for using BTC. May be several years later.
But the same time, i see that some clubs(even EPL) have some BTC advertising on their shirts.

If we exclude China, those few countries where BTC is banned are in much bigger problems anyway than having such a ban - and the rest of the world has no problem with BTC as an alternative currency. Big clubs are always looking for a way to make as much money as possible, but that doesn't mean that their managements are intelligent enough to understand that Bitcoin could help them in this.
Even if there are no problems with the law, there are problems with BTC. You have to but additional equipment to use BTC, you have to tech employees how to use it. If you pay some bonuses to players - you have to make changes in their contracts. And i don`t know how it can work - you pay $65.000 and today it means that you transfer 1 BTC, but tomorrow the player see that he has $63.000 and has questions. And there are huge quantity of questions, you have to solve before BTC use. In the small club it is much easier.

Additional equipment? I guess you mean BTC wallets, maybe hardware wallets - or maybe the club uses some local CEX where it "stores" coins, and its players use accounts on the same and can convert BTC to fiat at the moment the club pays it. Be that as it may, the club has obviously found a solution - and if a "small" club can do it, then it shouldn't be a problem for bigger and richer clubs.

Wife informed me that she a;ready has some plans for Thursday so no live football for me (big disappointment as I was hoping to experience the famous "horto magiko" chant once again), but I'll watch it in a bar for sure.

A man has to adapt to everything if he wants to have peace in the house, and maybe some other time the wife will show a little more grace for watching the game live Wink

I plan to watch the match on IPTV, so I hope to find a program on which the stream will work without problems.

Remembered something I had posted about several years ago with Bulgaria holding a vast amount of bitcoin.
And now they have a football club embracing it as a shoulder badge.

But then seen this posted about it on a news reel from exactly a year ago:

Yep, At least hardware wallets, some kind of ticket terminal with BTC payments.
It is much easier to the small club to include such innovations. They have small bookkeeping, small salaries. The don`t need to change hundreds of regulations to include BTC. And the result differs. EPL club willn`t attract much money with using BTC. And Botev Plovdiv - can do it. So big clubs has no reasons to work a lot without increasing profit.

It's not like Botev is forcing bitcoin down the throat of those who don't want it. No fan or player is forced to receive, pay, or engage with bitcoin if they don't want to.
They are putting it everywhere in front of their faces.
Bitcoin flags, logos and advertisement is everywhere on stadium and some people dont like that ans they are protesting against that.
I am not against Bitcoin but I can understand why they are doing that.

Remembered something I had posted about several years ago with Bulgaria holding a vast amount of bitcoin.
And now they have a football club embracing it as a shoulder badge.
Botev Plovdid is a club in private ownership, it has nothing to do with Bulgarian government.

A man has to adapt to everything if he wants to have peace in the house, and maybe some other time the wife will show a little more grace for watching the game live Wink
Exactly! I didn't want to push it too hard as there will be some other (more important) ocassions when I gonna need approval (for example Dinamo qualification game for CL which is sometimes on 20th/21st August). Gotta choose the battles.  Grin

I plan to watch the match on IPTV, so I hope to find a program on which the stream will work without problems.
Meh, I kinda gave up on IPTV. Few months ago I tried one service here from bitcointalk and it worked so bad that I ended up watching games via free streams that were more stable and less buffering than IPTV. Luckily it was only 24 hour trial so I didn't waste my precious bitcoin on a bad service.

Do you have something that is reliable, and that can be paid with BTC?

No one fights for bitcoin without bitcoin having their back. Even if they adopted bitcoin to build their image,  it is not a wrong decision. In as much as they are promoting bitcoin, bitcoin should also have a way to reciprocate the promotion.

Meanwhile, do they also adopt decentralization in decision making and the rest of it. It doesn't just end in bitcoin as an icon or currency, they they behave the bitcoin way?

This is a great move and a welcome development for bitcoin and I’m sure it will give more visibility to bitcoin within that region and the sporting and football industry.
The coins move was a very smart one and this will not just give bitcoin more visibility in their country but will draw the attention of investor and bitcoin enthusiasts to the club and this is a sign that the club is already advancing and making great improvements

This is cool. I love it.

The cool thing is that they didn't just adopt bitcoin to boost their image or anything because with a club like that that go far back as World War 1. Their adoption of bitcoin is in my estimation their own small contribution to the advancing bitcoin adoption amongst their fan base and Bulgaria at large. This is a visionary club with visionary leaders. They even have a role called Director of Bitcoin integration and Outreach.  Anyone is a bitcoin enthusiasts will then be easily drawn to them not even because they want them to win any league but because bitcoin.

Meanwhile, do they also adopt decentralization in decision making and the rest of it. It doesn't just end in bitcoin as an icon or currency, they they behave the bitcoin way?
What do you mean by them behaving like bitcoin because they already made it obvious that they accept bitcoin and as such, I don’t think it will possible for them for them to hide their identity.

Why would they need to implement bitcoin principles  like decentralization in every part of their club, including how they function? Them being so involved in bitcoin is already a great thing, let's not overdo it and have holier than thou attitude.

After all, bitcointalk as a forum that is made for the purpose of discussing about bitcoin is not decentralized at all and majority (if not all) power is in the hands of one man. Tongue

Well, this is amazing what the Bulgarian club Botev Plovdid has taken as a step to advance along with the bitcoin technology because, it's a reality that bitcoin just like the internet is gradually taking over the world as preferred option for business transactions by institutions and individuals. What interest me more is that they are also educating their fans, sponsors and the players on how they can use bitcoin and they didn't just stop there but going as far as  giving some Sats back for every transaction. Bulgaria is one country in the world I know where bitcoin adoption is thriving and the government is officially not for or against it with their policies.

If you are still looking for an IPTV subscription, I can PM you a service that I use. It's very cheap and good for that price. You can pay either with fiat or crypto. It's a guy from the Balkans. He has 24-hour test lines, so you can check the quality before buying a subscription. Let me know if you want to try.

@rdbase, as far as I know, Bulgaria really came into possession of a certain amount of BTC, which it then sold. This was confirmed by their finance minister.

The publication claims that Bulgaria’s finance minister, Vladislav Goranov, told the Prime Minister’s Security Council the sale had taken place, and that the coins were sold piecemeal so as not to crash the market.
“Several sovereign wealth funds and Asian investors” purchased the coins for around €15,000 each, with Deloitte acting as a consultant, Bivol references Goranov as revealing.
Even more curiously, “experts from the US FBI helped to ensure the safety of transactions,” the last of which occurred April 1, 2018, Goranov is reported to have said

I plan to watch the match on IPTV, so I hope to find a program on which the stream will work without problems.

In fact, I have something that turned out to be a very good service that can be paid for with BTC - definitely one of the best IPTV services I've had. However, what I have concluded is that apart from the speed of the internet, the device you are watching on and the software you are watching through play a big role in the whole thing.

In any case, you can get a test so you can check the quality - I'll send you a link via PM.

Lol, maybe I was trying to make things difficult for them. I know that in practice, adopting a decentralized system in an organisation is not feasible, especially as it concerns decision making and finance control.
Thanks Rikafip for reminding me that here is not decentralized, I had thought I am in a decentralized forum for about 3yrs now Roll Eyes

Yeah I know that all those can have an effect, but the last IPTV I tested gave me the same problem across several different platforms (SmartTV, PC and media player) while I have fiber internet, meaning problem was on their side.

In any case, you can get a test so you can check the quality - I'll send you a link via PM.
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Regarding the PAO vs Plovdiv tonight, temperature finally dropped a little bit in Athens ("only" 31 atm  Tongue) today which will make it a little bit easier on players to actually perform.

If you are on the stadium today it would be fantastic if you could send few pictures from the match Smiley

Today is another day for Botev Plovid in Europa League and they are visiting Greece to play against Panathinaikos.
Home team is a huge favorite but I think Botev has a chance to make positive result here, that is a draw or losing with one goal difference.
Odds are amazing on Botev, but asian handicap is safer and pays nice.

I was able to watch only the first half and Pao was expectedly better and they scored the first goal very early, but after a doubtful situation in which Botev Plovdiv was not awarded a penalty kick, Pao received a penalty kick due to an evidently sharp start and scored the second goal.

I looked at the most interesting details from the second half and Botev Plovdiv was much better and more dangerous and they managed to score a goal from a very nice action, and they had another VAR check for a possible penalty kick that was not awarded.

After all, I can conclude that Botev Plovdiv has a good chance in the return match in front of their fans. As you can see in the video, the stadium in Athens was half empty, but in the middle of summer and high temperatures, people are not really interested in football.
