Moloney loves a hard and grind fight, very close and then throwing everything. I think he will try to test Gaballo early with that kind of strategy and see how Raymart will respond. And if that happens, I think Gaballo will have the advantage. Unless Moloney started to fight in the distance and uses his jab and try to avoid the power of Gaballo early. But he is fighting in his country, and I think he will be carried away to fight toe to toe so that he can please his fans. One thing that might go against Gaballo is that if this fight goes on, he might round out of gas which is his weakness. So he should really be 100% condition here, and thinks that it's possible that this fight is going till the last round.

Being in his home turf might give him advantage on this one. Remember, Pacquiao vs. Horn, so if Gaballo wants to win this fight. Better aim for knockout at early rounds. If this will go the distance, Moloney, may possibly win via unanimous or split decision.

Gaballo should aim to win this match for him to wave his flag and redeem the recent losses of his fellow Filipino boxers. I understand Filipinos are aiming to find another boxing caliber like Pacquiao. And it seems, no one yet is following his footsteps.

For sure, a lot of Filipinos are voting for Gaballo, hence, leading the poll.   Tongue

Based on the poll, Gaballo by Knockout is the winner here. Majority is seeing Gaballo, although not as experience, has the power to win here via knockout. And when you mentioned the fight in Australia between Pacquaio and Horn, it's like a stigma that Australia has been biased but I do not think that is the case anymore.

But just to avoid that kind of controversy, Gaballo should aim and win by knockout here so that there will be no doubts about the result. Or at least make it a clear winner on the scorecard just like what Haney did to Kambosos so that there will be no "robbery" in this fight.

..it's like a stigma that Australia has been biased but I do not think that is the case anymore.

We should not focus on Australia itself but on the judges assigned to the fight. The selected judges in a big fight always came from different countries. It's not the country but the politics behind the fight that has the power to influence the judge's decision.

I'm sure that even if this fight between Gaballo and Moloney is held in the latter's home country, the possible manipulation is because of the politics and not on the country, Australia. I don't even see it as an advantage for Moloney that it will be held in his country. He is far from his prime and even in his prime, he didn't face fierce boxers in the bantamweight.

Moloney's advantage is experienced being a veteran in bantamweight. But that advantage won't be effective if his body won't able to keep to a much younger and quicker Reymart Gaballo who is much hungry to taste a big title and is currently a rising star.

But there could be influence on the judges itself from Australia or some entity within the country to make a bias judgement. I'm sure you have seen the Manny Pacquaio vs Jeff Horn fight and almost everyone here thinks that Manny won and that the judges favor Jeff Horn because the fight is made in Australia. So we should take notice of it specially if the fight lasted that 12 rounds and we really don't know who wins.

That's why it is advisable for Gaballo to really dominate this fight early on and not give Moloney the confidence to go full 12 rounds as it's very dangerous that Gaballo is going to lose on the scorecard of the judges.

It would be interesting if he will just give Gaballo the fight that he wanted, a toe-to-toe fight will make this very interesting. The strategy of Gaballo is very obvious as he will just attack like Sultan, and since Moloney doesn't have a high knockout power ratio, he might just lose on points if he will not match the aggressiveness of the challenger. I'm seeing maybe he'll use the same strategy Inoue has used against Ancajas, but Gaballo will be fully conditioned here, that's for sure.

It's not a bad idea, but he will not do that because he'll have to respect the power of Gaballo. Based on record, Jason Moloney's last 3 wins are from MD and UD, meaning he is using his skills very well, and he is not careless as a champion. Gaballo, although had 3 straight wins after his loss to Donaire, 2 of them are in KO. But he is not fighting an ordinary boxer anymore; I mean, he is the challenger in a championship fight. He has to use a better game plan; aggressiveness is good but not using your head is bad.

It's better if both boxers are aggressive from the start, so the fight will end early. It's better that way than waiting for Round 12 to just see a boring fight. If Moloney is inspired by the fans and goes for an early KO win, and that's what Gaballo wants, he is also good at finishing the fight early. So either him or Moloney will be KO'd in the fight; either way, people will be entertained.

As for me, I'll just choose our own. He might be in the territory of his opponent, but this is not new to him. With the betting odds that are very attractive, aside from the support, which is the main reason, the possible big return is one more factor to consider when betting on Gaballo.

I don't see  Jason Moloney as a veteran, because they both have 27 fights and also both start their pro in 2014.

Maybe there's a huge difference on their age since  Jason Moloney is already 33 years old while Gaballo is only 27. 5 years gap but not that much as 33 years is not yet close to retirement age. To back my statement, you can check again their respective records.

In most cases at a title defense fight, you can't expect the title holder to be aggressive. They can still aim for a knockout victory without going into aggressive mode. The one that should be aggressive right from the start is always the challenger as they are the ones attempting to steal the title and should go for a quick scoring.

As a fact, even if we do not apply what I mentioned above, Jason Moloney is not a typical aggressive fighter.

Much especially in this fight, since Moloney's camp knows Gaballo as an in-fighter and wants a close bout, they will surely not consider advising Moloney to go aggressive unless it's necessary to do so depending on what will be the flow of the fight as it progresses.

I am expecting it that way for him, but we never know. What if he is trying to score an aggressive victory as he wants to deliver a message to the world and would possibly get a unification fight with another champion if he wins this? Moloney is fighting in his home country, so most likely he'll impress the fans here and be very much aware of the power of Gaballo.

But that doesn't mean he'll be careless if he gets aggressive, as it could also bring some positive outcomes in his fight. Just imagine if Moloney were to win via KO, defeating Gaballo; that would create a headline, and we know what will happen next. Isn't it a fighter wants to gain popularity? I guess winning via KO is the best way.

I think Moloney is still good at 33. Maybe what @Heartilly meant by being the veteran is that Moloney has many world level type of fights compared to Gaballo who's been fighting nobodies for many years.

I also see Moloney as the hungrier fighter than Gaballo. Moloney wants to prove that he is the best in the division and is also craving to make a great performance in front of his native fans. Lately, almost if not all Ph fighters were losing to their world level fights by body shots. Gaballo's lone loss was also a body shot and it might happen again.

They should all learn from Manny's exercise to strengthen his body or abs, here is a young Pacquiao doing that hard training and it really pays off,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpcso_3tj7c

Hopefully Gaballo will somewhat stop the bleeding of Philippines losing in title fight. Ancajas was the recent victim. All advantage points to Moloney, but this is boxing and it can change everything with just one punch. And as per the poll, majority is seeing Reymart Gaballo to strong a knock out victory, could be biased voting though.

I think the training now is more advanced compared to the time of Pacman. It's just that Pacman is exceptional, so if you are just an ordinary boxer despite having very good training, you'll still end up being an ordinary fighter, although you have a chance to become a champion, but not like what Pacman had achieved in his career.

Gaballo is the next closest to reality in becoming a champion, but he is the underdog here, so we can't be sure if he'll upset the champion on his territory. To make it possible, he needs to ensure that he'll finish with a KO, otherwise, there's no assurance at all on the decision.

They should all learn from Manny's exercise to strengthen his body or abs, here is a young Pacquiao doing that hard training and it really pays off,

He also got knocked out twice by body shots but everything changed when Freddie Roach became his head coach. Maybe it is also more on Pacman's burning desire and determination to get better as he progressed. There were some Ph fighters that went under the tutelage of Roach but they did not achieved something big. Magsayo became champion but only because he fought a one-handed and inactive opponent while losing it quickly in his first title defense.

Gaballo is heavy handed so he's got a fair chance to score an upset. But almost all of the other stats favored the defending champion. Gaballo has to be in the best shape of his life if he wants to become a champion.

There could be advancement in training, but as we can see those kind of hardwork and old school really did good to Pacquiao throughout his career. But as we have witnessed, he is one of a kind so nobody can duplicate what he had done even if they copy his training regimen. And just like what @inthelongrun said, Roach trains a lot of Filipino after Pacquiao but no one get close to what Manny did and still up to know, he is the best fighter that Roach had handled.

Gaballo is the next closest to reality in becoming a champion, but he is the underdog here, so we can't be sure if he'll upset the champion on his territory. To make it possible, he needs to ensure that he'll finish with a KO, otherwise, there's no assurance at all on the decision.

We want him to win by knockout no less, he is going to fight in Moloney's hometown, so he will have to prepare his best version, as it is really hard to see him winning by decision. But strange things happen even if you fought in other countries.

Yes, yes, no one will forget that faithful night as I watch it live and to my dismay, Jeff Horn was declared the winner when the world see that it is robbery. And I think many gamblers lost a lot of money.

Gaballo should aim to win this match for him to wave his flag and redeem the recent losses of his fellow Filipino boxers. I understand Filipinos are aiming to find another boxing caliber like Pacquiao. And it seems, no one yet is following his footsteps.
Then he should take it personal and motivated himself to wave the flag of his country as Japanese fighter is now the new boxing capital in Asia, lead by Inoue. But winning here and becoming a champion, he could restore some pride for Filipinos around the world.

For sure, a lot of Filipinos are voting for Gaballo, hence, leading the poll.   Tongue
It is, and hopefully it will materialized and Gaballo winning by knockout.

R

Unfortunately for Reymart Gaballo he will not get the opportunity to challenge for this title as Jason Moloney will instead be fighting on Naoya Inoue’s undercard on May 6th. Moloney will be fighting Yoshiki Takei. Takei isn’t a much better opponent but the choice of fighting him over Gaballo most likely comes down to which promoter he is affiliated with. Takei is with Top Rank aligned Ohashi Promotion so they are trying to keep things in-house. Regardless of the politics, it’s still a solid card with Takouma Inoue also defending his title.

Wow, what a bad turn of events for Reymart Gaballo. So the mandatory fight that suppose to happen will now vanish into thin air, boxing politics again at its best.

Agree that Top Rank will try to do everything inhouse.

Thanks for this information mate, will lock the thread now as this fight will not happen at least this year.
