During the time of ICO's, quite a lot of people made money through altcoins, though a lot of people also lost money and were scammed, but altcoin projects were very popular at that time and people could make money from them "easily". I would not say i was one of such people who made money from that period, because i have always had interest only for Bitcoin and i have never had any regret for doing so. That "ICO" period is long gone and right now most of what we have is scam projects and pump and dump coins, people still make money from altcoins today, but the risk is very high and it is now almost like gambling.

The game has changed dramatically from the ICO phase. Back in the day, I was able to get allocations even though I'm not an institutional investor, I was still getting some allocations. These days, it's almost impossible so I only get access to tokens when they're available on the exchange. So it's either I trade them with leverage or I just buy the good old spot and hold.

But talking about price performance, it's different as well. Then it was easy to know which token launches will cook. These days, as long as they have deep pockets investors => numbers go up.

For instance: SUI, SEI and Injective all have huge unlocks coming but the token price has been going up insanely in recent times.

What you asked is all around us unless you are not conversant with the different charts of altcoins, they are all there. As Bitcoin has its great memories of success by some people and missed-out feelings by some other people, many other altcoins have theirs as well. Is it Dogecoin, Shib, Ethereum, and even the newer ones like INJ, PENDLE, BONK etc., they all started at a distant price from the level they are now and I believe that they will continue to move higher and give multiple incomes to their investors.

However, some of the mentioned coins/tokens are far from their ATH due to the huge fall witnessed by them during the general bearish season of cryptocurrency which was aggravated by inflation. While others are getting close to them gradually even as we are getting closer to the altcoin season. Nonetheless, from the level they started compared to the level they are now, the early investors will never regret committing their money to them because they would still be holding the asset in value which is several multiples of what they bought.

Sincerely speaking I can't say it went well. all my altcoin are still dead it was just unfortunate that I bought useless shitcoin hoping for the best. But I did it when I haven't known cryptocurrency and even now I have know better than before I don't still think shit/altcoin should be relied on. Because it has no potential and doesn't seems to change. Altcoin gives you joy now and makes you cry the next minute. In what I have understood so far I think altcoin is just for a short investment period not a long term investment. If I invested my money solely in Bitcoin, I would have profited more. But since I decided that diversifying my crypto portfolio is better, I bought some altcoins. They're also rising in prices today like Ethereum but still not as profitable if my crypto investment were concentrated on Bitcoin.

its quite different situation as mentioned by many people, right now its all about being backed by big ventures then you got good altcoin, doesn't matter if the same altcoin has been released and what I mean by the same is technology, sure back then certain altcoin could increase from literally 1 cent to hundred of dollars but thats in the past and also liqudity i don't think as plenty as of now.
i've had a good experience too investing in certain altcoin in the past but right now altcoin are also gaining high profits prominently those that server L1 and L2 these are good investment these days that each can literally grow tenfolds if not hundred folds(rare).
overall i think the current altcoin price just still resemble its past, still got some altcoin that swings hard as well as those that climbs from the very bottom into multi million trading volume 24h.

Mate, the mistake you made when you don't know much about a system does not really count because that was the period that you are regarded as a novice, there is something I understand in altcoin investment, there are strategist in the system that knows when to hit high in it, they don't just come to stay, they target a period to invest, this strategist done lose much because they don't chase after shadows which are new projects even though they will do such, first of all they will make an advanced research before making conclusion on what next to do, I don't have previous experience in altcoin because I don't dig them.

In my case it was ETH and ADA that I invested on prior bear market and we all know that they have a good run and hitting new All time high in 2021. Others could have fill their bags with a lot of altcoins that time and then sold for a big profit.

And speaking of ETH, it reaches $3k because of the news about it's Spot ETF

The greatest of all altcoins is no other than Ethereum. There's no other second to Bitcoin. It's been there for a long time. And I have it because it is a solid altcoin. I've made gains of course but if only I had put what I've invested in it into Bitcoin instead, I would have made more. This is true to Solana and other altcoins as well. If you bought Solana late in 2021 or early 2022, then you're still at a loss. There might have been some altcoins that experienced a quick hype but they are not going to last.

I don't think it is relevant to talk about the altcoins that anyone invested in the past or about airdrops. Most of them were either sold when the market was in green or they would have died down. What we need to think about is the present and improve our future as many altcoins have been in existence and doing well in the market for many years. Thinking about the past does not make anyone rich but always makes them regret their decisions.

I say that I got the biggest profit from altcoins even though I can't deny that I also experienced quite big losses in altcoins and it was all because there were too many scam projects, especially in the ICO trend where developers failed to implement what had been promised, including being listed on one of the major exchanges, but overall it is still in a profitable condition.
In investing in altcoins, the thing that is quite influential is when you enter the market when it is too high, the chance of losing is very big. Also, don't ever want to hold it for too long, especially when you have made a profit, it would be better to sell and never regret it because the price is still continuing to rise because in my opinion that's just coincidentally and if applied to other altcoins the results are very different.

It really feels awful when you hodles a Coin that doesn't enhance the potentials of appreciable volatility whereas, other crytop coins would be on increments in values while your hodling is either backwards or still.

It is true that Bitcoin has made remarkable resurgence during the past six moth, it is now trading around $52,000 which is only $15000 below its All Time High (ATH) reached in 2021. On the other hand the altscoins have not made so impressive recovery. The only note-able performance we observe is in Solana that is now trading around $110 but still considerably below of its ATH of approximately $300.

It is generally believed that prominent  altscoin will surpass their previews ATH, once  Bitcoin undergoes significant surge following the upcoming halving event.

If only scammers hadn't joined the crowd of the best projects at that time, we might still see some working projects being developed based on their roadmaps until now but they failed because they lost a massive amount of budget and supporters which helped them to continue their work. Investors back then had so many choices that they could not even choose which one was right because there were lots of scam ICOs and most of them were trash and were created to confuse investors which also led to other legit projects falling. thankfully many people also managed to land on a good one including me and we also got a decent amount of money from participating in the early sales.

That is exactly what made some good projects to die off. There where good altcoins with great features but many scam literd the internet with fake altcoin everyday making investors to be confused and they later fall for the wrong one and put the blame on all the altcoin. But I believe there are many altcoins with great potential but the scam project is sorounding them, making investors not to see them. But with time investors will understand the the difference when they might have seen some old altcoin that are gradually taking a new shape. Identifying a good altcoin is easy but greed is making people fall for shit project. Good altcoin take time to grow it takes slower time than expected. Meaning that good things take longer time to achieve. But people always like the sharp coin with massive pump. But later dump also.

I mainly focus on bitcoin but I have invested in some altcoins.

So far, I see some good potential in the altcoins I have invested. I already see some profit but I am trying to see the results if I were to hold for longer. I know altcoins are not recommended for long-term investment but I am still trying to see when to take out my money. So far, it has not yet reached the price where I would be concerned and try to sell it as soon as possible.

While diversification is a good thing, I prefer to focus on a few altcoins at a time along with bitcoin of course. I think it helps me think clearer and set my objectives and goals a little more accurately. I think too many on my mind would just confuse me and distract me.

There are multiple experiences but the best and most profitable one was with XRP, I think it was back in 2017 when I bought ripple for few cents like 10 cents or so and that's the time it went bullish and crossed $3 and I sold it for over 30x profit. But, it's the coins which I would never ever invest as they have failed their investors and also they are the most centralized coin without any supply limit hence there is no future in XRP but that's the coin which gave me one of the biggest profits.
