We have said it several times without number on this gambling board that gambling is not for making money. Gambling should only be for fun.

I was an advocate of this (gambling solely for fun and nothing else) but honestly, I've changed my mind, it is wrong to believe that people will spend all of their hard earned money on gambling just for them to have fun, very wrong believe if you ask me.
There are several games people can play for free for fun's sake, there are video games that are way more interesting and fun to play than any slot or casino game, there are also some really good betting games that are far more intriguing to play than sports betting, what exactly do you think make slot games, Casino games, and even sports betting so interesting that people would want to spend their money on it just to have fun? As far as I know, non of this games are as interesting as playing a good video game on my laptop or mobile phone for free.

To believe that gambling should be done purely for fun is dilusional(sorry to say), I once posted a poll on this board where I asked gamblers on this forum that, if the possibility of making money through gambling is completely removed, and they have to keep spending their money to gamble, but will never win a dime because it's completely for fun, will they keep gambling?, the 100 percent who those who answered the pool said no, that they would stop gambling, for what is the essence of gambling if they can't win money.

I like this interpretation of having fun. We sometimes spend our money to get fun/entertainment. Same as gambling, we are paying for the chance to win money through taking risk which gives the entertainment part. People that missing the whole point of entertainment are frequently those focus on gains alone and forgot to cherish the games when they are taking risk.

I think the right approach is to this issue is that every gambler should know that they money they bring into a gambling establishment, while real money, is something that could be lost. If you come in a casino with 100$ and intend to wager those, you could lose 100% of the capital with just a single wager. So the "just play for fun" attitude is actually quite realistic. But of course it's also up to interpretation.

For instance, if you have 1 hour to kill, you might as well spend it gambling. However, if you come in with all your money you made in a month, you could also very well lose it within that one hour. There's other principles that have to be followed here also. If you have any amount of money you can comfortably put aside and some of that to spend on yourself, only of that should be ever entering into a gambling establishment. So if you adjust your bet value, you could sit for an entire hour without losing everything immediately.

All in all, I think the "just play for fun" mindset is something good to share as a catchall because people need to understand that the odds are against them in winning. But for sure other principles should be applied to. Surely being interested in the amounts you play with increases enjoyment especially if you win, but you shouldn't play with what you can't afford to lose. So fun remains the primary "non problematic" indicator of gambling for me still.

Our live experiences have forced us develop opinions on several life issues. Oshosondy, you have always advocated for responsible gambling which is to gamble for fun based on your past experience. What I understand by gambling for fun is simply not to have the mindset that you want to make huge profit from gambling and you can only achieve that fun thing about gambling by not having the profit mindset in gambling. I may not have to blame as many as possible gamblers who have already got the wrong idea and motive about what gambling is, they couldn't find a means of rescue to livelihood by the virtue of their economy or background as well as their government influence not in favor of the upcoming youths, so what they might have left on them to take as an alternative is in seeking for a means of living through gambling and that is why so many of them are addicted and busy running after losses because they cant afford to loose the money used on gambling when they know and understand what is at stake.

I think that it's correct to say that we don't really gamble mainly because of having fun, we gamble because humans likes to be adventurous, otherwise I don't see any other reason why you'll bet your money, knowing that the probability of loosing is far greater than winnings, yet we go ahead with it. So having fun can be a part of it but the main reason would be for the risk and reward. Well, I can definitely buy all this your interpretation for fun, but honestly, how many newbie gamblers are going to understand that this things you said here is what gambling for fun means?
I think it's better for us to all the time, keep things plain and simple, so newbies don't get confused by it.
And one thing again you probably may not know is that, experienced gamblers gamble for fun more than newbies do, I will explain.

It is hard to find a newbie who will come into gambling just for the sole purpose of having fun, most especially the not rich ones, now don't quote me wrongly, rich men, or boys and girls who's parent are rich, living a frivolous lifestyle may definitely come into gambling as part of living their fun lifestyle, but for a poor boy who's looking for all means to change his financial situation, last thing you wanna tell such a person is to come waste the little money he has to feed on; on gambling simply for no reward but for fun.
Most poor people are desperate for money, and gambling for fun is often not in their dictionary when ever you see one gambling, for such people, it is simply experience that teaches them to gamble to have fun and not make making money off gambling a priority.

The above is from my personal experience, when I first came into gambling, I was poor, and came with this mindset of turning $1 to 1 million dollar just few week, I started gambling, weeks passed, months passed, and years passed, I still hasn't been able to turn $1 to a million dollars, and now, with my experience, I came to understand that making money from gambling is not as easy as I initially thought, and now, I am forced to gamble and simply take in good faith; what ever be the outcome, which in other words, can be equated to gambling for fun - according to your interpretation of gambling for fun.


So, in the nutshell, experience is what teaches a poor man to simply gamble for fun, poor people desperate for money don't usually come into gambling simply to have fun.
