Recover DOGE from only BIOM details?

I'm sure most UK users will have at least heard of Bittylicious (BIOM Ltd) as a way to purchase and sell a small number of crypto's.

Way back in 2014 when I didn't know much about anything I registered with them and purchased a number of alt coins. The only one I care about is £695 worth (at today's prices) of DOGE I paid a few quid for.

They keep a record of the transaction so I know the address and other details of the 10,000 DOGE I purchased in Dec 2014. I believe the wallet I had them sent to was one you fully download and install on your machine. I have no other details and I seem to recall installing my first crypto wallets on the C drive with the bulk on a D drive. There is no hope of data recovery on the C drive but it's possible that the D drive might still be in my possession and I might be able to recover some data from it. My current knowledge suggests that they are gone forever. But I might as well check if there is a way?

For a start, do you remember the name of the wallet you installed back then on your PC before you sent in your Doge. Indeed, you are in some kind of tricky situation right now and without back up, your chances of recovering those coins are close to zero?

bittylicious.com may not be able to help you recover the coins because they were in your custody, and neither do they know your private keys or seeds.

I don't know much about recovering of hard drives without seed phrases or private keys, but I know for sure that data in a drive is very much recoverable using the right  recovery software, I've done some tricks using recoverrit software on some drives and data was extracted from an already formatted drive. Since you've the hard drive, I think you still have slim chances of recovering your wallet, and then your coins.

Thanks for the reply. You have confirmed what I thought most likely. I can't remember anything about the wallet I recieved the DOGE into. I have one HDD that might have been the D drive at that time but the C drive was an SSD and has been changed and reused in various machines as I've upgraded my main rig. It's been so many years I just really doubt I have any hope of recovery. And it's only £800 at todays prices so I can live with it. Oh well. I've manged to loose enough BTC from back then to buy a very large and very nice house now so it is but a small loss compared.

I'll just bring it up on an off chance someone is interested. I had a Xapo wallet for a short period and I found this forum when I was searching for a way to get legacy accounts back. I seem to have kept every email that I received about transactions and it would seem I would only have a tiny fraction of a BTC left in there anyway. Even at today's prices it isn't worth consideration. But I emailed their support anyway and got sent a link which has no effect. Well, they asked me to confirm email and said I'd recieve another email so I could continue to get my funds back but I've got no email and they haven't answered a further query but even at today's prices it will be a tiny amount.

Ask them which proof is needed that you can recover your wallet, it might be the email address associated with that wallet.

Hi, yes, I did a data recovery on a USB stick for a friend a few years ago. I found a free tool that got all the files they wanted back no issues. But the drive had not been used at all since the issue arose (it is a long story).

But I've got 4 SSD drives and it could be one of three I think that was the C drive at the time. And all three have seen heavy use. I doubt anything will remain. As for what was the D drive. I don't know if I still have it. It would have been a fairly large capacity (for the time) HDD. But when I upgrade to a larger HDD for basic 'backup' and storage I use DBAN overnight on the drive and then sell it. I've a 3TB drive knocking about that might be it. And I've had a 3TB drive fail on me about 2 years ago. That might also be it and I still have it. And it hadn't failed completly. But I might have upgraded what was the D drive, DBAN'd it and sold it. So I'll just write that route off tbh.

I've only had to deal with their support a couple of times and they have always been great.

But it's my coin, it was sent to my wallet. If the information about the transaction isn't enough to track down the wallet and recover it I don't know what they could do TBH.

Regards the Xapo ac. Their support did email me back and said that I had x BTC in the account when they emailed me in 2021 as a last effeort to give me a chance to get it, or something like that. Where x is a number not worth worreying about even if BTC goes to a $1m a coin.

If the D drive is not overwritten, then you could try using some good recovery software to restore the files from the drive uncorrupted. The reason we wanted to know the wallet software you installed back then was to find out if it stored any encrypted wallet files locally on your PC. If there is a chance that you can recover the encrypted wallet files, I also hope you still remember the passwords you might have used back then for the wallet, and that is also very important.

Yeah I've been through the note book I've been using ever since I started taking crypto seriously and there is nothing. If I did write down a password or seed phrase anywhere it would be in that note book.

It is possible I might of used a generic password for the account. There are a few I use to use for accounts where I didn't care about losing them. I don't do that anymore. But there is a possibility I did for that DOGE coin wallet as I didn't really expect it to ever be worth anything.

Anyway, I'll try running a recovery tool on the 3TB drives I have and see if anything turns up.

I've got a 24 word seed phrase after data recovery. I had it in a notepad with a cryptic clue to the password (I thought that was safe enough!). No idea what wallet it's for. Were there any widely available wallets for anything that used a 24 word seed in December 2014? It could potentially be a BTC wallet but what BTC wallets use 24 word seed? that were around back then?

Help is appreciated!


Edit: The mysterious seed phrase which I assume is from a long time ago is 25 words long if that helps and I think it does?

Can anyone tell me if Electrum ever did a DOGE wallet? Or what was the most popular wallet for DOGE in late 2014?

Also, as I can see from my purchase history, I purchased small amounts of other alt coins that were around in late 2014. Most of these have disappeared, only DOGE & LTC remain from my speculative punts. The LTC I sold for a tidy profit (less than £400 but the mark up was huge) and I still have access to that wallet and it is an Electrum wallet. I bought the DOGE, LTC and other alt coins all around the same time. Only the DOGE remains worth chasing but I am certain that when I purchased it, if Electrum did a wallet I would have used that. The other possibility is that if there was a wallet around at the time that could take Feather Coin, Black Coin and DOGE I would have used that.

If anyone can offer their thoughts on that I would appreciate it.

Edit: Right, there was an Electrum DOGE wallet. I am 100% certain I would have used that in 2014. I am as near to 100% certain as relevant that the D drive used is no longer in my possession. If I can get anything Electrum related off my SSD's I will. Truth be told though, all I will probably have to go on is the time, date and amount with the address and other details I have from the transaction. If having those details and nothing else (except that it will most likely be an electrum wallet) was enough to gain control of a wallet then it wouldn't be secure so I assume that unless I can recover something from one of the three SSD's it most likely is gone for ever. Monitarily 10000 DOGE that cost me only just over £3 isn't going to make me loose sleep but I would kind of like to get accsess back.

I've actually managed to find the reciepts for the two 3TB HDD (one is failing) that might be one of the drives part of the DOGE wallet was installed on. The purchase date was Mar 2014 so I probably bought them to upgrade smaller storage drives in the system. However there are two possibilities which ruin this: I used the two 3TB HDD's in a different mini PC I'd set up and in that case they never had a wallet on them until. The other possibilty is that I set the two 3TB drives as a stripping raid array for perormance. Would I get anything back from a stripped array?
