Coingecko - portfolio tracker?

Hi,

I have been using Coingecko for almost a year now and I like the app however there is one thing that is bugging me.

When I look at my portfolio I have almost doubled the amount I have invested, worked out it is +89%.

However the app is showing my profit is only +65% and not sure why.

I wont say the amount I have invested but as example it is like I have invested £1000 and my profit is £890 which should be +89% but the app is only showing +65%.

Anyone else have this problem or know what is wrong? Maybe I am just having a dumb moment

Your profits may have been calculated from the beginning of the year, or the last 6 months, and not from the start date of your investment.
Are you sure you have added all your investments and all of your balance calculations are correct and up to date?
Are you sure of the increase percentage, and that the method of calculating it in Coingecko is the same as yours?

I have definitely added in every single on of my investments and transactions since I started investing in crypto just over 2 years ago.

I have noticed also that when you add a 'sell' transaction to the app, it doesn't then reduce your 'total cost'.

For example I have a crypto I have invested £725.98 in, I sold my first portion of it the other day, £230.35 worth but the 'total cost' is still showing £725.98 but shouldn't it now be £495.63?? (£725.98 minus the £230.35 I sold = £495.63).

I really don't know your issue with Coingecko Portfolio Tracker but you can try other Portfolio Trackers like Coinmarketcap or Blockchair.com

Yes I did - I will just have to live with it im not changing portfolio tracker now will mean having to enter all my transactions over last few years all over again thats long.

Everything is fine with the app but that percentage it shows me but I can work it out for myself.

Sometimes the percentage isnt the same on the exchange or depends on when you input the data cause sometimes coingecko has a reference based of previous transaction made.  Well if you knew your balance was, then the value fluctuates to a different figure then just compute it manually to have an estimate potential gain.

Why is this bothering you? Or you wished the miscalculation was true?  

Every trackers have bugs on price actions like this one, even coinmarketcap too, I am using okx wallet tracker too which gives me fake value at times, I have a alt that is $0.02 official price and this tracker shows $0.23, when I saw this I thought it was real, I quickly move like a flash into my wallet only to be disappointed.

Or maybe you are the one mixing things up, maybe your profit was calculated from the beginning of the year? It depends on how you set things up, if things aren't going like you want I suggest you should change the tracker, coinmarketcap is always less buggy than others.

I have been using CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap Portfolio Tracker from 2021 and I truely believe despite CMC being owned by Binance, it's the best portfolio tracker. Always correct values, to the point and I also like the UI update which they did recently. I am not endorsing it however just suggesting you to a better alternative if you want. And about your issue, it might be the difference of the price which CoinGecko is fetching and your actual Exchange values. Let it cool down a bit.

As you have written the profits may have been calculated from a certain period I still wonder why the tracker is incorrect. Considering your resolution then February is the month when we are experiencing a bull run and 2023 was a year of the bear for the crypto market. I do not think what you have said is correct as it does not make any sense when we are in a bull market and the portfolio tracker is showing an actual depreciation of 20%

I think the OP might have encountered a glitch or the coins/tokens he invested might have gone down from the previous high. This is only possible if the OP has invested in meme coins which was hyped earlier and now it is not. Either way, using a free and incompetent portfolio tracker would result in the wrong outcome and it is better for OP to either learn from his mistake and work around with AI on an Excel sheet to get a tracker for himself. Relying on a third party would always result in such confusion.
