Hi,

I'm having a problem accessing my Blockchain wallet.

I have all security info, wallet ID, Mnemonic phrase, password.

The only problem is the email address. It is not what I thought and I have tried everything.

Support aren't being helpful.

Any ideas?

You shouldn't need the email if you have the Mnemonic phrase, since you can always restore your funds in another wallet. Assuming you're talking about the phrase after they upgraded to HD wallets and not the old ones they used to have many years ago.

You don't need an email address to be able to access the funds in your wallet address. All you need is a the seed phrase or the private keys . With that you already have complete access to a wallet. The block chain doesn't make use of email addresses plus the password it uses is the seed phrase and private keys.
You can simply download a wallet software like Electrum and Mycelium then make use of the seed phrase or private keys to access the funds.

Only exchanges usually make use of email addresses while wallets that use passwords have nothing to do with the Blockchain as it is just an extra layer of security to help encrypt you wallet keys and phrases.

He's likely referring to Blockchain.com (formerly Blockchain.info), a very old web wallet provider. It's important to distinguish that Blockchain.com is separate from the underlying Bitcoin blockchain technology itself. They are not the same thing.

Use a much better wallet like Electrum and avoid Blockchain wallet. The issues with synching and showing wrong wallet balances confuses newbies, and they end up losing Bitcoins

Since you already have the seed phrase or mnemonic phrase;

1. Download Electrum from the Official site (https://electrum.org) and verify the GPG signatures depending on your Operating System before installing it, just to be sure you installed the right wallet.

2. Once you have installed it, Open Electrum, Select New and then enter your desired account name and click next to create.

3. Select Standard wallet and among the options select "I already have a seed"

4. Enter your seed or mnemonic and under the seed options button check BIP39 and click on next.

5.  I believe your script type on blockchain wallet was legacy as the default, so you select Legacy (p2pkh) and the derivation Path stays as m/44'/0'/0'

6. Enter your desired wallet password, click next to create the wallet. You should be able to see your bitcoins and spend them. If are not able to see your bitcoins, check the addresses in the wallet to see if one of them was your default address in the blockchain wallet you used in the past

Please keep us updated if you are successful or not

Yes, I was referring to blockchain.com

Will the above still work?

I opened the wallet in 2014 and have a 17 word mnemonic phrase.

No, unfortunately I don't think that will work as it was not a standardized seed

Yes, i type my Mneomic code into that and it brings up the password I used when setting up the wallet (which I already had)

But I still need the associated email address to get in.

I opened the wallet in 2014 and have a 17 word mnemonic phrase.

This means your seed isn't a true BIP39 mnemonic; it's a custom one specific to their platform and solely used to back up your password (and wallet ID). It won't work for recovering your wallet anywhere else.

Your only option is to contact their customer support and request assistance in resetting the email address associated with your wallet. If they are unable (or reluctant) to assist with recovery, you can consider your wallet to be lost.

Have you tried recovering your wallet using this option? - https://login.blockchain.com/wallet/forgot-password?guid=

Unfortunately, that probably won't work either, since he doesn't even remember the email address he used.

The odd thing is that when I wrote down the wallet ID / password etc I also wrote down my usual email address.

This however they say is not linked to the wallet.

Surely Blockchain.com have a legal obligation to re-instate my email address (as I have all other security info)?

Otherwise this can be considered theft by Blockchain.com themselves.

My bad, OP it looks like you are in a similar situation like some other members who posted in this thread, particularly this user

He tried to make an experimentation by contacting the support to see if he could manage to recover his account without the email address, but it seems he did not success or is still in the process as there is a back and forth communication with the support but no clear solution. Maybe you can also take your chances by contacting support. I recommend you first read through that thread, though.

Email addresses on Blockchain.com were case-sensitive, check if that might be a problem. When you try to log in, you should receive a confirmation email in your inbox. Check the spam folders, or antivirus or antispam filters at your email provider, which could block the message. Ask your email provider to check their incoming message logs.

Can you find any messages from blockchain.com (or.info) in your archives? That should confirm that you really used that email address.

Surely Blockchain.com have a legal obligation to re-instate my email address (as I have all other security info)?

Otherwise this can be considered theft by Blockchain.com themselves.

I'm not a lawyer, so this might be a question for your legal counsel.  However, their terms of service probably have something in there that lets them off the hook in such cases.

Sounds like you did your part of backing up important information. Is there any chance you also have your wallet file -- the aes.json file? From what I can remember from old articles, folks had the option to download the file, send it to cloud providers and in their email account -- any chance one of them rings a bell?

No, unfortunately i didn't do this.

I have 100% of the security info, it seems crazy that the one thing that is preventing access is an email address. I must have used an address that I have forgotten about and has probably been deactivated now.

Thousands of financial websites have mechanisms for dealing with lost emails, it's crazy that blockchain.com doesn't. It's a lot of money at stake.

How about trying to ask them to just send you the name of the email address you used to open the account, since you completely don't remember it? Maybe you could still be able to log into it if it hasn't been deactivated yet and if you still remember the password

It's a lot of money at stake.

That sounds weird, dude.  Seriously, how do you forget the email address tied to a bunch of money?  Perhaps try retracing your steps by searching through old messages to jog your memory.  Blockchain may offer some solutions, but if we're talking a substantial sum, hiring a professional could prove wise.  They can deal with them in a way that gets results, you know, all professional-like.

I agree it's not particularly great on my part.

When I set the wallet up in 2014 a bitcoin was not a huge amount of money and I was using multiple e-mail addresses, some of which are inactive now.

I have 100% of the security info written down.

I'm now waiting for the support team to get back to me after making some more email suggestions.

I'm now waiting for the support team to get back to me after making some more email suggestions.

But what have they answered you so far? Did they offer any suggestions on how to solve the problem? What are they asking you for that you can't provide?

I remember using blockchain.com wallet some time ago. But then I made an export of my seed phrase and set it up in the Electrum wallet. Now I don't even need their site to access my coins. (I don't actually use that wallet anymore, but I keep a seed backup just in case).

There has been a number of emails and basically they keep asking for the e-mail address that was used to set up the wallet.

From their part, there hasn't been any other suggestions how to solve this.

My last response to them (which was on Sunday) was to give them a couple more email addresses to try. The ones I have given are not active but it seems if I can at least give them the address then I have a chance.

If there's a negative response then I have no idea.

Surely, people losing emails addresses after 10 years is a pretty common thing, so there should be another mechanism, as long as all the other security info is correct.

Just an update on this.

In the email address that I originally thought was associated with the account (and one which they deny is linked to the account) I have found a number of emails.

The first, in 2014 was a welcome to my wallet email. This has the wallet ID which matches what i had written down.

There's another in 2017 asking me to verify the email (whether I did or not I have no idea)

Then there were two emails in late 2017 asking about attempted log ins from a mobile phone.

A final one was sent in 2018 regarding EDPR updates.

So I have sent another message to blockchain customer support.
