Stake; one couple two accounts illegal?

Hello,

My husband has many friends in the poker and crypto community. Some of them also bet a lot on different sports.
He decided few weeks ago to follow their bets on nba as we could watch the games together in the morning.
We did it almost every day for some weeks and one day we got lucky and won all the bets.
When he tried to bet for the next games, it kept saying the maximum limit was reached, even for very little amounts. We asked the support and they gave us a vague explanation. We thought it was an algorithm bug.

I told him we could try to make a new account under my name and see if it worked that way and indeed we could bet again. We bet nba games and won everything again. The same thing happened right away; we couldn’t bet anything.
But this time, even the cash out option was blocked.

We searched about it on forums and found out some sites decide to ban players when they win.

Now the support is saying that my account got frozen because of multi accounting.
Was it illegal to open two accounts between me and my husband?

I will provide all the documents required but I would like to know first if what we did was prohibited or not.

I read a similar accusation against Stake from another user yesterday here on this board and I am kind of wondering if you both are the same person or if the person is your husband, besides, to the best of my knowledge,  what do you guys do was multiple accounting which is against most casinos terms and conditions, since from your statement it clear that you and your husband hard accounts on the stake before making this new one when you get limit placement on the previous account.


Just like others asked in the other thread, did stake hold you from withdrawing the winnings, if yes then you can call them out but if it is just the bet limit placement, then I think it is somewhat understandable, that they may have discovered possible abuse from your IP and hard to place that limit to save their business.

Indeed what we did seems to be against TOS but we weren’t aware of it. As I said, I didn’t even know casinos would ban players if they had a winning streak.

Stake is holding my whole balance for now. I will comply with what they are asking and send all the documents they need.
I am just asking for the money to be sent, not the limit to be raised again (although ultimately i would like to be able to keep on playing)

So you aren't even aware that this is against their terms and conditions? This isn't the online casino's fault, and hopefully you should accept this as your own mistake, where you are now you only need to comply with everything they ask you to do, don't forget that this is your own fault, you have no choice.

Provide Every details and documents they ask from you, prove to them that your husband is involved, I think he should do the same too and the problem should be solved.

Next time be more careful about what you do on any online casino, and I will advice you to always find time to go through terms and conditions of any online casinos, this will save you from any possible threat or your actions.

As I said, I didn’t even know casinos would ban players if they had a winning streak.

In some cases they will do that but if there's no reason to ban when someone is on a great streak, they won't do that unless you're raking like hundred thousand dollars to millions. Otherwise, there's a clear reason of violation why they'd do that when they've detected you.

I will see what happens with this case first before registering to another site. For sure I will never make the same mistake in the future.

OP, first and foremost, the thing to be done before getting registered on casinos is to first go through their terms and conditions of service so that you do not get stucked up after getting registered with them. If you had done that, I think you would not have had or face this issue you are facing now.

This clearly shows ignorance on your path and as a matter of fact, the casino did what they can to protect their organisation so they do not run into any unforseen circumstances that could affect their casino. Stake is a big casino and a well known name in the gambling industry and are reputable for their services rendered.

I would advise you follow up accordingly what they request of you to unblock your account. Maybe they could withhold your win and give you back your deposit or whatever way the case may be, I think they would want to make sure the case is resolved peacefully if they give your case a second thought. Do well to comply with them so your case be resolved amicably.

Unfortunately you have not read the terms and conditions before. In online gambling it is a common thing that you can not create more than one account from one IP, household, laptop, family etc.

The best thing you can ask if to refund your deposits however it is not guaranteed if they will agree with you. They can deny it and if they do they are right about it because you broke the terms.

on their terms and conditions under "multiple accounts" they mentioned that one account per player is allowed, which means it would be allowed for your husband and you to create one account each but it also mentions on the "multiple accounts" section of their ToS that colluding or teaming up with other people (in your case your husband, as you mentioned on your post when you suggested creating an account under your name in order to bet on a match) to create another account to use in order to bypass restriction(in your case, betting limit) can be considered as "multiple accounting".

here's the rule I mentioned, I quoted it in case you want to read it.

4.9 Only one Stake Account per Player is allowed. Should You attempt or successfully open more than one Stake Account, under Your own name or under any other name, or should You attempt or succeed in using the Website by means of any other person's Stake Account, Stake will be entitled to immediately close all Your Stake Account(s), retain all monies in such Stake Accounts and ban You from future use of the Website.

4.10 Should Stake have reason to believe that You have registered and/or used more than one Stake Account, or colluded with one or more other individuals using a number of different Stake Accounts, Stake shall be entitled to deem such accounts as constituting multiple Stake Accounts, and suspend or close all such Stake Accounts. Stake will also be entitled to retain the funds till the Player proves that he did not attempt to create multiple accounts.

To bad that you realize your mistake made after stake putting some harsh decisions on both of the accounts handle by you and your husband. Then I guess they have the right to take action regarding on the situation. So maybe next time much better if you read the TOS before taking action so that you will not say that you didn't know that you already violate the rules of the casino since they will not honor that reasoning since its bad mistake for a user which can be avoided if both of you just try to spend some time to know their rules.

Just reach up their support and ask politely for possible refund so you can move on to other casino if you or your husband still want to gamble on online casino. Then learn from what happen here so you will not do the same mistake on other casino.

They did not break any rules. There was just suspicion of multi-accounting related to IP/Localization following OP's statement!

 Every each individual has the right to have an account. There has been nothing wrong so far, and submitting ID verification from both of you should easily resolve the issue. It is rather flagging by the system regarding to the the IP/Localization.

That's the reason why we need to know Their terms and conditions before we deposit and also its an obvious that creating multiple account in one IP address or in one device such as phone, laptops etc. the casino will detect that and there's a chance that your account was restricted because of that and some casino include that in Their terms and conditions.  They will restrict that account found that they are logging in the same IP address cause they think that is part of cheating in their casino. And we don't have right to complain about that. Anyways Op can ask to refund the deposited amount but there's a chance that the casino will not grant that.

How much amount your husband bet with that resulted in $12,000 ? This is a big amount and i am sure that you people depsoited/ played with a big amount in order to get this winnings

The gambling sites would not just let us escape on the basis that you made a mistake. In order to register at a new site, better first learn complete details of its terms and conditions including the KYC policy, the usage of VPN and the gambling site stance on multiple accounts. If you do not pay attention to these, you can end up blocking your account and losing whatever balance you have in that site.

What happened is that your husband got limited thanks to winning a lot of money which is very, very common in gambling sites though popular sites like Stake still allow gamblers to withdraw their funds without any issues.

The mistake that y'all made was creating another account instead of withdrawing your funds first. This gave the site an excuse to block your funds.

Sorry about this, and I must say that I've read many similar cases this week and I'm even tired of reading such again. Something should be done about the multiple account reasons that are causing casinos to ban users. If multiple accounts were detected, are they acting/playing the same way? That is what I believe casinos should base their arguments upon and not just block accounts of anyone due to the same IP detected or whatever.

Notwithstanding that it is in their terms and conditions (what most don't read), I've never seen a reasonable reason why a casino would block the accounts that are not playing the same way to suspect cheating. Because it's because they wanted to avoid cheating that they brought about that rule. And for fairness's sake, even at all, such casinos should return the deposit amount back to the customers and not seize it but the profit. They can block the account and warn them never not to play again with them for violation of their terms and conditions after that. I've seen such cases in trading, a legit broker will never take your money to itself, they will only end the cooperation with you and send your money back to you, with you also bearing the inconvenience fees in some cases. This is how I believe it should be done, casinos do not ever have the right to keep your money to itself in my opinion, unless you truly cheat. No wonder if such cases enter into court the judge often side in favour of the complainer and bends/silent the rule of casinos keeping customers money when they can't actually prove a foul play except for the multiple accounts clause which is just written to favour the casino.

As it is, you've learned your lesson. And since you can't beat them this way, my advice to you is just not to repeat the mistake as they are the ones with the power. Try to avoid using the same IP for two accounts, and the same gadgets to be safer. Try a new casino and continue to win. You can try Stake.com, you will not regret it. But please, follow the Ts&Cs and avoid that same mistake.

You should always read the ToS of any casino or whatever site that needs you to deposit and withdraw of funds before you deposit any funds into it. You have gone against the casino's rule, and I don't think the anything can be done because the chance is very slim.

You should take your mind of withdrawing the money because your money is gone. Some gamblers didn't even have a second account, but sometimes when they win big, some casino deprives them from withdrawal saying that they have a second account, and for that reason they will not give them access to withdraw. Yours is very clear, so don't expect any miracle. You can open an account with a different reputable casino to continue gambling, and see if you will be lucky again.

What you did is prohibited in every platform, you can't create multiple accounts using the same IP address, if you do, you will either get banned or restricted and then asked for identity verification.

According to the TOS of Stake, it stated that:

Only one Stake Account per player is allowed. Should you attempt or successfully open more than one Stake Account, under YOUR OWN NAME OR UNDER ANY OTHER NAME.....

I believe that your account was flagged due to a suspicion that you created it under any other name which was probably located under the same IP address of your house. But if there is one thing that they most likely missed, it is that you created this together with your wife which was her account in the first place.

Just to add another question, when you created that new account, were you able to submit KYC documents to prove that you are not the same person? If you submitted the KYC documents of your wife (HUSBAND** EDIT), I really think that they made a genuine mistake here.

No, it is perfectly legit according to the TOS [also as quoted by qwertyup23] to own two accounts one of her and one of her husband, even from the same IP.. the prohibited thing is if the two accounts are serving to a same single person (multi-account). Both serving to the husband for betting!

Just to add another question, when you created that new account, were you able to submit KYC documents to prove that you are not the same person? If you submitted the KYC documents of your wife, I really think that they made a genuine mistake here.
