The memecoin craze has returned in full force, with several meme-themed cryptocurrencies seeing massive gains recently. Leading the pack is PepeCoin (PEPE), which has skyrocketed over 60% in the last 24 hours.

Pepe is a memecoin based on the popular Pepe the Frog meme. It was originally launched in 2013 but gained renewed interest this year as the memecoin market heated up again. The recent price surge has made Pepe one of the top trending coins today, according to CoinMarketCap.

Other memecoins seeing big gains include Wif, FLOKI, SHIBA and Bonk. All doing impressive numbers over the weekend.

The return of memecoin mania also reflects the powerful momentum of hype and virality in crypto. Memecoins often have very enthusiastic online communities that aggressively promote their coin, fueling massive rallies. While memecoin investments are highly risky due to the volatility, the potential for explosive short-term gains is enticing many retail investors.

Lucky are those risk taker who bought pepe when its balls deep. A gain like this is quite bigger than bitcoin, damn I shouldnt have dumped mine before but its okay I know I can hit some profits with other tokens like not the one on memecoins. First of all, misleading title. I believe we all have different kinds of goals and objectives when it comes to investing however I personally will not choose memecoins over bitcoin. Most memecoins often end up becoming dead and if you’re lucky, I doubt it will reach the price of bitcoin today.

However, I still do think it could be a great source of income. I think DOGE will definitely come back to 1 USD. It could happen this year when the entire crypto market is following the bullish movement of bitcoin.

Maybe we need Elon musk's voice to raise Dogecoin again.  But I'm sure Doge can shine again. I see Doge is slowly getting better and I am sure he will become king.

I was a little horrified to notice the new arrival coin. Because coin competition is getting hotter and most new coins just can survive for a while and then disappear. I prefer coins that are old so we can see the history of their curve. This is why I didn't get a moment with Pepe. But I would rather be safe than have a heart attack when something I hope for doesn't come true.

Big gainers indeed but also more volatile. Try getting a closer look, the market price of Bitcoin is quite consistent with the price increase and with meme tokens, there's a huge pump and dump with its value at the moment. Also, there's no assurance that it will be for long which I think taking the profit with those tokens is now advisable thn to wait for its value to be in deep crash. Why do I say this? Aside from hype, what are the other factors which contributes to the demand for meme tokens? There are no utilities for these coins and hype is something which cools down in an instant. I am also not saying this for investors to stay away from those tokens, but for them to be careful and to avoid greed. It is good to know that they are in profit from the price increase which took place yesterday but as we all know, price won't be up for long in any altcoin especially those which are most of the time being manipulated by whales.

also shiba is good pumping, i think big investors of meme coin now got profits 2x-5x.

Well, it has become now the cycle of meme coins, don't you think? I think a lot of people are now starting to see the changes in the flow of money to meme coins and it should've been a great time to buy because of the hype. We still need to be sure on how much you are going to invest per trade depending on what the amount you are trying to do.

While the gains from these altcoins are impressive. There's still a lot of risk that investing into meme coins has. But those gainers and people that have been holding them, congratulations to all of you if you've made a profit and you didn't miss this time of selling. No one will know if this is going to stay for longer and if they'd continue to have these gains. But if you have been in the market, it's not always like this. There are times that they are profitable but after that, you know that they're going to be heavily dumping afterwards as money from the altcoins are going to be moved to Bitcoin next.
This is the cycle motion of the cash flow in the market, after it has come from Bitcoin then it will flow to altcoins and vice versa. So, after the altcoins pumping specifically with the meme coins. It is for sure that most of the retail investors there are going to move their money from here to there so you know what's next. And as we can see right now, Bitcoin is the one taking the spotlight again trying to break the barrier of the past ATH that it has been. If you still own a lot of these meme coins and they're on the top once again and you never sold any of them, good luck on how long you have to hold them again for you to see such prices again that they're having right now as their top. Because no one has the idea if they'd be the same again just as they are right now. But if you learned in the past, you are not going to miss this time of making some profits.

The OP’s question is a little meaningless because any memecoin can fly to the moon on the background of a simple mention or some positive news, or it can perform a rug pull. You can invest in memcoins, but only if they are not yet on hype and have a very low cost or you received them as an airdrop (for example, $WEN).

SHIB is 199.30% this week alone. if i had just seen this to happen a week ago, i would have bought millions of them. it must be a huge profit by now. but Doge finally is taking off. i think more people in the forum are holding doge than SHIB, most of the SHIB users are from social media.

It's not too hard to predict. The marketcap of bitcoin is huge, bitcoin has half of the marketcap of all the crypto. For a coin with a marketcap of 1 trillion dollar to double, investors need to pour more than another trillion. PEPE with a marketcap of 3 billion can easily triple on an investment of 10 billion.
The only reason why bitcoin is more popular is due to its adoption, acceptance and consistency. It's a less risky option and we all know thousands of crypto are going to outperform bitcoin, but the problem is we are not sure which would be it definitely.

As much as I hate meme coins, I will not forget the fact that meme coins are getting ready to get hype right now as we are months away from a potential bull market.

I mean just look at Coingecko right now, and go to categories, and go to meme coins. You will see that almost all of the prices of meme coins right now just went up double digits within the last 7 days. There might be a few that went the opposite, but most of them went up.

With that being said, I expect that many meme coins will be created "AGAIN" out of thin air. Meme coins will only perform when they get hyped. If they don't have the hype, they are just a shitcoin (at least for me). DOGE has been at the top when it comes to meme coin discussion. I mean we are seeing many meme coins being created, but when you talk about meme coins, the coin that comes to our mind first is DOGE. As for the new meme coins that are already at the top 100 or slightly lower, they have their community that supports the project for various reasons. They aren't created to be the next "King of Meme coins" blah blah.

I wonder what coin will Elon Musk will be shilling now that we are nearing the bull market. I might buy some DOGE, hoping that Musk will shill it on Twitter.

OP was just doing a wrong comparison, if you asked why memecoins actually pumped you will see its because of bitcoin pumping. I will agree that yes memecoins are know for there massive pumps but also they are can easily get dumps and anybody you see today buying memecoins they do it as a gamble while the investment into bitcoin is most regarded or done for security purposes. So one can never compare the two together, in fact memecoins can never be put into the category of an investment like bitcoin.

I also expect a lot of pumps to happen around memecoins once again this bull run but this time around I will say a gamble around new ones that have yet to experience any bull run will be better. I am looking for a re entry for coins like Bonk and Pepe. Also there are memecoins on other chains like Solana that are gaining popularity of recent. An example is the dragon inspired tokens there is still a worth token to gamble on. But one thing to newbies is never buy this tokens during there pumps

Not only pepe coin but all coins are now in good condition and the price of market is increased in contrast with previous price. Doge coin is also very high and attain good  increase in its value but still we cannot compared meme coins with that of bitcoin.

Bitcoin has its own benefit and the benefit of bitcoin is very large as the price of bitcoin is also very higher like that of 67k$ which is nearer to the previous ATH of 2021. Some whales have so many funds that they can manipulate those shitcoin that don't have any sort of usecase in the industry. But it is true that some of the meme projects pumped massive amounts, and some of them made 2000% while major meme project also pumped more than 50%. This can be a good sign for the meme community but not for the industry. While this money can be more useful for the industry if it were in some AI, RWA or DeFi project that can generate real money for its community.

There is no doubt or dispute about the growth of these meme coins which has been tremendous but again it depends on the kind of investment one chooses because you never know when the meme coins will drop dead like we have seen in the past. Prolly people are thinking that Dogecoin is going to be back at its former ATH. Look, Bitcoin has been close to its former ATH and most of the altcoins are still far from their ATH. I think that this time, it's going to be the year of bitcoin and mainly focused on it.
While you guys have been profitable with the meme coins, floki, shiba inu, pepe, wif, doge, etc. There have been a bunch of them that have been thrown in the market and traders and retailers are going crazy all over them. While the attention and its span are there, you have to do what you need to do.

That is what you believe OP, everyone has an option and set of criteria.
Indeed, meme coins and some altcoins are more profitable during the bull season (just like this time) compared to Bitcoin and even ETH. That is why some investors prefer to invest in them over Bitcoin. There is nothing wrong with that decision IMO but yes, this is highly risky unless you are doing this several times. But if we consider long-term investing, this should not be our choice because meme coins and these hyped projects will just dump after the surge and less possible for its recovery, most of them have even died.

Let's not compare it with bitcoin at all because one is surviving over decade and half and the one you are praising just available in the market for months so if the coin or token can maintain its value as well as growth for years then you can argue forget bitcoin cause memecoins are the future but for now, meme coins are just in the trend after the NFT craze and it become into the choices among the crypto investors when they feel that crypto bull already kicked in.
