Months ago I read a post that mentions the names of those profiles that is banned based on some illegal posting patterns, and not keeping the forum rules.
I just have a question and I know that with some replies on this thread others people will learn.
My reasons for creating this post is to know if an account is ban and after the same account get unbanned will the Smerits still remain on the same account or it will be removed while the account is dormant?

Today I was roming around the forum then I come across this post https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5144410.0 the post list names of banned profiles and I think many of them have Smerits on it, but I don't know if the Smerits will remain on the account if the profile get unbanned.

Once an account is banned, everything about that account remains the way it was before the ban. You should know that, the account is said to be banned from posting or carrying out any activity. Any account that is banned, can still be unbanned, and that is why the admin, just leave the account the way it is.

The Smerits will still be there in the account after the uplift of the ban.

I don't think the sMerit will be gone or depleted from the account even after the ban is lifted it should remain unaffected.

Why did you ask this? do you have a banned account and planning to take the opportunity for "second chances"?

Why are you concerned what happens with Smerits of banned accounts? I'm sincerely curious why it bothers you.

Something that bothers me is your poor topic title "Just another question." There are suggestions in sticky topics how to make better topic titles and what to avoid. Your topic title doesn't transport any useful details what this topic is about.

There is no point in hoarding sMerit; keeping it yourself does not benefit you, and we reserve the right to decay unused sMerit in the future.

There is always a note, as stated above, that displays on every user's profile whenever they want to give out merit. It doesn't state when and when the smerit will decay. These equally mean that if an account is banned, their Smerit doesn't automatically disappear because, in some ban cases, there is a chance that after appealing, the account can get unbanned and the user can start their usual activities on the forum again. 

I also believe that Smerit's on ban account doesn't decay because there are no rules like that on the forum either. Some cases regarding merit abuse got connected to some old in-active accounts that had Smerit on them for so long, yet it never decayed.

The smerits on a banned account is not lost neither does it decay, the account should be able to spend the smerits if it gets unbanned. I wasn’t expecting this sort of topic from a full member, you’re not a newbie that should be worried about merits. I believe this discussion may be about a concern you might have that there isn’t enough merits being distributed across the forum and it could be because some of the merits are unspendable in the banned accounts? Merit sources are appointed by Theymos to ensure that there is no shortage of merits on the forum.

I don't know why you are interested in knowing if the smerit of a banned account that was unbanned would still be there but you need to know that so far as this forum continues to exist, every information of users here remains intact be it banned account or not. We should just be careful of not breaking any forum rules that would lead to our accounts being banned because once an account is banned temporarily, it has already gotten a negative reputation such that even when it is unbanned, such account activities would be monitored by some users of the forum therefore any further mistakes may lead to a permanent ban.

Being banned from the forum doesn't automatically deduct your Smerit, post or whatever unless - you spent everything you had before your ban.

And since almost everyone is curious to know if you have an alt, you can make an experiment though. like going against the forum rules then get banned and later appeal, as soon as it's done then you would find out if it's true or not. lol just kidding but can still try it out.

Sendable merits can only be used if an account is not banned. You are right that both Merit and Sendable Merit of a banned account will not decay or disappear. It's just sMerit in a banned account will no longer be allowed to send (circulate) more.

Because a banned account can only use the forum in read mode. Can receive PMs but can not send PMs, I recalled some topics discuss about it too.

I think a banned account will have everything he had before when the account was unbanned. As far as I know, forum moderators/administrators might ban their signature space for a while but I've never heard of any smerit being removed from a banned account.

Forum has many merit sources so there is no need to think about the smerit owned by banned accounts because we have a lot of smerit reserves owned by merit sources which will be added every month. What is more important is how to make quality posts so that we get merit shares

I'm likewise as curious as you on the essence of this thread, because if any member's account got banned and eventually got unbanned, then the account owner will then see by him or herself if the smerits in the account is still there or not, unless perhaps if their alt account got banned or they're just inquisitive to know what happens to smerits after unban. I've never thought of this question before and I'm glad that I now know the answer, although I won't like to have the experience.

This is the first thing that came to mind. OP, I can tell you for sure that, since you can find my nickname through your link, nothing happens with merits or smerits. If an account gets unbanned, it returns to the same rank and amount of merit it previously had.

That is just the truth about band account, band account is like a man having money in bank but can't withdraw because it's dormant. Mean while some band can be permanent while some can be temporary all is based on the level violation  can be determined by admin.

Restrictions or band on any account the admin still you you to take caution and may be fast to take away all you benefits unless the band is permanent which I can't state the decision if admin von the smerit weather there is a retriever by them.
