The level of corruption in the executive and legislative arm of Nigeria government is amazing and shameful. The padding of 2024 budget with the sum of 3.7 trillion naira is something I cannot imagine considering the nature of Nigeria economy now, hardship and younger across the country. Nigeria leaders have demonstrated the highest level of corruption and this action shows that they don't the interest of the country at heart if not they would consider what the masses are going through now in the country. Sometime I wonder if Nigeria leaders have conscience and human sympathy. How on earth would a government that is obligated to protect lives and properties of her citizens would proposed to loot 3.7 trillion naira in a country that is at the verge of collapse, a country that 80% of her citizens are leaving in adject poverty with severe hungers.

I'm saddened why Nigerian newbies who perhaps don't have adequate knowledge to start crypto related topics will always come to this board and always be focusing on negative things to say about Nigeria, although we have corrupt politicians, but then which country doesn't have corrupt politicians, it's not like bad leadership is peculiar to Nigeria, alone, we have countries that have worse dictators as leaders, yet their citizens don't make it headlines in this forum. We have a lot of achievements in different areas of our private sectors where individuals are making the country proud, like in the areas of entertainment and entrepreneurship, we have millions of genuine individuals who are very innovative and breaking barriers to achieve excellence and make the country to become greater.
Let these guys also raise topics about the positive energy in Nigeria, to balance this bad impression about the country, so people will not stereotype the country that nothing good can come out of it. I'm not a politician and I don't support their corruption, but I'm just concerned that Nigerian newbies starts too many topics about the negativity in Nigeria, forgetting to atleast balance it with the many positive achievements in the country.

If I were the person who had the right to punish corruptors, I would pass a law on confiscation of assets, even if the constitution had the right or allowed it, I would give them a very terrible punishment, namely the death penalty! Why is punishment so important for perpetrators of corruption? because the perpetrators of corruption lose their common sense of humanity, at other times they need energy and need a helping hand, without their hearts the perpetrators of corruption are greedy for taking rights that are not their rights, of course this is beyond human common sense.

Well Nigeria has such mechanism for punishment but the same corruption that Op is talking about has swallowed those system that ensures corrupt offenders are punished adequately. You have to understand that when they say corruption, it doesn't just end on a single person, it has chains of people around it and that makes it difficult for you to get the traces when it is happening. Talking about confiscation of property, there is a law and rule that politians going into elected office has to declare his assets before going into such office especially for the president, governor and others but whether this is still practiced and followed up is another question The asset declaration is very important for the public to know the worth of their leader while he was going in and to compare his worth when leaving office but the politician often times hids some properties and don't declare them. They keep such properties away from the public.

There's a solution to this my guy, just unite as people of Nigeria and have a common goal of fighting corruption in the country. It's not just the basic unity stuff that would get you nowhere, it's the kind where you all take care of each other and everyone no matter what group or political party they are should criticize or remove those corrupt people. A good example of what I mean is encouraging whistleblowers to talk about the corruption and who's behind it all, the twist is that you will all help protect those whistleblowers, not like a traditional bodyguard but like how each citizen in a neighborhood are taking turns guarding the neighborhood, might be an unhinged example though but think about it, if whistleblowers have a piece of mind, they'd actually be doing the right thing.
Or you could invest in the long-term, teach your children how to not be those politicians, teach them to choose the right people to run the government through voting and teach them to be vocal about their rights in the case that they see that it's being violated by the people that's supposed to upheld and protect those rights, that's the long-term but the most effective one.

It is not something exclusively going on in your country, though I can understand your anger and disappointment on your government and the people behind of the public administration. Here in my country it was revealed last year that one of the ministers who was supposed to be in charge of the production and trading of our oil internationally, actually stole 30 billion dollars from the people's oil treasury. The worst part about this national case from last year is the fact he did not get formally prosecuted or thrown in prison as he was supposed to be. He used his influence within the government to disappear and the current administration has tried never to talk about such case ever again, hoping for people to forget about it and move on.
We are talking about 30 billion United States Dollars being stolen in one of the countries gling through one of theongest economical crises in the history of the continent, a country where there is people who cannot even afford to eat three times a day. And keep in mind this is a country where those in charge say to be socialists and cafe for the struggles of the people.
Only a example of the corruption one can find worldwide, not only in Nigeria.

OP truly is allegation that has not been proven, though many alledge turn out reality I can't State most time they are free from all this because of the nature we found our self by the leaders but let us try and keep away from some news that devastate our nation, making others to see us the most curruption because I have been in this board for Long but has not read most criticism coming from others nation like ours. Let us change our orientation and focus on Bitcoin, although here is for politics and society but the news should be verified one not alledge.

Corruption is increasing because of the leaders in Nigeria. The leaders are only thinking about their own interests and are depriving the common people of all opportunities. The government has attempted to reduce corruption through legislation and enforcement of integrity measures, but with little success. Greed of political leaders ostentatious lifestyles customs and attitudes of people are believed to cause corruption by reducing political responsiveness and thus creating growing frustration and suffering among citizens. Another root cause is tribalism.

Every country that has bad leadership or bad governance will always be addicted to corruption. I am from one of the biggest population countries where corruption was so rampant because of a particular ruling party that we struggled till 2014. After 2014 we got a leader who is a bachelor and does not have a cabinet of ministers related to him or getting perks for him and as a result, we now have become a country that is growing so fast that we a generation that was disregarded are enjoying the fruit of democracy with the current ruling party. Having good leaders was a dream for us until the current ruling party came into power, there may be a lot of negative news about our ruling party but they are all Western media house fabricated. Although the current government is very harsh about crypto which we expect to be solved after June this year. The reason is that we will have the biggest democratic election in 2024 in the world.

It is true that I have seen many topics regarding Nigeria here in this forum and every time I click on it I always see something about corruption and fear for the future. It has made me think how bad could the situation be at Nigeria. It is always good to not to be afraid to criticize your government. As someone who came from a country where most people lived thru toxic optimism, I must say that it’s truly important for the citizens of the country to not sugarcoat anything that is happening. But I agree with you. If there’s anything to showcase about my country, I would also like to highlight that especially if I am posting it in a platform full of different people from different countries.

Mate am very happy that you tried to correct the wrong impression being created the op, in as much as I am against the corrupt practices of our leaders, I will also like anyone creating thread relating to corruption in Nigeria to have authentic and reliable information about what he really want to portray. The newbie are going astray these days, I think newbies should do more research than the old member of the forum, the major discussion in this forum should be money relative threads which what we are all here for, so that we can get more ideas from different users in this forum. Even though you run out of idea I think recently there are many things to discuss including the recent happenings in the digital money world, please I shouldn't be misunderstood but I think it is better this way op.

Why cant you take this to your local board since you are more focused on the incident that happened with one of the government officials, you're the people that voted them into office and be ready to dance to every sound of the music they are playing, this corruption of a thing is what is common to most countries, we are only privileged to be aware of the ones that got exposed and escalated, what about the unseen evils we don't know about and happening everywhere.

I am not Nigerian but I have been following up the news related to Nigeria because there were couple of other similar posts to portray the hardship faced by the citizens of this nation and corruption. This cannot change unless there is an strong opposition who is not corrupt and people should give new faces a chance to govern I mean those who has faced hardship and wants to improve the standard of living, people need to show their power during the polls.

Nigeria is a very poor country. Their politics and administrative system are largely responsible for their poverty. The government system of Nigerians is so bad that the whole country is full of corruption. Every politician and leader is involved in corruption. They drive themselves around in bullet proof cars and think they are safe. But they are not willing to see how much the common people of their country are suffering and how much poverty they are living in. If the government and administrative system of a country is affected by such corruption, it is not unusual for the people of that country to be in such a bad condition. It is really sad and bad to see this population but still I don't think we have anything to do.

This is not a good one from Nigerian politicians, and if it is proven to be true, it is a big shame for them to try to loot such a large sum of money while many people in the country live in poverty and require government assistance. The removal of fuel subsidies, as well as other severe measures put in place by the government to combat corruption in the country, are enough to make the average man depressed and dissatisfied with the new system. It would have been preferable to share this news with the Naija Local Board community; you will receive more responses and citizens' perspectives on this budget paddling. Putting it on the general politics & society board will only increase public backlash. Post it where the people who live with that reality are, and you'll get their honest opinions on the matter.

Just like the way you have stated the level of corruption in Nigeria, there are other countries too that have high level of corruption. I don't think the level of corruption in Nigeria can be compared to other regions especially in the neighboring countries and other continents. You don't need to be surprised about the level of corruption you are seeing in your country, maybe you will have to go to other countries and see for yourself even in the United States.

Sometimes when I see people criticising politicians are just smile because if we should think well the leaders we have didn't gain position by their own power. It is the common people that voted for this corrupt leaders and it is still the same people that will be complaining, the common people still don't know they have the power to choose a leader. When bad leaders are chosen all you see will be corruption, we gave this corrupt leaders the chance to lead us.

I am convinced there remains a lot of room for change through local organizations and civic organizations. This could include community-centered groups that advocate, social media campaigns, and even comes together and protests. There are numerous examples of effective movements that have brought about change by beginning small and expanding over time. For example, in Nigeria, the #EndSARS movement, which began on social media by a group of young people, grew into widespread rallies against brutality by law enforcement. And we can use our opinions to ask for change and make our leaders accountable to greater standards.

And again before Quoting someone wrong you have to come with your proven to convince us not to believe all what he/she had said, you can't just said it verbally for us to believe you.
