Hello. Let's say that I own .25 bitcoin (1/4 slice). I bought it at a low price US$16,000. The price rises to US$64,000. I want to take a portion of my profit, say US$100.00 for example. Question: Does my slice reduce after taking the US$100.00 profit or does it remain at .25 ?

Why would your value stay the same??? You sold the equivalent of $100... So, the total value you'll have left is 0.25 - (0.00146 + fees).
0.00146 is $100 at current preev rate, it might fluctuate in the future

with the current high fees, and at current preev rate, i estimate you'll have about 0,2485 left (given that your 0.25 input is a single input in a non custodial wallet... if it is multiple small inputs, or if you're using a custodial wallet, you'll have even less left)

You have to sell a portion of it and that's why it's going to lessen the 0.25 BTC that you're holding.

But don't mind about the slice that you're going to get from it because you're in profit already.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not taking profits at the moment. I am 'hodling' because I expect the Bitcoin unit price to increase quite a bit. But at the same time, I don't want to acquire more bitcoin at this high price because if the unit price eventually falls below the price that I paid for it, then this higher price purchase will start to detract from my profits. I don't want that at this point. I would prefer to take profit in something stronger than the failing US currency. Just saying. You can comment if you like. Thanks

Though I have many cases of such yet it was replenished after some time. Thee is no need to be much worried you can only be worried when you are not ready to add rather reduce because reduction is only the key to no meeting up to your goal.

If you sell your coin and trade it for fiat money (example usd) then you will only have usd and your will have zero coin.  You cannot just earn usd freely and without giving up your coin.  It is an equivalent trade.  You need to give up something to earn something.  You need to give up usd to buy and get bitcoin.  Likewise, you need to giveup bitcoin to sell and get usd.  An equivalent exchange.

Question: Does my slice reduce after taking the US$100.00 profit or does it remain at .25 ?

Mate, of course it will be reduced. Let’s say you have one whole of cake, that whole cake you bought was for a dollar. Over time, it grew value. So now it is priced at $10. You have made $9 as a profit. If you take one piece, of course it will be reduced. Same as bitcoin. If you now sell this cake, you can get the $10 but you can’t just get your cake and your money both at the same time. Bitcoin is an asset that you can buy or sell.

That's fine.

That's your investment so you have all the might to do whatever you want with it. If you don't feel to take some profits right now then don't do it and just wait for the market to be up and be more than the past price but we don't know when it can be achieved.

And about taking more bitcoins through buying at this rate, if you feel that it's quite expensive, you're free not to continue DCAing as no one forces you to do so.

OMG, I didn't realized they're back.

Not really... examplens made a similar site and registered the domain preev.net. And since the old .com stuck in my head, my now go-to site for current rates is still preev, just the .net instead of the .com Smiley

If you have nothing important to spend your bitcoin then why need to take profit ? but since you have mentioned of no intention to sell then you have got what you need to hear , explained by the first poster .
expecting that you don't need many answers because that is more than enough to understand what ou wanted to get from the community.

I see but the .com does works again and I just didn't realized that it's back and there's also the same one with a different domain.

It's because there's still the influence of having it in plain cash. As they say, cash is king and anything that you want to buy is in cash. But you're right that if there's nothing important to spend then why waste that bits or satoshis that you're holding into them.

See.  Wink

I was surprised when you've mentioned it but you're visiting the other domain. But the one that I've checked is with the .com domain.

Anyway, good things comes into this bull run and some are coming back for real.
