If I may ask, why did you decide to convert your bitcoins to altcoin? Though it's non of my business , but you shouldn't make a rash decision, just because of the downward movement of Bitcoins price as it was expected already.

Well, to answer you question, bitstamp like every other exchanges has a trading section. All you have to do is to locate it and then find the convert section too under trading. After that, you select the pair you are converting to and from. For you case, it's btc/eth. select the amount you want to convert. And then click on convert. It will initiate the conversion which give you eth in return. you can now transfer your eth to your meta mask wallet by clicking on withdraw. I guess you know how to input an address from there.

You can use Spot Trading to sell your Bitcoin to ETH or your Bitcoin to USDT/USDC and use stable coin to buy ETH. Doing two trading rounds will cost you more trading fee.

Some exchanges have feature for Conversion of cryptocurrency but be careful with Conversion feature and you must check that between Trading and Convert, what will be best for you in trading fee and final amount of ETH you will get.

Make sure you create your ETH wallet, back up and test your wallet back up before funding it by withdrawing your ETH from your exchange account.

Unlike every other altcoins, Ethereum has  even a serious follower of Bitcoin. It has its price sticked to that of Bitcoin so whatever likely happen to the price of Bitcoin, Ethereum will definitely receive it's share of it, be it bull or bear. So I don't see any reason why you'll love to convert from Bitcoin to Ethereum when they are both experiencing the same market movement. However it's your choice to make, and you might have a more better reason for the convention, so it all up to you to make your decisions, since you'll be the one to bear the risk.
Yes you are right that mate it's his decision that he gonna convert his BTC to an altcoin but still it's good enough cause w walk know that ETH is one of the best altcoins. But for me I'm not gonna convert my BTC to Eth as we all know that the price of ETH varry the price of Bitcoin so when the price of Bitcoin weill decrease then a big chance  that the price of ETH will decrease too. But still in his decision maybe he is lucky enough and when he convert his Bitcoin to ETH then in a few months he got a good prfits.

Not sure what this question has to do with Makus' reply, but you can indirectly do so by using Wrapped Bitcoin(wBTC). It's like a bitcoin IOU so while you can use it if you want to, I personally don't recommend holding WBTC for long amounts of time.

Convert Bitcoin to Wrapped tokens on different chains is risky. Those tokens can lose pegs to Bitcoin anytime.

Many Wrapped tokens to pick for conversion through swap.

My opinion is like yours, I don't recommend to swap Bitcoin to Wrapped tokens and hold those tokens a long time because it is not safe.

I highly suggest to postpone you're plan since the gas fee's during this time is high, why not try it to binance chain and hold bnb instead, but if you really want to, convert it first to eth and send it to metamask eth network make sure the address is correct before sending or else you might lose your funds.

If I may ask, why did you decide to convert your bitcoins to altcoin? Though it's non of my business , but you shouldn't make a rash decision, just because of the downward movement of Bitcoins price as it was expected already.

It can be part of our business for now since OP himself is requesting for our support in that and i don't think he have an idea on what is at stake for doing that, now to add on what you have already contributed to him, he should also consider the transaction fee on using Ethereum and sending through the network to be more higher than what he stand to pay in bitcoin network, then its something wrong to exchange your bitcoin to altcoin when you're not having a specific important reason for doing that, bitcoin will always maintain the top notched over any other cryptocurrency regardless of the market situation.

Well I will advice you hold on to it, bitcoin still have the potential to increase, you shouldn't be deceived by the downfall of the price of bitcoin. However for the fact that bitcoin has dropped from it current value doesn't mean that is not going to rise up again, you just need to be patient for some time, remember bitcoin still remains the father of all cryptocurrency regardless to the downfall of the price of bitcoin.

Yeah, worst is, it's a fixed withdrawal fee from an exchange not just from recommendation fee of individual's transaction. Idk how much the fixed fee in bitstamp knowing it's an exchange it should be high too.
Well, holding in ETH has more perks than BNB, ETH soar much higher %% unlike BNB this time, so it's more reasonable to have them.

We don't know if OP still holds any other Bitcoin in his other wallets; perhaps the Bitcoin he converted on the Bitstamp platform is just a small amount for exploration. Who knows, maybe he's just experimenting in the world of cryptocurrency and seeking other potential opportunities aside from Bitcoin. That's part of the journey here in crypto. It doesn't necessarily mean he's immediately dismayed by the Bitcoin price drop from the new ATH.

Some exchanges have been doing exceptionally good when it comes to cryptocurrency and and listing promising coins for investors and traders. ETH is quite different from BTC despite the similar pumps and dumps of the exact same projects. The steps offered have provided hints for OP to implement, perhapes he has figured out a way to do it, meaning problem is finally solved. We're here for each other and always making sure we provide for each other, not minding the circumstances we've found ourselves in the system.

Even if we will tell him that it's quite expensive for the fees. It seems that the conversion was already done. Well, good luck to OP to whatever plans he's got.

To each their own but I'd like to hold ETH than BNB.

Anyway, @OP if you've done this successfully and you've got no more any follow up questions. The purpose of this thread is done and you may now lock it.

Wbtc is not bitcoin and to me is altcoin so whatever happens to that wallet then the user is at a higher risk since bitcoin is converted to wbtc.
For op, in my opinion converting your bitcoin to ethereum is your decision though we can't detect for you what to do with your funds but I will advise just to hold bitcoin tight considering the market condition currently it might be good your just hold BTC it's more safer than holding altcoin both in terms of scammers wanting to scam you.

I have some BTC on Bitstamp and I want to convert it to ETH and send it to my MetaMask wallet. How best to do so? thanks

The best way is to exchange your Bitcoin for ETH in this section https://www.bitstamp.net/trade/ethbtc/ and then withdraw the ETH to the Metamask wallet that you provided previously. I think just that simple is the best thing for you to do, but if you want a better option than the best, I wouldn't even choose that option at this point because exchanging Bitcoin for ETH is something I very rarely do so far. But you don't need to follow my heart other than the options I mentioned are only to help you in exchanging Bitcoin to ETH on Bitstamp.
