Of course there is no fun in losing. Nobody likes to lose even there is no money attached. Gambling is a game of uncertainty and that moment of uncertainty is what excites me. Answering to the question in the OP and replying to this, I think that the key is the fun in the moment before you know the result. Winning is of course a cause of joy, but the dopamine released in the brain when you are waiting for the outcome is the real source of fun IMO, and which makes it worth suffering when you lose.

Betting in excess is very much risky and dangerous although gambling is said to be risky and dangerous but that does not mean one should blindly gamble ignorantly to the point of gambling excessively.
