Hi mates,

I do have several wallets and i would like to add a Ledger to the collection too. I know all the debate with the Ledger Recovery thing and i think that is a totally irresponsible way to sign away your seed.

BUT, i do like the fact that you can connect Ledger with 1Inch directly on IOS. So now i want to ask you what you think of the following thing i want to do:

1. I get the Ledger and connect it to Ledger Live to install the ETH app (mainly i would use to store USDC and swap with WBTC on Arbitrum network, just like trading but not on CEX).

2. Disconnect from Live and ONLY AFTER create a Passphrase -> i do hope that will keep the new wallet hidden EVEN IF they find out my seed for example, right??

3. Use the Passphrase wallet with the 1inch app with Bluetooth on my iPhone, or with other Wallets if possible (?)

In your opinion and from what you mostly know maybe being more experienced in HW wallets, would that be a safe practice?

Thanks in advance!

BIP39 Passphrase is also known as the 13th/25th word, which is encrypted inside the device, Ledger confirmed that they do not copy the passphrase, but Ledger team lied several times, so since it is encrypted alongside with 12th word, it is best to assume that it is will be sent to the 3rd party servers.

Using a memorable Passphrase does not give you a good entropy and therefore you should not feel safe if your wallet is hacked.

@Yamane_Keto made a good point, but I just wanted to say adding multiple things to the equation will never be a safe practice [in other words, you'd be increasing the attack surface]!

BTW, you might want to read the following thread concerning the subject field: Ledger Nano X Circus (Battery, Recover and more)

Since you already know about Ledger Recovery, I would also like to point out one of the main threads[1] were we, as a community, discussed the issues that we saw regarding Ledger Recovery, a service that was launched by Ledger almost 1 year ago.

Nothing should be consider safe enough with ledger devices, and there were some cases of people losing their coins after they connected ledger with metamask wallet and gave permissions, even if ledger was not connected physically anymore.

There are plenty of open source alternatives for ledger devices:
