I’m a frequent traveler backpack-style and am visiting Indonesia for the first time, just arriving in Jakarta today. What’s a better way to know a country than asking for advice from locals? I might just try!

I know that Indonesian people are very friendly (already proven today), so maybe someone here is happy to give me some tips for things to do and see (also places to visit thinking beach/nature/chilling other than Bali, which I already plan to visit).

Bali is one of the number one tourist destinations that foreign statesmen always go to because of its beautiful beaches and atmosphere. But apart from that, Indonesia is not just Bali. There are still many tourist attractions in Indonesia besides Bali that are quite beautiful and amazing that you should go to. You should try to find tourist attractions other than Bali by searching on social media. Indonesia has many places of natural beauty. You have to go to Sukabumi, West Java to visit the beach/sea in Palabuhan Ratu. Palabuhan Ratu is not just about the beautiful beaches and sea, but in Palabuhan Ratu you can find other beauties such as several waterfalls in Palabuhan Ratu, cool mountains and friendly and harmonious people or residents. Of course they really welcome the arrival of tourists in their area. and in Sukabumi Masah there are places you have to go, such as Ujung Genteng Beach, Sawarna Beach and several waterfalls/waterfalls that will amaze you with their beauty and of course the tourist attractions are very safe and comfortable to visit. You must immediately go to tourist attractions in Indonesia apart from Bali. You can find out about beautiful tourist attractions in Indonesia via the internet. In essence, for a trip or holiday you have to go not only to Bali but also Sukabumi, Bandung, Pangandaran, Jogjakarta, Labuan Bajo. I won't just talk about the goodness, but I will share some of the things you might face. Indonesian people are known to be pleasant and friendly towards everyone, including foreigners they have just met. However, you still have to be careful and don't trust everyone easily because I am sure that in almost every country there will be people with bad intentions who take advantage of our ignorance.

On average, some regions in Indonesia highly uphold their traditional norms but that doesn't mean they will be stiffened to the situations and conditions that don't suit their traditions because usually, they will have higher tolerance to foreign tourists.

Besides Bali, I recommend you to visit Lombok, Raja Ampat, and Labuan Bajo. I hope you can gain new experiences and have a lot of fun in Indonesia.

Many people come to Yogyakarta and then travel east by land to Bali if you haven't booked a flight yet. You can then visit Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple, etc. in Yogyakarta along with Mt. Bromo, Ijen Crater, etc. on your way to Ketapang Harbour. I have my bros working in the hostel & tour company if you need a consultant you can PM me, and I'll connect you to him.

Welcome to Indonesia, I hope that while you are in Indonesia your days will be quite enjoyable because Bali is already famous throughout the world for its tourist attractions. However, apart from Lombok, Raja Ampat and Labuan Bajo as suggested by @abhiseshakana, I also have one suggestion which might be no less interesting for you to visit this year. That place is Kilometer 0 Indonesia which is located in Sabang (the tip of Indonesia which is located at the tip of the island of Sumatra), and once again I hope your days can be quite enjoyable while you are in Indonesia @TryNinja.

1. The hot weather will definitely be a bit annoying for tourists from non-tropical region, so you should always drink lots of water and always bring a sunblock.
2. For some tourists who have just arrived in Indonesia, many types of local food are not friendly to the stomach because they are not used to it.
Dont forget to bring medicine for gastric, diarrhea and anti-mosquito lotion when traveling to rural areas, forests, etc to prevent malaria.
3. Always be alert and dont immediately trust someone, its better to use a guide service so you can visit many places and not waste time on your holiday.
4. When a trader comes to you and offers an item or service, and you want to buy it - always ask for the price first and ask for a better price.
5. When exchanging money it is recommended that you always count it again before leaving the place.
6. Dont hesitate to ask again in this thread if you need information or help during your holiday in Indonesia.
