With the Candidates happening this April 03-22 this year, I think it is imperative to create a NEW thread to discuss our predictions on who will claim the crown and be the Classical World Chess Champion this 2024.

There are recent discussions and predictions on who would win this year's candidates. So according to Magnus Carlsen, he predicted and created a tier list on who would perform best or at least have a chance on claiming the crown, which are as follows:

I do agree with the tier list that Magnus as he provided insight on why he chose those GMs regarding their certain tier. I would definitely love to see Fabi claiming the victory this year but I have a strong feeling that Hikaru would go all out.

How about you guys, who do you think would win this year's Candidates and fight Ding Liren for the crown?

So the Grenke Chess Classic just finished and Magnus was able to bag the win yet again for the third time now.1 What are your thoughts on the match?

I was surprised to see him lost against Rapport during the first rounds when he blundered a piece on the end game. Probably the time got the best of him (which is ironic) and he fell for the tactic that Rapport setup.

On his last match vs Rapport again, you can see the beauty on his end game skills where he secured a victory. Though that may be the case, I still applaud for Rapport since he rarely plays boring chess- his opening and middle game were very fun to watch as he truly wants chaos on the board as soon as possible.

According to a post on Twitter2, with Magnus securing the win on Grenke Chess Classic, this his is sixth (6th) consecutive tournament victories already which is such phenomenal dominance!

So there we have it! The result of the FIDE Candidates Chess Tournament 2024 has come to an end and we have Gukesh Dommaraju as our winner! He will now face Ding Liren for a chance to claim the WCC 2024 Title though the date for their match has not yet been decided.

What are your thoughts on the whole tournament? The game between Nepo and Fabi was very intense to watch given that the evaluation bar kept going out of control especially on the last few minutes of their match. Unfortunately, Fabi was not able to convert his advantage to a win which resulted to a draw game between them. Had Fabi won the match, then a tiebreaker would happen between him and Gukesh.

I guess lots of chess commentaries did not expect Gukesh to win this year's candidates as the persons favored to win this were Hikaru, Nepo, or Fabi. However, this is what makes chess amazing- you can really expect the unexpected!

There are actually lots of tournaments being held and let us discuss the most recent tournament in which it sparked lots of debates:

Huge congratulations for Alireza Firouzja for winning the Champions Chess Tour 20241 beating Magnus Carlsen on two (2) sets on the Grand Final! I really thought Magnus would take home the bacon especially on the first set where he was one (1) move from winning the game. Unfortunately, he blundered a move and it costed him the game which resulted to Alireza reseting the whole match. After the first match, Alireza was also able to win ultimately winning him the tournament.

Another tournament is the 2024 Casablanca Chess Day.2 During the first day, Magnus was able to defeat both Hikaru Nakamura and the legendary Viswanathan Anand and ended with a score of 2.5/3. I do think Magnus will continue to be this consistent as he will be hungry for revenge for his defeat on his last tournament!
