Seed phrase backup against natural disaster areas

It is important to backup your seed phrase but some people said the backup is not good online but which is true because we have seen how hackers was able to see some people seed phrase online and steal their coins. But I have been thinking recently that how can people in countries with natural disaster be able to backup their seed phrase offline? An example is the flooding that occured in Pakistan like 2 or 3 years ago that submerged 1/3 of the country under water. Even if you backup your seed phrase offline in many locations, it is possible that kind of flood can lead to permanent loss of your offline seed phrase.

I'm in a country where every year we have natural disasters the worst are typhoons and floods, our country recorded one of the worst typhoons in modern history and I have a friend who experienced this and when I asked him if he had saved his seed phrase he told me yes because he has a photographic memory and he had memorized his 12 words seed phrase before that worst flood hit their region.

But not everyone has a photographic memory so they have to think of ways to store their seed phrase, I have mine stored in hardware and that hardware is stored in a safe, I wish I also had that photographic memory so I can keep store my seed phrase, but it's still better to have it stored in a place you think will be safe in case of national disasters.

Those who use or have heard of airgapped hardware wallets know what a SeedQR is. The standard backup method is, of course, on paper, but Stamp Seed has now created a titanium plate for SeedQRs.

It's an interesting concept. I just wonder what would happen if the stamped and finished plate would be damaged by a high temperature fire or strong acid, and would camera's still be able to recover the keys from the code. I leave this to Jameson Lopp to test.

this is what i do now. i store several parts of my seed phrases in 3 online storage platforms, and i put a number on each part to prevent confusion when putting them together. i think this is one safe way to store your seed phrases and it's much easier than having to write them down on paper and store them somewhere else.

As long as it is online, you can be hacked and your assets will be stolen by the attacker, what online storage platforms are you talking about, and are these storage platforms in the same device. If you are putting together your own pattern of security, then mind you that you are inviting trouble, there is no safer way than writing down your seed phrase on paper or carving it on a steel plate.

If that is the case I believe it is better to store your seep phrase online somehow since any kind of offline thing like writing it on a book, metal engrave thing, etc. would not gonna be useful at this time, I mean I've seen flooding, find and I don't know if you're going to save any physical things if you just watch what happened on Japan when there was an earthquake and tsunami everything was getting washout so any physical thing as a backup would not work, so an online thing would be the best option, even though it is kindly vulnerable so hacking, I believed if you are going to secure your account, etc. you could make it work for sure, I've done it in the past and I didn't really encounter any issue as long as you don't do shady stuff, and you have knowledge on it there was a very low chance that hacker would get a chance to hack you.

Clever I guess, it would work on me for sure it's a good idea for sure, But on something like a natural disaster like a tsunami, you would easily lose thing pencil including your seed phrase. One thing that I could think of instead of doing online stuff is that is for sure the best option was just to memorize your seed phrase I mean that is possible for sure, and no one is going to steal that from you unless you actually forget it, maybe memorize it and then do backup as well.

It doesn't seem entirely reasonable to store the security system seed phase written on paper by carving inside a wooden pencil. This security system will not provide your backup at all in case you consider a natural disaster area. If for any reason your device is damaged or lost or your device backup is lost in a natural disaster then you cannot recover your lost seed phase through this system.

If I live in a place where it is prone to flood then I would make a backup of my seed phrase online but before that, the seed phrase should be encrypted first before saving it online which I tried already and also have a backup of my seed phrase stored in my portable SSD which I saved without connecting to the internet. I still have my old computer which is not used many times and if ever I use my PC then it is for offline games and saving backup only and it is also not connected to the internet for many years already. Well, I also have backup of my seed phrase that is printed at my home (of course, no internet connection for safety procedure) and then I laminate the paper using the school's laminate machine with my brother's help since he is an instructor there.

In preparation for natural disaster it would be wise to encrypt the message holding   Seed phrase with the hardware pgp key, convert encoded message into HEX format, split it to a few part, so that each part were  not bigger  than 80 bytes and save all those parts in blockchain, using OP_RETURN. The hardware pgp key (which is in fact the small peace of plastic) , that would  be used for pgp blobs decryption  could be easily attached to the prepper's body, let's say, by using adhesive film.

In fact any blockchain that allows  OP_RETURN can be used, even Dogecoin one. And would cost  you almost nothing in this case.

However, one major  problem remains - to  survive  a natural disaster (if any).

I know there are some product in the market that could help us safeguard our seed phrases against natural disaster and that is why we ought to look for one to use for backups. Although there are different types of natural disaster which I think it would not safe from losing our entire funds due to lose of wallet seed phrase. If you are living in a country where natural disasters happen regularly, before you back up your seed phrase or private key, you have to do your research to know the places in your country where natural disasters usually happen so that you will not back up your seed phrase or private key in those places. When you are backing up your seed phrase or private key, back it up on a flash drive and keep it in different locations known to you so that when you lose access to anyone, you will be left with plenty of options if you want to access your seed phrase or private key to get access to your wallet.

Backing up your seed phrase in Gmail could have been a good idea. Even though there was a natural disaster and you lost your phone, you could easily get access to your seed phrase because you stored it online. But because of malware, it is not good to back up your seed phrase in Gmail because if your computer is affected by malware, someone else can get access to your Gmail and also have access to your seed phrase.

Storing it online maybe with phone or a laptop is also risky because these gadgets can be stolen,  wherever it is stored online can also be hacked that is why storing seed phrase online,  phone , or the computer is not advisable. Right now we are talking about natural disasters, these are occurrence that are not certain if it will even occur.  I still consider writing seed phrase on a note and store in the best and safe place is the best way to store seed phrase.  When it is stored offline in a safe place that no one can have access to it, it will surely remain their but in this present time Internet is not safe anymore because hackers are everywhere trying to break into people's privacy to get what they want.

Online storage might be convenient but it's not recommendable. Having your seed phrase on your mobile phone, laptop, email and cloud storage are not safe. A hacker can remotely deploy a malware and steal it. The safest method of storing the seed phrase is offline, write it down on a clean sheet of paper or use a cryptosteel and keep it somewhere very safe. Even when your device is spoilt, lost or stolen, you can always import the seed phrase into a new device and access your funds.
