I want to know from the forum.

Coinbase.com is not a noncustodial wallet but a custodial wallet. But there is a noncustodial wallet that Coinbase also has but which I can not also recommend anyone.

For small amount, you can use Electrum or Sparrow.

For big amount, you can use Passport or Trezor. If you have an old laptop that you are no more using, you can use it to setup airgapped device and have cold wallet on it.

Feel free to do your own research or are you used to spoon feeding? This thread may help you for comparison of software wallets:
22 Bitcoin Software Wallets, compared feature by feature

I would recommend early to consider using a hardware wallet as with proper usage of those, you're way more secure than with a software wallet alone, especially when it is a hot wallet, connected online to the internet.

And for hardware wallets there's a similar comparison thread:
55 Hardware Wallets, compared feature by feature

I'm sure you'll be overwhelmed, ask your questions in the appropriate sections.

She suggested for you to use a custodial wallet? She should have just kept her mouth shut. Because there is no difference between the coinbase wallet and the bank.
You should use a non-custodial wallet rather than a coinbase wallet which is a centralized exchange and they have control over your bitcoin assets just as the bank has control over your money and can freeze your account at any time they like for whatever reason they choose to.

A non-custodial wallet I would suggest to heal to use is the electron wallet read all about it here- https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=98.0

You should learn to keep your bitcoin investments private, you already told your bank (an institution which is known to be anti-bitcoin) that you plan on stacking bitcoin instead of saving money with them. It’s expected that they would discourage you from investing in bitcoin. Luckily you met a banker who is also a bitcoin enthusiast so you did not have much trouble there. As you invest in bitcoin, stay updated on the latest developments in your country’s cryptocurrency laws.

As for choosing a good wallet, I recommend Electrum and Blue wallet for Bitcoin hodlings and Unstoppable for holding altcoins. Coinbase is a centralized platform and do not give users access to their private keys. That’s to say that Coinbase has full control of your coins and can withhold withdrawal at any time.

Don't use Coinbase wallet, it's a closed source wallet owned by Coinbase exchange. I'd suggest you use open source wallets like Electrum or Bluewallet for storing your Bitcoin.

Also, it's kind of showy for you to tell the bank cashier that you wanted withdraw your money to invest in Bitcoin and that's bad. Some persons have gotten themselves rubbed or even killed because they were too loud with their crypto investment.

When we invest in bitcoins we need to make sure in which wallet we store those bitcoins. Non-custodial wallets are the most accepted for storing Bitcoin investments. Because non-custodial wallets have full access to the user. However, the access to Custodial wallets is not fully with the user, which makes those wallets more likely to be hacked. So OP I tell you since you are told to use Coinbase wallet you should avoid using that wallet because Coinbase is a custodial wallet. I think there is no difference between a Coinbase wallet and a bank as both will have access to others.

So OP if you want to keep your invested bitcoin safe then we all recommend you to use noncustodial wallet.

As a non-custodial wallet, you can use the following wallets or use them as per your convenience.
1. Hardware wallet.
2. Treasure Wallet.
3. Exodus Wallet.
4. Ledger Wallet.

Short answer: If you have at least $400 worth of crypto minimum, you 100% need a hardware wallet; it's not even debatable just grab a Ledger or Trezor (or ColdCard if you're a Bitcoin-only kind of person).

Long answer: https://chainsec.io/wallets

Electrum, Bluewallet for small amount.
Trezor, BitBox for big amount.

As a non-custodial wallet, you can use the following wallets or use them as per your convenience.
1. Hardware wallet.
2. Treasure Wallet.
3. Exodus Wallet.
4. Ledger Wallet.
1. If you mention Hardware wallet, it means you already mentioned every hardware wallets.

2. Did you mean Trezor instead of Treasure?

3. Exodus is closed source, not recommended.

4. Ledger previously had a problem about data breached and recently they're share users' encrypted seed phrase to third party which most people don't like it.

I think for beginners maybe coinbase is a good choice. That's because the user interface is designed to be easier to navigate, with a simple three-tab layout and clearly identifiable functions. And there's multi-signature and two-factor authentication support, perhaps more beginner-friendly.

But my advice is that if you want to store large amounts of bitcoin and want it to be safer, it is better to use a hardware wallet. You can avoid the risk of theft or losing the private key even if the physical device is also lost or stolen, as long as you can save the seed phrases you can buy a new physical wallet and restore the wallet. Even though it has a slightly complicated way of working, the price is quite expensive, limited access and physical vulnerability, I don't think it is a problem.

The cashier sure gave her candid opinion on what she thinks she knows best and I would not blame anyone who believes what she says simply because she is working in a financial sector and should be able to know better than since the banks are fighting hard to benefit from crypto currency as it is growing.

A non custodial wallet is definitely the best kind of wallet to use and am sure electrum, ledger, blue wallet of which I have seen good people use, would do much good in the long run and will be safer and more discreet to maintain.

Start with Electrum and you're already fine. And the next thing that you'll do is on how to keep your seeds safe and remember that you don't give it to anyone and even your relatives. Only you should those seeds because that will serve as your password for your bank account(wallet) just for the sake of easier understanding and logic. Well, I remember that when I've asked the teller on the bank if she knew about Bitcoin but then they're not too approachable at all. They just take your slip and dispense your money and all good. LOL

This is a good example of how much the people who deal with money every day like that cashier know about bitcoin. At first she asked you if you feel pressured -of course, by inflation that steals from me every day! Then she told you to use a centralized wallet... In other words she said that if you really want to abandon fiat money at least allow someone to profit from your choice ad control your money. Cheesy
Why didn't you get any interest on your money in the bank? Usually they pay at least 2% a year.

She also asked if I felt pressured to do this and showed me her wallet on her phone. She suggested that I use coinbase wallet.  Which wallet may I use, please? I want to know from the forum.
It’s funny that the cashier suggested that you use a centralized wallet. She obviously doesn’t know any better, good thing you’re a member of this forum and can verify information about bitcoin here. Coinbase, Binance are centralized platforms you can use to trade crypto, they are not to be used as a means of storage for your coins.

The fact is that the woman herself doesn't know much about Bitcoin, or she probably is not even holding any serious fraction of Bitcoin. If she is really knowledgeable about Bitcoin, then she should be aware that security is the paramount thing about Bitcoin investment, and keeping her Bitcoin in a custodial wallet is far from being security conscious.

@Charles- Tim has already listed a very recommendable wallet for you to store your bitcoin.

Normally, the annual percentage yield of banks stinks; the maximum interest that I have seen banks in my country offer to customers for their savings is just 16% per year, which is far better than the profit you will make if you have invested in Bitcoin. For example, if you decide to invest $1000 in the bank and your interest per annum is 16% (some banks even offer 10%), which is $160, in 4 years you will have received $640 in interest. With the current price of Bitcoin at the time of writing this comment, $1000 is worth about 0.0146 Bitcoin. In the next Bitcoin halving (2028), the price of Bitcoin would go above $150k or $200k, which means your 0.0146 BTC can be worth more than $2500. Is that not far better than saving in the bank for four years with just 40% - 64% interest, meanwhile Bitcoin can offer up to 120% interest  Shocked

I went to the bank to take out some cash because I have been using my business account for a while and there hasn't been any interest added to it in years. I was curious to hear the cashier's reaction when I told her that I was going to invest in bitcoin rather than keep my money in the bank. She said, "Young man, what do you know about bitcoin? I hope you're doing the right things." She also asked if I felt pressured to do this and showed me her wallet on her phone. She suggested that I use coinbase wallet.  Which wallet may I use, please? I want to know from the forum.

The fact that a bank's cashier is into Bitcoin caught my attention more than your question, lol.  Grin

While reading your post, I thought I might read that the cashier asked you to stay away from Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies because they are a scam and you will lose your money, but a sudden change of events caught my attention when I read that she suggested a wallet that you should use even though she probably doesn't have much knowledge about Bitcoin herself considering she is using a custodial wallet herself so far.

Coinbase wallet isn't completely secure because it doesn't allow you to have your private keys and seed phrase and it isn't non-custodial or open-source. You should use a wallet that is non-custodial and open-source as they are more secure. Better if you can get your hands on a hardware wallet as suggested by other members.

One suggestion: You are not supposed to discuss that you are involved in cryptocurrencies and make transactions or investments in them with bank officials if your country isn't crypto-friendly, they can make an issue out of this, cease your account, and hold your funds.

If you are looking for a wallet that is free or you don't want to spend money to buy trezor for example then I suggest you use electrum and it's also open source. Make sure you keep the seed phrase safe and secured because you will need it to access the wallet. Well, if you want to own big amount of bitcoin then you should just buy trezor. I agree with others that you shouldn't talk about investments in crypto if your country banned crypto but if it's not then you shouldn't still talk about it as you might get targeted and take your funds

The cashier is amazing because she practices the act of not forcing someone to do what they don’t want to do. That is the reason why she asked you before showing you her investment. There is still more to consider before you jump to conclusions, because it is not just by asking for other people's suggestions on what wallet to use. The main question here is: What do you know about bitcoin? Because if  though you know more about bitcoin, you will not come here asking for the wallet to start up with. I didn’t say that what you did was bad.! No, asking questions is the only way to succeed in your endeavours.

But sincerely, you need to have more knowledge about bitcoin investment and know that there are some things that you need to keep secret, like your seed phase and also the amount you invest, because not everyone wants to see you succeed, so have it in mind that before concluding on the wallet to start with, you should have some knowledge about the inventment and how it works most especially you are supposed to invest the funds you can afford to lose because you mentioned that the money is for your business.

I doubt she doesn’t know what she is saying, she works in a bank which is a centralized entity they definitely believe that all entities like this are the safest place to have your money in, it will have been a lot awkward if she had actually suggested the use of a reputable non custodial wallet.

She also asked if I felt pressured to do this and showed me her wallet on her phone. She suggested that I use coinbase wallet.  Which wallet may I use, please? I want to know from the forum.

I will suggest you go through this thoroughly not that you shouldn’t invest into bitcoin but rather you should invest something within the range of an amount you could hold for a very long term. If you had heard about bitcoin increase in price and that’s why you picked up the idea I will say this is a rusty journey that demands patience’s. So don’t store all your money in bitcoin but rather have some in fiat for daily transactions
