There is an endless amount of phishing sites pretending to be a legitimate project doing an airdrop. Many of them are advertising on major websites like Twitter because they have such low standards, that they will accept money from scammers and even allow them to purchase a verification badge for their profile.

There are even ads like these, which manage to spoof the Coingecko domain underneath the thumbnail, but it’s really a redirect to a phishing site.

Users should always be cautious and never approve any requests made to their wallet when visiting these websites. Getting phished by a fake airdrop has cost even some high profile crypto personalities millions of dollars in stolen funds.

A new wallet should always be used for airdropping. If you use the wallet you already use for airdrop and connect your wallet to all those airdrop campaigns after airdrop, you may lose your money. Since opening a wallet is not a difficult task and no money is required to open a wallet, opening a new wallet and joining the air drop campaign with that wallet is the best decision in my opinion. Better to have a separate wallet for everything as it reduces the risk a lot. If you keep all your money in the same account, if you accidentally forget the password of that money or fall into the trap of fraudsters, if you share your wallet information with fraudsters, then you will lose all the money at the same time. So I think there is no need to take such risk when you use new wallet to work on all these campaigns.

Crypto campaigns should be popular and we must do what's right if we
We should learn vastly how the market operates and enrolled in communities that will become safer for us other than taking crucial risks. There's more risks in the space, they arises when we don't have the appropriate method or approach, just moving around without conference of the entire space. We can be losing and also not hold unto the solid strategies. It's clearly preferably to import new wallet for fresh airdrop inother to avoid complications.

Don't (never) import wallet mnemonic seed from your current wallet like Metamask wallet to a new web wallet like Bitget, Phantom, OKX. Some wallets have that import feature for you BUT NEVER choose Import.

If a new web wallet is bad, has back door, you can lose your money.

I think this is a bit paranoid imo.

It is not, in fact, there are lots of cases where a person losses his funds on his web wallet because he carelessly inputs his mnemonic seeds or private key to import our wallet.  Even linking our web-wallet that authorize the site to access, modify or do an activity to our web-wallet is dangerous since we never know if they have that ill-intention towards our funds.

Quote
Every web wallet is basically the same, and those popular wallets do not have backdoors, this is very unlikely.

Indeed reputable wallets tend to have no backdoors but in this case @OP is talking about new sites that requires a person to link his web wallet. But I would say not all web-wallet are the same because there are some wallet that were released with malicious intent.

Quote
Anyway  nobody should hold more than a few dollars in any web wallet.

That should be the case but many of us are too lazy to move huge amounts of fund to offline storage especially when a person is active in trading on swap platforms. So it does not hurt to be reminded to take more precautionary steps in dealing with new websites that requires linking our webwallet.

Quote
I have a wallet which I use the same seed in  metamask and another wallet in different devices. This is not a big deal imo.

It won't be a big deal until one finds his wallet emptied by a hacker.  It does not hurt to be more careful when dealing with new websites that require us to link our web wallet to their site, IMO.

Most definitely it's very unsafe to use the same wallet where you store your assets to source for airdrops because thst could be risky and you exposing your wallet to potential danger our there, because some of the web wallet like stated by OP could have potential risk of been hacked and you loose your funds, you don't even have ro transfer your money from your current wallet to another to enable you use thst one, just creat a new wallet and use the new one allowing your old wallet to still hold your assets without you having to bother much about the security of your asset especially if you have your seed phrase safely stored elsewhere which shouldn't be online too.

Wallet security should always be your priority regardless of what you aim to achieve with all the airdrops and other contracts as we are heading towards another bull run, so many smart contract's and airdrops will emerge buy always safe guard your wallet so you don't  get to loose your assets.

This should not be limited to airdrops rather anything that involves connecting wallet or importing seed phrase to any web platform. I have seen many ICOs requiring people to connect their wallets to websites. I have also seen staking and liquidity farming platforms that also require connecting wallets. Like the OP suggested, it is always better and safer to transfer the funds planned for such activities into a separate wallet before connecting. This will reduce the damage done should the platform be designed for scam purposes. So the problem is not limited to airdrops like the caption suggested but everything that has to do with connecting wallets or importing seed phrase.
