What meaning do you find in scammer and spammer…..?

In very few days of research I hear the words scammer and spammer on this platform with little knowledge.  Although the two words have the same meaning, there are some differences in their function.  Let us discuss about it.

Many times we receive unwanted messages and unnecessary links.  We remain confused as to who does it.  We do not understand who are scammers and spammers?  What is their job?  So let us know about their work in this topic.

Scammers: Scammers and spammers are mainly associated with online activities and try to gain financial gain.  A scam is usually a fraudulent act to trick someone.  Scammers use technology in a variety of ways to extort money. Scams can be done in a variety of ways, such as
1.phishing attacks
2. investment fraud
3.and fake websites etc.
Scammers mainly target those who are ignorant about it.

Spammer: Now let's talk about spammers. Spam is an act where a spammer sends unnecessary and irrelevant messages, often confusing the recipient.

Although the two words have the same meaning, there are some differences in their function.  Let us discuss about it.

These two words do not have the same meaning, although they sound similar.

Meaning of "scam" in English:
noun - a dishonest plan for making money or getting an advantage, especially one that involves tricking people
verb - to trick someone into giving you money or giving you some advantage, in a dishonest and often illegal way
https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/scam

Meaning of "spam" in English:
noun - unwanted email, usually advertisements
verb - to send someone an advertisement by email that they do not want

Scammers and Spammers are completely unrelated. I don't think I need to define each of their meaning as it has been covered in earlier posts.

Now, you may have associated these terms as prior to the merit system, people would spam the forums to increase their post count and thus activity rating, making it appear that they are high profile forum member, and leverage this to perpetrate scams.

A scammer is simply someone who pranks or deceives people. Now the decete usually has a particular goal . In the context of security especially on this forum, a scammer is simply someone who tricks people to steal important things from them like personal details which can be used to stalk them or even auctioned on the dark web, or even to steal funds from them which is very common.
However a spammer on the other hand, using the context of a forum in like this is someone who creates discussions or post of very low quality. More like someone who creates useless unwanted posts .

Scammers: Scammers and spammers are mainly associated with online activities.
This isn't right Op. Scammers can be found both online and offline. It is only spamming which is more on a writing context that is mainly related to the internet.

What meaning do you find in scammer and spammer…..?
Let me put it this way- A scammer can also be a scammer but a spammer is not necessarily a scammer. For example on this forum a user who is all over the place on the different boards , creating posts and also making comments on every topic created without even making any sense or contributing positively could be tagged a spammer. If this individual then goes ahead to make posts in all the boards on the forum, offering a high return like 100% on investment after 25hours of buying a product, then that person is definitely a scammer and a spammer because the offer is too good to be true.

* Edit: Hey if you are reading this, I got it mixed up...stompix helped me fix it below in his response to this.

No, it's not we,  it's just you and it seems like despite researching it you still don't get it.

Spam is an act where a spammer sends unnecessary and irrelevant messages, often confusing the recipient.

Oh, the irony...

Let me put it this way- A scammer can also be a scammer but a spammer is not necessarily a scammer.

Not really, here is the reverse, A spammer can also be a scammer, but a scammer is not necessarily a spammer.
You see, I just switched the two and it keeps the same level of truth, both a scammer and a spammer can be and are also not necessarily the other.

You really making a big mistake on your assumption against those two words. Yes they maybe somehow sounds alike but they got totally diifferent meaning. Like not all spammers are scammers and vice versa. Spam relates to discussion of nonsense just to say stuff or probably do to make conversation just to post something while scammers have different activity well that includes spamming of potential scam threat links or anything malicious.

Scammers are scammers and spammers only create spam, how are they related to each other?
It seems like you didn't understand both of them.

I think you're the one who was confused about this.  Not us.

There is nothing in common between those words except similar letters. But semantically it's 2 very different concepts. Spamming is more about advertising someting or willing to post many messages in order to try to get some money from that. While scamming is about being dishonest and wanting to steal other people funds by deceiving them generally. While in the first case, people are not necessarily aware of the harm they are doing to others, in the second it is obvious and they cannot deny it.

Spamming is more about advertising someting or willing to post many messages in order to try to get some money from that.
Spamming is more about the quality of the posts being put out that the quantity. A user can post 10-15 times a day and each post will be relevant to the discussions and helpful to other members while another can make just 2-5 posts and they are all unnecessary spam which offers no value.

Scammers: A scam is usually a fraudulent act
Spammer: Spam is an act where a spammer sends unnecessary and irrelevant messages
Where is the similarity?

The only similarity I see is that both spam and scams are unnecessary.  But how do you confuse these two when even YOU make a difference between them yourself?  It makes zero sense.

Scammers are assholes.  Some spammers may be assholes too, but the spammers I most often see are people seeking attention or desperately trying something that is not necessarily bad intended.  Such as Bump spamming a Forum sale thread in hope of having better visibility to finally sell what they wanted.

Scammers are those people who deceive people to take what belong to them so that is people that call scammers and we have a different way to know people that is a scammer because they come with the different method of lies in other to convince you to accept their wish so those people are people that we have to understand things. From my own understanding to maneuver scammers is that you have to make a proper research of anything someone is trying to convince you to know if what the person is saying is truth or not before you can be able to inventure into it, especially their products

To be sincere I don't really see the essence of this thread.
It's like you didn't properly conduct any research before typing.
Scammers scam
Spammers spam
Simple
They ain't related except starting with S and having same number of letters.
If you want to make comparisons then hackers and scammers or fraudsters and scammers
Now this can be seen as something people might miss up
Not scammers and spammers
Is like mentioning cars when we talking about stars.

Both are unrelated in terms of meaning but it could be a bit the same when it comes to earning money. Scamming people is a way of earning money in a way that a person is taking advantage of someone while spamming is when a person is making a lot of posts that has no value or not important but when it is in the forum then a person is just posting nonsense just to reach the post requirements to get paid. As many other people have explained that both are unrelated although both words can also means that s person wanted to earn money by doing either of the two.

On this forum "spammer" often means someone who makes low quality posts with poor English. These posts are often very short, simple, contribute nothing to the conversation or often even just incomprehensible. So you don't even have to send spam through private messages to be called a spammer here.

The only similarity between spammers and scammers is that both are used in negative context, meaning that they're not beneficial to their recipients, other than that they're both very different in meanings. In simple definitions spammers are people that sends unwanted,, unrelated and meaningless messages to others, while scammers are fraudulent people who deceives others with the intention to cheat them, whether it's online, offline or physically. This forum is against spammers and scammers, they don't add values to our discussions, so we should always be watchful, especially for scammers.

I concur with you as you speak volume in my heart, u would not like to stress the whole issue based on the fact that many have bring diverse contribution to this discussion but what I need say us that one can relate them base on sound regarded as homophone they sound alike but mean different things entirely although both are if negative classification but are not the same in meaning , interm if homophone and negative perspective there two is same but regards to meaning are not .

For scammer, you can do both. Report that post to moderator. Create a topic in Scam accusation, and discuss about it with more details. It will help moderators have more proof to handle your report and can ban the scammer too.
Scams are not moderated on the forum. The mods won’t ban accounts because they tried to scam, even if you report them. In the cases of scam, the responsibility falls solely on the community, by giving the appropriate tags to the account.

Scammers are no doubt is bringing negative context to everyone because they all have intention to fool and trick people.

As for spammers, in the context of it, that's subjective. Some may say that someone is a spammer because of how he's passionate with what he shares and others don't find it interesting but instead they find that guy a spammer.

But all of us have that description and thoughts about spammer, right now, there's another context about the spammers and that's with the bitcoin blockchain that we all hate as they increase the fees.
