The Risk wey I take during 2022 Flood

Good morning inside this morning my country people , this drowning matter of JUNIOR POPE dey actor (may his soul rest in peace) don make me remember how I for take lose my family (my wife and three kids) for 2022 flood honestly I no know weather na Ignorance abi na high intake of religion tonic wey come make us dey think say shouting blood of Jesus go save us from danger even if we no apply safely first.

Make I go back to my flood Tori, during that 2022 flood me and my family dey villa and as everybody dey run to carry their properties go the neighboring villa wey the flood no affect na so I join dem as say make I save some of my things and the flood dey do like magic e dey raise every minutes so after everything I say make I go cross my family and night don reach like 6pm, fortunately or rather unfortunately we see canoe e for better say na boat with engine but this one ordinary wood wey dem cave as canoe and out of desperation to cross my family to the other villa wey flood no reach na so we enter am. My people no life jacket and my last child was about 2years old, now the canoe rider give us two options say to follow the side wey deep to reach quick or to follow the side wey no deep but we no reach quick I come tell am say make e follow the side wey deep make we reach quickly as night don dey reach make we no go meet python for water, as the guy wan enter the deep side my last child begin shout/cry dey shout no no daddy. as all this things dey happen I dey pray for mind for journey mercies but wetin be prayer if we no put safety first (life jacket) and this experience make me know say e dey good to pay attention to things wey day happen around us (the signs and warnings) when we dey for risky situation like that, na em I tell the guy make e turn follow the side wey no dey deep and as that side no dey deep my leg reach ground I come dey help the rider dey push the canoe until we reach where we dey go for around 10pm. My country people wetin una think say for happen to my entire family if to say we pass that deep side and the canoe come capsize, who I wan take save first, My kids or my wife? This na the most risky journey wey I don go for my life and I no go ever try am again. I no even wan imagine how my family for dey struggle for life inside deep water.

As we dey here so, we dey dey updated on wetin dey happen for social media but our oldies wey dey village no dey updated, make we try dey talk to our people for village to dey careful around water, when I dey small my grandmother dey carry me go buy fish for across river and nothing like life jacket for safety and e dey very wrong, even as I go up I still dey feel say nothing dey happen around water until this guy die.

In all, wetin I dey talk be say make we apply safely first no be only around water but for everything wey we dey do.

Safety is a paramount issue in the society, it's as important as the food we eat everyday. Most people don't take it serious not because they are ignorant of what can happen but because sometimes they do not feel it's necessity at that point, in Nigeria untill we see the result of something even if we are told a million times we would still ignore the obvious.

As for the people you dey take about for village. In Africa we have a way of life that is quite different from the white man's culture but as for the globalization that has been taking place we no longer regard our own culture but see it as dumb ideas. As for the people who go fishing in rivers, you rarely hear anything sad happened to them in the cost of fishing because they have a prerequisite that they take into account before going for fishing, I'm not from the riverine areas but I know this because Africans a more smart than you can imagine. I believe before a kid can be taking along side for fishing the kid must have passed through a series of exercises and tests to know if he or she can cope with the rules for fishing, this rules can be that the kid must be able to swim across the river at every instance etc. the prerequisites has been what has guided Africa for millions of years.

So for the people in the village whether they have the life jacket or not they still do very well in their own unique ways. For your own storey of how you took your family during the flood. I call such risk as the unnecessary risk.

This is just for those that have river around them as they make sure that even a new born have a little taste of water from their river, while going on that suicide mission with my grandmother across water I want you to understand that none of us knows how to swim if anything happens, now as a grown man I have heard stories of how women and children drown in that same river almost every year. So the prerequisites doesn't apply to everyone in Africa.
