A friend of mine was using Muhus wallet to keep his bitcoins Since 2021 and he was using it without any problem even early last year he was using it to make transfer but late last year he could not make any transactions again and according to him he was sending coins to an address and the wallet warned him that he should not send to the address and he tried twice and after that day he could not send for the Muhus Wallet again but the bitcoins are still inside the wallet.

And he came to me to help him out and I tried my best but no avail. And when I checked the app in Google Play Store, I didn't see it again and he was surprised because according to him, he downloaded it form there. And even the website too is no longer there again. So I am here to see if there will be any help from here. We were also contemplating whether if the wallet is no longer available in the country to be used. So any help?

Does he have his seed phrase to the wallet? If so ask him to try and import his seed to another wallet like eletrum or any other standard wallet. I tried checking also for the wallet online but no result anywhere. Are you sure your friend had downloaded it on play store? Or just some random links online. If the later, I'm sure I haven't heard of such wallet before.

Advice your friend to try my first opinion if he still has his seed phrases. If he imports and doesn't find and funds inside then he probably have been scammed. Please we should try our best to use standard wallets

I don't know why there is no information on Muhus wallet or exchange on the internet. I have made tried to get my hands about Muhus, but I got lost. I feel that wallet should be a closed source and the company have disappeared into thin air, or if it is an exchange they must have made an exit scam. Open source wallets are the best in which we can use to store bitcoin. It is good to also use only bitcoin wallet to store bitcoin. I feel pity for your friend because he lacks the knowledge on how to keep his coins safe. If you say that he is seeing his balance ask him of his seed phrase and that is if the wallet supports importing of seed phrase to a new wallet.

I didn't find any trace of it, it seems that someone made sure that wallet disappeared - at least as far as those who won't use some special skills to try to find some trace that is more difficult or impossible to erase. I can only repeat the same question - did your friend get the opportunity to make a backup in the form of a seed word or anything else (private keys)?

I don't know why anyone even thinks of keeping such a large amount in a wallet that is (at least to me) completely unknown and, as we can see, completely unreliable Roll Eyes

It is possible that the wallet shows a balance that does not actually exist - it is one of the tricks to deceive the victim that the coins are still there, and it is possible that they have been "moved" a long time ago.

I did not find information about https://muhus.com, so I decided to visit their domain. They claim it is a wallet, but it is a crypto exchange. I created an account there and got an address for deposits and withdrawals. I searched for a way to extract the private key and did not find it. The service it has is https://muhus.com/terms and https://muhus.com/aml-kyc-policy You also get an account ID, so if your friend has completed the identity verification procedures, he can contact the support team to give him access to his balance.

And he came to me to help him out and I tried my best but no avail. And when I checked the app in Google Play Store,
Are you sure it's an app? I changed the browser settings to show it like the phone screen and see what I got

How did you manage to get through to their website? I have typed https://muhus.com and it didn't load, I used Google to search for them and it didn't pull up any results. I am livid because how can a crypto wallet or an exchange have no digital footprint any where on the Internet. I even checked on Twitter and found only one result of someone who dropped their referral link and yet the website didn't open. Maybe it is because we are from different regions but then, it is very wild. A website without any digital footprint will not have a support for their clients.
Big lesson for everyone to stay away from these unknown, unverified crypto wallets or exchanges. And tell your friends too.

I haven't heard of that wallet at all, why did your friend choose that wallet since doesn't have a seed phrase?

Upon searching I found this on Reddit posted last month, they're talking that this wallet is 100% scam.

I tend to agree above, if there's no seed phrase given so there's no chance your friend recover his locked Bitcoin.

@Yamane_Keto, strange, I couldn't find anything when I searched by keywords - maybe it's the browser, the search engine, or there is some geo-ban on displaying the results for the same... Huh

However, when I look at the design of the site, it reminds me a lot of some scam exchanges that used a similar template. I hope I'm wrong, although it doesn't look legit to me personally.

The domain check says the following :

I hope they are not scammers but they claim to be a registered company
CRYPTO ASSIST LTD
Company number: 12769910

Registered company office address:
20-22 Wenlock Road, London, England, N1 7GU

Their registration number 12769910 gives me MAGIC SCARVES LTD, which has a different address than what mentioned. When I search for office address details, I do not find any data about CRYPTO ASSIST LTD. They lied about their registration number.

This looks like another scam service that just drains the user funds and shows their supposed bitcoin balance increase without actually having any kind of bitcoin in it. The main reason why they don't allow your friend to withdraw their funds from the service is because there aren't any funds to withdraw from. Sadly your friend has been scammed and probably won't ever see his money back.

The service stinks with scam - if you try to click in any of the options at the bottom of the page you literally can't open any of them without signing up for the service which is a red flag. What kind of service hides their terms, policies, KYC procedures, privacy policies within a sign up procedure? It just shows that they really wanted to have your information on their side so that they could exploit people.

Their registration number 12769910 gives me MAGIC SCARVES LTD, which has a different address than what mentioned. When I search for office address details, I do not find any data about CRYPTO ASSIST LTD. They lied about their registration number.

Another red flag - check the first snapshot made by WayBackMachine of this website and you'll see that it consisted mostly of flash games[1]. After ~2012 all the snapshots archived just show a blank webpage[2] so something fishy definitely is going on with that service. Do consider that probably your friend also installed a compromised application on his phone as well.

If it has a KYC policy then it is not a wallet, it is an exchanger! Nobody should be storing their life savings in an exchanger.

The website loads for most users on this thread, perhaps you could try to use a VPN to some USA city or European one? I was also able to access it, so probably they geo blocked your country from accessing the service?

Unrelated to what, and sadly to your friend, I don't believe he'll see any of the funds that he as been sending to that service. The best that he can do now is stopping (if he hasn't yet) channeling funds over Muhus.

The website loads for most users on this thread, perhaps you could try to use a VPN to some USA city or European one? I was also able to access it, so probably they geo blocked your country from accessing the service?
Agbe is a Nigerian and I believe his friend also would be a Nigerian. Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has told all network providers to make Nigerians not to be able to access all exchanges when Binance was accused of naira manipulation. Although, Nigerians are able to access the exchanges using mobile apps, but the exchanges can not be accessed through their websites. I use VPN, set it to Netherlands and it worked but I was unable to access it using the IP address. The VPN location should not be set to USA because exchanges that are not registered in US always try to avoid US citizens and US VPN location from accessing them.

Please can you help me out to check the app or the website and if it's working in your country please me to transfer the coins to another wallet. Please. Because the coins are stuck there and there is nothing we can do here because the app and the site is not working in my country. I can send your the details on pm.

Upon searching I found this on Reddit posted last month, they're talking that this wallet is 100% scam.

I think that the legitimacy of that service is quite clear, so one thing that could happen to your friend is that they ask for even more money to "unlock" the account. Unfortunately, this is a classic scam where they constantly try to convince you that you should pay more, and when you refuse, they block your account.

That is exactly what they asked him to do and he wanted to but I stopped him and told him that let me hear from the forum if I can see anyone can help me here, so I can also help him out to unfreeze the coins. He said they took to to pay or deposit $500 to unfreeze the coins. Lucius how do you know them? Wow!! Thank you very foe this information. I am overwhelmed. At least Extra funds will not lost again. Nice to have you here.

It's an old trick used by scammers, but you obviously missed the Reddit link (hyperlink) posted by @sheenshane, which I also quoted in my post. There you can read other people's experiences that only confirm what we are writing about here.

It all boils down to the fact that we simply have to use non-custodial wallets and those that already have a solid reputation. Of course, for such large amounts, a proven hardware wallet is the least we can do to reduce all the risks that arise from investing in cryptocurrencies.

Yes you are right, it was after my previous comment, I visit the link and saw everything. Thanks for sheenshane for the information. I also asked the guy (my friend) why he chose to use the Muhus Wallet and he told me he was using it for trading and the period.of trading he kept all the coins there and using it very fine but suddenly the wallet just misbehaved and before he knew, he couldn't transfer his coins again and since then he has been battling to transfer them but they told him that he should deposit money to the wallet to unfreeze the balance and he visited me and told the narrative, I told him to hold on for me to make some research and inquiry about the wallet and that is why I brought it here.

0.33 Bitcoin is a TON of money to lose so this will be a very, very expensive lesson for your friend to learn.

But unfortunately, besides trying their best to get their funds back through Customer Support WITHOUT PAYING any Dollar to any body for it, there is nothing else they can do.  And since the website is talked about as being a Scam anyway, the hopes are too little and there will likely be no good solution for your friend.

Next step is, have your friend get a Hardware Wallet and have them store their Bitcoin PROPERLY.  This is the biggest danger of Centralized Exchanges.  Particularly if your friend does NOT need to move money, have them keep all the money in their OWN non Custodial Wallet instead.  For long periods of time, even the most Trusted Exchanges such as Binance are an incredible risk to assume.

I don't know if it makes sense considering the country where the OP and his friend are located, but the only option left is to report it to the police, and hope that one day someone will be able to locate these scammers and make them pay for what they stole through the courts.

Apart from that, the only thing the rest of us can do is to report that site as malicious and hope that it will be blocked in most browsers.

Lack of knowledge and also storing BTC without being a member of a BTC forum, i.e. bitcointalk. It is very possible that OP's friend has never heard of Electrum or a hardware wallet, yet they have a lot of money in BTC.

I don't know if op's friend would still be interested in BTC after this, he is likely to call BTC a scam and leave the network. However, if they are still interested in BTC, you can try to help them join this forum and grow their knowledge about BTC before accumulating it again.

Yes the guy has not really gotten enough knowledge on wallet. He knew only all those old wallets, exchanges the popular exchange like Binance and few. So yesterday he came to my place and I told him all the contributions here and I also advised him to use Electrum wallet if in anytime he will be using bitcoin again and he agreed with me. He said he didn't know Electrum wallet before though he has heard the name but he has not used it to keep any coin. So he has no knowledge about it. And really this has reminded me on the popular phrase that, "ignorance is a disease".

I would also explain your friend that, unlike the fake "Muhus Wallet", he can't buy bitcoin in Electrum as it only serves the purpose of storing his bitcoin. As far as exchanges go, a couple come to mind:

  • Robosats[1]
  • AgoraDesk[2]
  • Peach Bitcoin[3]

You can guide him here[4] if he is not satisfied with the previous suggestions as well.

A well known scam scheme is to convince gullible "investors" to transfer amounts of $200-$250 for trading. This seems to be a well working limit that a lot of people are willing to risk for a "profitable" investment. Then this multiplies by fake trading to (sometimes absurdly) larger "profit". To be clear, it's faked profit. The scammers either persuade the now increasingly more greedy "investors" to fund more money for even more (fake) "profit", this cycle can repeat, or prepare the cash-out exit-scam.

If the "investor" wants to cash out, then the already described add-on scam starts to ask for more money in order to "facilitate" the cash-out process (e.g. paying trading taxes or other silly claims). This of course is only to squeeze any further amount of money from the victims. It seems to work surprisingly well, especially when the victims are blinded by greed for their "huge profit". The latter is of course all faked.

Don't be stupid and greedy. If it sounds too good to be true, it likely isn't any true. And as always: not your keys, not really your coins.

Maybe the OP's friend wouldn't connect to this forum. Because if he is on a forum or connected, then he must know which wallet is best for Bitcoin. But I think he lost his Bitcoin due to his lack of knowledge. That's why I often try to make the employee have a strong privacy stance first and emphasize on it like when OP's friend used MUHUS instead of the right wallet, i.e., an Electrum Wallet/Hardware Wallet because of his ignorance. Currently, the best wallet to store Bitcoin is Electrum. But he lost his BTC by choosing a worn wallet in the process.

So your point is correct that people dig asset's by their mistakes and later will see Bitcion as scammed that Bitcoin is scammed, but due to his lack of knowledge he has stored his BTC in the wrong place. Therefore, every person should consider it properly before entering the crypto industry so as not to fall prey to scammers later.

I think your friend didn't have 0.33 BTC, it's just some numbers entered on the website. After he staked some amount of Bitcoin on the fake exchange, the figure was put up to trick him into sending more Bitcoin.

Although, I'm against the action of the Nigerian govt for blacklisting exchanges urls, but it did work in his favour. If not for this, I'm sure your friend wouldn't have contacted you about the Bitcoin on the fake app and would have blindly release his funds to those scammers. This is just say that not every actions are sometimes bad, this one worked for him. Also, It's good knowing you recommended a good wallet for him.

you mentioned that it is a Google Play app but I did not find any mention they have an app on the Google Play and did not find any active app.
Did he really lose 0.33 BTC or did he think he earned it and the site asked him to deposit to withdraw it?

And he came to me to help him out and I tried my best but no avail. And when I checked the app in Google Play Store, I didn't see it again and he was surprised because according to him, he downloaded it form there. And even the website too is no longer there again.

Because there isn't one. Probably what happened is that his friend was sent a url that took him to a lookalike of Google Play, where the compromised application could be downloaded from.
Did he really lose 0.33 BTC or did he think he earned it and the site asked him to deposit to withdraw it?
The latter. He probably invested most of the corresponding funds that represented 0.33 BTC and was then asked to invest even more in order to retrieve it (which would be impossible since he didn't had any amount of bitcoin to begin with). Like many have said before, a common tactic used by scammers with unaware clients of what they are actually doing. The (fake) positive reviews in some webites[1] - also promoted by the scammers - didn't help as new users to this world wouldn't probably be aware that promotion scams within review websites are also rampant.

Also, according to the only real reviews of the service - the ones that are 1 star[2] - it looks like 0.33 BTC was a common tactic used by Muhus so that people would deposit 0.004 BTC (at current rate it represents ~ $256 USD) and then they would be "rewarded" with 0.33 BTC. It takes one second to smell that something is fishy, but most people are unaware and just want to have bitcoin. Hopefully Agbe's friend only lost 0.004 BTC but I fear that many more have lost more than that.

I highly recommend that everyone reports this service to prevent more damage to current and future users. According to WHOIS[3] data, here is some basic contact information:

Quote
Registrar Abuse Contact Email: email@namecheap.com
Registrar Abuse Contact Phone: +1.9854014545
Reseller: NAMECHEAP INC

This would take only the domain down but it is better than nothing. The address that is being used (Iceland, Kalkofnsvegur 2) is usually used by cheap hosting providers, so I guess there is nothing much that can be done on that regard.

We have passed this stage of the discussion, please if you don't understand can you go back and read the Op and other comments so that you will have a good background of the thread. If the app was not in Google Play Store then how would he downloaded it and send Bitcoins to it? He has been using the wallet to make transfers and the issue happened suddenly and recently. As of November last year, he told me that he had bitcoin of $3+k and he had sold $1k, and as of that time I wanted to buy some from him but there was no funds with me because he wanted to sell about $1+k worth of bitcoin. When something pains me and see this kind of comment, it pains me the more.

RickDeckard that has been following up this thread making a comment as if he is just coming to the thread, I told you clearly that my friends 0.33 bitcoin is stucked and you are saying 0.004 BTC. Well according to a saying "if what happened is not related to them, they can say all sorts of things". It is only the bearer knows how it pains. I think I came here for solution if possible and I am satisfied with the answers previously given. But I will still open the thread.

Perhaps you misunderstood my comment - What I said is that, based on recent feedback from a review platform[1] - it seems that the modus operandi[1] of the company to entail investors was to spread a message of "Send us 0.004 BTC (to X address) and we'll credit you with 0.33 BTC on our service/website".

Maybe it's because from first replies I was trying to help you? If you back, I asked you here.

And he came to me to help him out and I tried my best but no avail. And when I checked the app in Google Play Store,
Are you sure it's an app? I changed the browser settings to show it like the phone screen and see what I got

I am trying to help, so I tell you that there is no Google Play app, and if there is a wallet app, it may be a different from what was mentioned because many comments on Reddit indicate that the service is a scam from the beginning.

I wish it was a different wallet and he didn't really lose 0.33 BTC

Currently, the best wallet to store Bitcoin is Electrum.
Electrum is a recommended BTC wallet, but i would not call any wallet 'the best BTC wallet', there are many recommended BTC wallet's and the user will simply choose which of them satisfies their needs. Take note that Electrum is an online wallet and isn't even recommended to store ~ 0.3 BTC that the op's friend lost, except it is run in an airgapped device that would never be connected to the internet.

It's 100% scam exchange, there is no chance of funds being recovered. Check out these sites too, I think it's duplicates:
Code:
houds.com
meuma.com

There are 2 possibilities: The application was listed on Playstore in the past, but has been taken down; Users can install any apps outside Playstore if they allow "install unknown apps" in settings.
