I think the goal is to make the winning amount higher. As always with this type of topics, people tend to get overly focused on the probability of winning, completely neglecting payout rates being too small to make it worth it.

What I know is that what could be applied to hockey and other sports games could also be applicable to soccer betting as well, which is why I commend you on testing this out. However, this strategy looks odd and it shows some kind of "gambling within gambling" kind of pattern which I am not particularly comfortable with. The best way to bet on sports is to know the full information about the two teams playing and use your discretion and instinct to make your bet. This is still subject to some luck factors as well, and not about a certain pattern that your friend taught you.

Besides, if a team can score a goal and could keep it till the end of the match often, it only means that the team is not weak but strong which is a factor that will reduce the odds of that team against the other. Don't let this be a test, five dollars is enough to risk on gambling and sometimes you can even make more than this forty dollars, how do you feel after winning? It's always a very wise decision for gamblers to change their strategies and pattern of gambling whenever they stop getting wins in their gambles. But that being said, I think there are strategies that more profitable to gamblers which is what is requested for us to share them here.

Every strategy actually has very good chance of increasing but we must be able to realize that every strategy and no matter how good the strategy used will always have failures because in gambling there is no guaranteed victory and success even though it is based on strategy and skill.
If it is about strategy like what OP said, maybe it could be good way to get an advantage with clear chance of winning, but some things can make it inappropriate such as surprises and advantages owned by the weaker team and if it is bet on it also carries fairly large risk.

I have tried it several times when the club I bet on creates an advantage and the game has entered the second half but sometimes the final result is unexpected and actually draws or the opponent makes a comeback and finally the bet is lost, in my opinion betting when the club has created an advantage the odds will change lower and less than @ 1.3 and it is not worth the risk if we end up losing and the profit is only small and we also have to see first whether the club we bet on is convincing or not.

So far yes I can also confirm that it is one of the smart strategies to apply in sports betting, but I would also suggest to analyze first about which team is statistically superior in the season, the benefit is when you see that it turns out that the weaker team scores first compared to the stronger team then there you need to reconsider, do not immediately bet just when you see one team scoring earlier than the opposing team, because when the scenario is that the team that scores first is the statistically weaker team then of course there is still a big possibility for the statistically stronger team to turn things around.

Really, there is no guarantee here because you cants bring this kind of strategy to sport bets. It can remain invalid with so many games because most matches do not always end up in winning especially for the first team that scored. Games normally changes and any team could win or the match can suddenly end up in draw. The case of matches ending up in draws is what makes this strategy ineffective for me. Maybe you could use it in so many sports and it makes sense but in sport bets, I don't think it's going to make any reasonable winnings because most of these matches do end up in draws.
