I want to ask: Are Using A Journal or Spreadsheets Will Fave The Way For Addiction To Gambling? My reasoning is that by creating a spreadsheet or a journal, you are taking gambling seriously and looking for ways and a means to win in sports betting or luck-based games.

Does anyone here have their own journal or spreadsheets, and are you taking gambling seriously?

I think that only very very few person have such an excel spreadsheet or word document where they update it regularly by keeping track of everything they do.This is however not a paving way to addiction,this for me means to be extra cautious with what you do and if you have a look at your word or excel document and you spot heavy losses that is red flag or a bell of alarm that a smart person should interpret it as to stop gambling otherwise if he continues it is going to be bad and go from bad to worse.This can be as a last resort savior for people who keep such document.Personally I have never kept it as I mostly play slot machines and I know I am in deep red,looking for ways to stop gambling completely.

The moment you begin to adopt this step, soon enough, it'll become a lifestyle - that means, you an addict already! The body stimulates the mind in most actions; like getting aquatinted with a certain habit overtime... I'd guess that's the last thing you'd ever want.

I think it's a rather a good thing IMO because it helps to stay objective on the situation and your condition actually. You're less likely to deny your losses and the time you spent on this activity with a journal or a spreadsheet tracking your results. So I think it could prevent addiction and gambling compulsion if you make it seriously. But you should keep in mind it's only a tool, it can help but it can't cure gambling addiction alone. People really affected by this condition need to see a doctor for this.

I can't even remember my bets from last day so I don't even want to start a spreadsheet as that will most likely drive me crazy haha with my pathetic choices + I don't really like to keep notes about my bets but I do like to track some certain teams in order to avoid them or to place bets on them. Very few gamblers are actually doing this practice - recording his bets. Because believe it or not, it is time consuming and you can't sustain such activity especially if you are a regular bettor. But if you are just an occasional bettor, it would not be a bothersome to do such task. It will also give you idea on how are you doing with predictions in sports. You can also get some hints on your next bets.

I've tried that once, as I wanted to see my betting prowess in basketball. Remember, in one game, there are a lot of betting lines that you can place your bets with. So I tried recording all my bets for that game and see if I can have profit at the end of the game. And I did have profits. But in my opinion, this is quite tedious if you will do this in your day to day betting. Good for you if you have so much time to spare, but if not, better take note your deposit and withdrawal amounts to see if you are on the losing or winning side.

I used to have a spreadsheets to document my bets. It used to include infos like the teams in the selection, the market, the odds, amount and result of the bet. I wanted a way to keep track of my bets so I can guage if I'm actually making profits or not. It seemed like a nice idea at the time but it didn't really work out.

For OP that is asking if it can contribute to gambling addition, I can't say for such but the fact remains that anybody that goes that extra miles to document their bets actually take gambling as a hustle and business and not something for fun. It has been escalated.

I do not have a personally made spreadsheet since the casino has our cash flow record and the statistics of our gambling performance.  Besides, I always look at gambling as an entertainment that can possibly give me profit so I do not take it seriously as a career or as a main source of income.  But I take it seriously when it comes to moderation and responsible gambling because I know that one slip of discipline can possibly trigger gambling addiction.

I do not have a journal or any kind of way to register my wins or losses after each gambling session, since I am the kind of person who actually believes those tools are indeed a faster way to get trapped by gambling addiction. It is better just to slowly forget about losses and enjoy wins when they are big enough for us to buy something nice.
Since the house is supposed to always to over gamblers in the long term, having a gambling journal only encourages gamblers to continue to wager in the long term (for the sake of always having positive balance against the casino), that will ultimately finish with losses which will encourage further to gamble more and more and increase the wager.
So, that is what I personally think of those journals or registers. They are not good for the purpose of gambling being seen as a way to entertain ourselves and exclusively use money which we can afford to lose.

About this, I won't say I'm surprised, it is all about how we take betting. Some take betting as a casual extra activity where they can try their luck and have fun without laying so much seriousness to it, while others may take it seriously. Among those who take it seriously will surely be those who are trying to be thorough with it to the extent of having their gambling record. Either, I can't take gambling that seriously even though I am fully engaged. I have other things to rack my brain with than gambling, and my philosophy about it is that if I win, I win, and if I lose, I lose, life goes on. However, a thing that I do better in gambling is to make sure that I am committed to responsible gambling, that's just it.

As for your questions, the only way someone will have a journal for gambling will ever be for accountability and I do not think such a gambler can be addicted or be an irresponsible gambler doing that. The moment the person is addicted and irresponsible is the moment that he will even forget he has a gambling journal. Surely, this is not about the way to win or analyze better, even in sports betting, all the records are online for your consumption, and can even be stored in the brain for future use. For these, I think his motive is for proper recording and accountability.

Only luck can tell if winning moments will be for me, and I'm just thankful for those money I've bee using to contribute to gambling businesses particular with online betting. Having fun isn't bad but putting gambling to addiction will be worst.

You are a good gambler and you are gambling responsibly. It is like someone to be asking me if I should be having the money that I spent during weekends on beer on records, which is just small amount of money which is not even on every weekends. I gamble just during weekends because I am always exhausted during the weekdays with work, while I only use just small amount of money on gambling which is not even often. Why having records on a journal for something that is not that irrelevant in my money management.

Many people told we need to track our income and spending, so always record the money you make and every time you spend your money. It's used to make people able to manage their money and will not run out their money before they get paid in the next month. But I cannot say that I went through gambling addiction just by doing that. It just made me realize how much my winning and losing rates and I can say I've won some amount but didn't really feel it because I was also playing casino games while doing the sports betting in the said event.

That means, you only use gambling to have fun and not to makes money while that's good for you because you can playing gambling without emotions. Done this using my laptop and I don’t find it complicated thing to do since it just a simple copy paste once the result is out. Casino has a category for settled bets and summarized everything that makes it very easy to transfer on spreadsheet via computer.

Unless you are making hundred bets a day then this task is really complicated. But normal sports bettor/gambler usually have a few picks for the day while casino records are available under the profile transaction history. Some casino even have a statistics feature that shows your gambling progress on different time frames.
