When did you realize you need to be a responsible gambler so you can continue ?

We all know that we cannot play for a long time without being responsible players; we could go crazy, or we could lose all our money; at some point, you have to realize that you need to play responsibly, so I created this poll and this discussion to pick your reasons and explain it.

In my case, I have to lose a lot of money to realize I have to gamble responsibly if I don't want to break my finances and experience depression, so now I control myself and monitor my expenses, and I'm doing good with it.

I would have chose the "I am a responsible person" option, but that may not be entirely true. Almost everyone has a vice they get hooked on, could be soda drinks, junk food, gambling and so on. I never got hooked to the concept of gambling, I find it appealing cause of my love for sports and desire to get predictions correct, but I have never imagined getting rich from gambling.

Losing a lot of money is a wake up call for me to stop playing like a retard. I gain most of my crypto holdings from bounty campaigns and early investment that’s why I’m reckless on gambling when I’m still new on exploring it.

I just realized that I need to become more careful when I sum up all my losses and think what I can possibly have now if I didn’t spend my crypto holdings from gambling back then. The thing that did it for me was family and friends calling my attention to the fact that I am always on my phone gambling or on a sports betting website. They noticed that it began to affect the other areas of my life such as punctuality to the place of work, fixing some basic things around the apartment, certain family gathering and other family responsibilities. I choose I’m a responsible person because I’m financial manager and deal with my finances properly before I start learning gambling here in the forum. I only gamble for experience purposes since I’m working with casino signature campaign that requires gambling post.

Most of gamblers are stubborn and have a high ego. Only personal experience can make someone become a responsible gambler.
My golden principle when gambling now is, "gamble with the money you can afford to lose, do not gamble with your life"

If you don't watch it at the beginning you might end up building wrong impression that will become carelessness which is not needed in gambling before it leads to a devastating loss. I am also choosing the last  option I am a responsible person that is why I also being a responsible gambler from the starting of my gambling. Even then I have do a little exploring before made some investment of any where like trading to gambling. And I think there is one of the main reason is I am a little bit low risk taker minded person.
And the most important thing is I never cross my limits of afford to lose in any case like trading investment and gambling. I always try to dedicate a certain percentage of fund from my salary like <5% so that can't made any affect in my life.

Losing can teach one a big way to being responsible in gambling, this is because when you lose you feel the need to caught down on your gambling activeness which to some extent we need to checkmate in other to remain at a level where we can build consistently gambling experience, some times when you have a large amount in balance you may get carried away to stake more than you should if you are not being responsibly guided.
But guidance can be developed all Ng the way while gambling and only loses can teach us such a great lessons.

I agree with the voters, the first and last choice are judged by ourselves, while the rest are related to third parties opinion. I don't care with third parties opinion because different person has a different risk to reward ratio. For you 5% of money is fine to be gambled, but for them, they can't even accept 0.1% to be gambled, they want to save money as much as possible.

Maybe I could be called a responsible gambler because at that time I lost a lot of money, but at that time I immediately realized it and it didn't last long and I immediately took action to limit my gambling activities.
And now I just gamble on the weekends with the few dollars I set aside for gambling on the weekends, and just for fun after five busy days at work. But that's also when I feel like it, otherwise I wouldn't gamble and it depends on my mood.
But sometimes with what I'm experiencing now, sometimes I'm lucky, even if it's a small amount, but I can use it to bet the following weekend.

I realized this before I gambled any money at all, at the time like many newbie gamblers I thought there could be a way to beat the casinos and earn money doing something that at the end is nothing more but a simple game, however the attempts I did with play money all failed, this led me to inform myself about gambling and what I read, forced me to give up on those fantasies and understand that gambling can only be a hobby for me, and that I needed to be very careful with my money so I did not went through the same experiences some gamblers encountered.

It's been 3 years since such thing happened to me and it became my eye opener up until now. It taught me to always manage the risk and to control oneself on whatever gambling outcome there is. With gambling, if you'll have no control of yourself in particular with emotions, then expect nothing less than the worse or specifically, huge loss. Forcing your chances by betting more times or higher amounts, won't assure or guarantee you winning the game. If you're unlucky then you will lose, that's the idea basically. Many of us for sure experienced failure in gambling but be sure to learn on those instances to avoid

In my case I didn't have to lose anything to realize that I have to gamble responsibly. There were already a lot of examples around me. I saw students use their school fees for gambling and lost. I saw young men used their house rent for gambling and lost. I also saw people who borrowed money used it for gambling lost it and fell into depression because the couldn't repay the money.

These were all social examples around me that made me to make up my mind that I was going to become a responsible Gambler because I didn't want the shame, the disgrace, and the regret that comes with being and irresponsible gambler

I was a chronic gambler. I lost interest in gambling addiction because I have been losing over the five years I was actively gambling. I lost huge amount that my family knew about that made me finally think of quitting and I quit gambling addiction at the time. I first quit gambling for a year. Later I gamble and I lost and I quit for like 3 months again. I knew I have stopped the addiction and I started to gamble again but not often again and I use considerably small amount of money while gambling.

When I am not yet playing and I see people going nuts, I realise that I have to gamble responsibly yes, there were times that I lost control of myself and lost money that I couldn't afford to lose and chased losses but memories of people that are closing to me and how they behave like nuts always makes me realize I have to get back my sanity and play responsible.
The other people and your own experience are the best teachers and it's very much true in gambling.

I can confidently say that I'm a responsible gambler from the get-go. I know my limits, and I worked with what I have and never really exceeded from my allotted budget for the week. It has been like that for years and until now, I am still doing the same thing. My finances are always in check, never got into unwanted debt due to gambling, and I'm still living comfortably with my salary and some of the extras I receive in my other gigs. Gambling is just a hobby for me--a costly one at that--though I am still hoping to somehow hit a jackpot for once just like a lot of people do here.

I remember that when I decided to become a responsible gambler it was when I lost a lot of money on slots in a day. I realize I have to take control of my greed if I want to continue to gamble because there are a lot of risks in gambling. You're out if you give in, so I prefer to control and just enjoy the experience rather than trying to make money.

I sort of feel the opposite.  I've always been an extremely responsible gambler and have never lost a bet that I got emotional about because I needed the money.  At this point, it feels like I may need some irresponsibility with my gambling to bring some fun.  Lately I've tossed some bucks at slot machines knowing I was setting money on fire, but it was nice to get a feeling of excitement with the possibility of hitting a major jackpot.  Sure, so far I've just lost any winnings on the slots, but it was fun trying something new as opposed to low stakes sports betting.  Just make sure if you're going to set your money on fire that you have enough to where losing it doesn't effect you.
