Importance of the META BOARD

 It has got to my knowledge that so many users more especially newbies and low ranked don't go through the META BOARD simply because they feel that the information convened there are only relevant to high ranked members and they feel that they don't have much contributions to the discussions there but this is a very wrong narrative because the META BOARD stands as an information desk of the forum and should be visited on regular basis to get acquainted with recent and relevant information about the forum.

Just like on the April fool's day when Theymos played a hard prank on us about the Adjustments to Merit calculation whereby when you spend more time reading, your merit increases but when you make a post it decreases. I was actually online that faithful day when Theymos initiated it and I was reading some posts in the forum so I was about checking a previous reply I made then I checked my profile only to see that my merit has increased, I immediately checked my merit statistics to know who sent me merit but I didn't see anything, I kept refreshing my browser to know if it was a network issue but to no avail and it felt very strange to me, i immediately went to the META BOARD only to discover that it was Theymos, i laughed so hard.

Let me not make this thread too voluminous but the advice am trynna give is that we should always make sure that we visit the META BOARD always so that we don't get misinformed about the forum and again the META BOARD contains statistical data of almost everything about the forum and it is being updated regularly so checking the META BOARD regularly will also make you to be up-to-date about any information in the forum more especially for newbies.

Nice advice, but I really think this is just your own observation and I see no reason why newbies should be scared of any board here on the forum. If a newbie really wants to know more about the forum he has to visit the meta board more often. Ranking up as a newbie, I tried my best to study past events about the forum. I would scroll to the last pages to read through some important posts I found. This was how I was able to know my way through the forum. It helped me a lot not just on meta but even knowing some past event that happened before my localboard Nija was created.

Every board has its importance so newbies should take their time to study those of interest. But if they want to know about the forum they should not be scared of meta but take their time and go through it.

Actually it's good if those newbies didn't visit Meta board during April Fools' Day, so they will think that merit deduction is real and they need to be careful before making posts. If they know if that day was April Fools', the "fun" ended.

If those newbies think they shouldn't touch Meta board, then it's their own mistakes since anyone can contribute in any board (although few boards restrict newbies to posts).

I guess common sense? sometime you can know the "pattern" even though no one tell it to you and you didn't know the information.

Yes.

Newbies can't open investigations sub board.

Newbies can open serious discussion board and ivory tower sub board, but they can't post in those two boards.

Newbies can't post in Archival board too.

Quite an interesting topic, I must say. As a newbie, I try to explore every board as much as possible to learn how things work there. However, that doesn't mean I should start making or replying to posts that I don't understand. There are certain boards I think I can work with, while there are others I might struggle to fit into. It's not because I'm not interested, but simply because I don't understand many of the discussions being had.

Regarding the META board, I plan to start visiting it regularly to get updated information concerning the platform. I'm not sure if I'll be making posts, but understanding how things are done will be my first priority.

You do not have to post on meta because you have no idea of what you can post there, but if you are quite often visiting the board, you will later notice that you will want to post because you would have learned from what other people have posted there. One thing about this forum is for newbies not to rush but to learn.

the advice you've given isn't out of place and surely, it's very deficult to think of going to the meta board unless you just want to check out what's happening at the different boards in the forum and surely, even if you don't visit all the different boards it doesn't get you penalized and isn't necessary that you have to do so.

I believe if there is a very important information that could be of great use to all members of the forum, it's mostly pinned at the top of all users account which makes it a broadcast that's visible to everyone regardless of the rank of the person in the forum or regardless of wether or not the person visits the meta board or not. We've seen similar things during the April fool stuff and when mixer campaign where banned in the forum that a form of broadcast message was sent from @thymos across so no one would say he didn't see it because it was posted at meta board.

The moderators and some snr men  in the local board do sometimes bring up important threads and information to the local board so her members can also see it. What's there is that if you know that you aren't comfortable with going to the meta section of the forum, it's best to visit your local board more often so if you miss out on anything that's posted at meta, if someone dims it fit to bring it to the local board, you can also benefit from it.

There is no newbie jail, no restriction against them to access Meta board so visit this board or skip it, it depends on what they want to do.

If a newbie joins this forum for learning, they will visit Beginners & Help board and on top of this board, they will see the pinned thread Newbies - Read before posting.

By learning with that topic, they will be directed to some topics in Meta board. It's how they learn from Beginners & Help board and will gradually get familiar with Meta board.

If a newbie joins forum not for learning, they will not do above steps and will not care about your warning thread too.

Its not a bad thing if we choose to visit the meta board often to learn and know about the forum more broader, being a newbie, we are expected to learn and do much of reading posts than making posts, this will help us in many ways have good knowledge of how things are being done on every section, we also have the reputation board which comprises of the members discussions and their way of behaviors on the forum, we have the bitcoin discussion board among others, when we have an idea of what is expected to discussed on a particular board, we will tune our attention on learning from such till we have acquired to an extent from it.

Yes, without any doubt Meta board is one of the most essential boards on the forum but if you aren't sure why that board is present and what type of topics are needed on that board then it's not necessary to post there.

In simple terms Meta board is the place to discuss about topics that are directly related to the forum, and that board has nothing to do with Bitcoin in general. If someone wants to understand the forum deeply, then reading posts on Meta board is going to be much helpful.

Those newbies who want to learn about the forum and aren't sure where to begin their learning then they should look nowhere else than Meta board but if someone who wants to get knowledge about Bitcoin then that person should read topics at Bitcoin discussions and speculation board.

Most newbies will like to focus on learning about Bitcoin so it is common to see them in Bitcoin discussions. When they want help they go to the beginners and help board. Almost everyone is conversant with politics and the economy, so they can easily visit these boards. Others who have technical knowledge or want to learn will easily go to the technical board. Only a few of them will want to start learning how the forum works. But as they start growing in the forum, the Meta board will start becoming important.

The Meta Board is an interesting section to visit. If you want to know about the operations of the forum, Meta is the ideal board to go to. I see it as the legal arm of the forum where discussions about the rules of the forum are discussed. But I will advise that you don't comment until you have a sound understanding of what is being discussed.
