^^^ But you will know way more of the teachings of Jesus than you do now... in the next life if not here. Once He has you, He will never let you go, except if you force Him out. But He won't go easily.
Nobody who is a saved person of Jesus does anything to make that salvation work. It's all, 100%, done by the Holy spirit.
The closest we come to helping with our own salvation is by becoming too weak to resist the Holy Spirit. Often this happens while living the frustrations of life.
We don't really know how the miracle of faith works in our heart, but it is strengthened by the Holy Spirit using the words of the Bible to make us stronger.
We are completely reliant on God working in us. Even when we think that we are doing something for God, essentially Jesus did it all already. We are simply members of His body, carrying out what He is, because He is doing it for us at His Father's command.
This is the way it has been right from the beginning. God made all this universe, and He made us. We made none of it, and we can't do anything without Him and His blessing. He gives us much freedom here.
