QS - 10 years on the forum

Hi everyone,

In about two months, I will have been on the forum for 10 years. I have not been able to spend much time on the forum recently, certainly nowhere near as much time as I have in the past, and I am not sure I would remember to visit on my anniversary, so I figured I would create a thread today.

Time sure does fly when you are having fun. It is hard to believe it was 10 years ago when I first joined the forum. It is an understatement to say that a lot has changed over the years. A lot of people have lost their reputation they spent years building up, sometimes for good reason, often times not. A handful of people have been arrested for reasons related to their involvement in their Bitcoin-related activities. Sadly, some of the forum members I had the opportunity to get to know and talk to have died. I honestly cried when I saw that o_e_l_e_o had locked his goodbye/farewell thread.

Sadly, many seem to have actually left the forum, despite that they say that no one really leaves. BadBear, tomatocage, shorena, Blazr, escrow.ms, DarkStar, monbux, redsn0w, devthedev, Lauda, Dogedigital, blazed, MadZ, Muhammed Zakir, marcotheminer, xetsr, dogie, Vod seems to have left, and somewhat recently returned. There are others I have forgotten. If you have left, and happen to read this, maybe you can stop by to say hello, lol.

It is sad to see someone who was last active in 2020. The world was turned upside-down due to covid.

I certainly have made mistakes during my time on the forum. I can say however that my North Star has always been what I believed to be right at the time.

Anyway, I hope that everyone is doing well.

Dedicating almost a decade to the forum is not an easy task. You have been part of the people who contributed to the development of this platform and I respect you for that. Life is filled with ups and downs that sometimes turn an enjoyable adventure into a challenging one. We might not be able to change our past but we can still make the future beautiful by correcting and learning from our past mistakes. New members like us have a lot to learn from your wealth of experience and I just hope some members like you will still dedicate more time to the forum. However, I wish you the best in your other endeavors outside the forum and also wish you a happy Decennial celebration in advance.

Good to see you admit that, even with the qualification tacked onto the end of it.  

Honestly, it's hard to believe that you and I joined the forum less than a year apart, because to me it seems like you've been a member for way, wa-ay longer than I have.  That could be because you were involved in some drama when I was a lurker in 2014 (though I'm not sure about that), or it could just be warped perception that happens after a decade of seeing someone's posts.

Wow, there are some names in that list I haven't thought of in a very long time, and I didn't realize DarkStar_ had left the forum, so that's something I just learned.  A lot of those members had strong presences here and established reputations, and I think they also added to the spiciness bitcointalk used to have some years ago, which for the most part is gone.  I always wonder what's happened to a member who's disappeared unexpectedly (like TMAN and Spoetnik and a few others I can't recall off the top of my head), and that was the case with you as well.  I think I asked the question offhandedly in a post not too long ago, so at least now I know.

By the way, if you wanted replies you probably shouldn't have made this thread self-moderated.  Just saying.

Yeah, it is true that we are probably just different nicknames in this forum, and only a few members have had the opportunity to meet one another in real life. However, i think 10 years and longer is a very long time to stay in an online forum, and it is worth creating a thread for such a milestone. Well done QS, i also hope you are doing well.

Congratulations,10 years is not an easy matter, especially since most of those interested in the forum lose their enthusiasm after 2 halvings, or an average of 8 years. The forum has changed a lot since I joined.

It can be that, or just nostalgia. It is quite a milestone after all...
I've had thoughts to make such a thread when my account became 10 yo, but I didn't.

My account is just a little bit older than that: it's from February
And you know what? I wish everybody just do well, no matter they've joined in 2014 or in all the other years!

I am sure the list can be a lot longer, but I don't want to go on that route, since it can easily replace nostalgia with regrets, although I like to believe (no matter it's the reality or not) that most of those who have left just got rich and now they're busy drinking margaritas.

10 years is a hell of a long time, I’m not too far behind you on the 10 year anniversary, September 2014 I joined.

A decade around the forum is surely a long time. I have spent about 6 years now, and it seems like I have been here forever 
In the past few months (probably 4–5 months ago), I noticed your reduced forum activity and wondered what you might have been up to. Anyway, glad to know that you are still around. At the end of the day, we are all just humans behind these usernames with different challenges in life outside the forum.

Yeah if there was a special badge for being member for decade. I'm surprised me too achieved this milestone. Time is really flying too fast. Although I was only reader exploring different threads here and there and seldomly write/react to the things mostly. But I enjoyed a lot.

Excellent, you are still given a long life and can visit here again. It's four years between me and you getting to know the community here, but I still know and remember when you became a celebrity on the reputation board in 2019, I remember that, it doesn't feel like 10 years have passed.

Just looked my 10 year mark here was a few months ago. Didn't even remember. Congrats on making it a decade.

Just had my 25th anniversary on another forum.

And dang I'm old just looked and had 30+ anniversary on another. Signed up when the only way to surf was a on Lynx which is a text only browser on a site (if you could even call it that) that had no name only IP address to get to it. But damn we traded a lot of hardware on it.

Not one to mince words, are you, Vod? His attitude sure left a bitter taste in your mouth and honestly it's good to be true about your feelings instead of burying it with fake words and a pretentious attitude but I guess there's the saying " let bygones be bygones" right? Maybe you can just bury the hatchet and let it go? At least he admitted to have made some mistakes he's not proud of which shows that he's a human after all.

To the op, @QS,  wow! Just as you said, when doing things you love you tend to forget how quick time can fly and all of a sudden it's ten years! Well, I won't want to make this sound like a eulogy but you deserve your flowers..I do not know you since I'm practically a noob where you are concerned but that won't stop me from congratulating you on your ten year milestone mark. Big ups, QS!!

Wow, same goes for you as well!  Now I have to ask, if I was a piece of basic forum furniture, what kind would I be?  I picture a very uncomfortable, hard-backed chair that nobody would sit on unless they plopped a cushion on it.  And Quickseller?  I'd have to think a bit on that one.

Lol.  Don't know if that's going to happen, but it'd be nice.  There's another alt of his I used to be familiar with but have long forgotten about since QS has been silent for so long.  Anyway, he never wronged me personally but I did leave him a neg for the self-escrow debacle (I think), and I'd certainly forgive and forget if there was some contrition on his part.  On the bright side, QS hasn't repeated any of that behavior, so that's a positive thing.
