It is the first time ever a President nominee in the USA accepts Bitcoin donation for his campaign by Bitcoin Lightning Network.

Trump Becomes First President To Accept Bitcoin Lightning Payments For Campaign Donations.

The team of Trump's campaign accept it by partnering with Opennode. I don't judge anything about Trump and his team but I see he is actually a creative man and proved it through his life and business career as well as political career recent years. He doesn't refuse to accept anything, even it is very new, if it can potentially helps him to get benefit.

Number of opened channels drop but Sum of channel value recovers and increases since September 2023.

Well, to correct your take, Trump is not the first presidential candidate to accept Bitcoin payment via lightning network since Robert F. Kennedy was the first to do this but others have started accepting payment in Bitcoin and the person to bring this pattern in was Kentucky Senator, Rand Paul in 2016. Back then, to accept payment in crypto was regarded as "wading into strange waters"
Most of these politicians are not really against Bitcoin but will not be bold to stand up for it when it matters, to them anything that will sway the public into lobbying for them should be used to their advantage and it will be wise to not trust the words of politicians.

If the OP would stand to be corrected, you are right to say Donald Trumps is not the first electoral candidate to commend on the adoption of Bitcoin payments of lightening network.

However, Trump has been crypto pro which he had made publicly more visible than anyone else. Perhaps that would enlarge his electorial teams speculations and gaining him hope to achieve his political goal of winning the US presidential election. Yes quite agreed that politicians are not reliable as they could make unfulfillable promises.

I wonder whether they decide to use OpenNode since it offer feature to automatically convert Bitcoin to fiat.

That person isn't really popular though, since it seems almost everyone talk about Trump or Biden as next president. So it's not surprising some media news intentionally write false news title because they pro Trump or want more people read news they write.

I don't see how this helps bitcoin in anyway. In fact the involvement of any politician with Bitcoin shouldn't be news and shouldn't be reported at all. We know their intentions. Once they clench power, they'll resume their direct and sponsored attack on Bitcoin. For those who have the technical knowledge and expertise of Bitcoin, please I encourage you to keep creating decentralized and privacy software tools that would shield us from these politicians so that they cannot reach us once they win and reveal their true colors.

You didn't hear about Rand Paul because back then although he started accepting crypto, particularly bitcoin as means of payment for his political campaigns, he still had some misgivings about the currency, preferring it were backed by a more stable commodity like gold. Also despite his bid to get into the good books of business magnates who have soft spot for the Libertarians so as to help his aim of being president, the best he could achieve is being a senator of Kentucky till date so its normal for him to take back seat against Trump and Biden who have served as presidents and the latter is still serving.
Trump is more recognized as having started accepting bitcoin as payment for his political campaign as he was one, if not the first, president to be pro bitcoin which kind of pushes him to the forefront whenever crypto activities are mentioned.

If you want to give your money to a liar and convicted felon, go ahead.  You're just throwing your money away, though.  That selfish piece of shit isn't going to do anything for you even if he did get re-elected.  And he's probably going to jail and won't be able to run for president anyway.

I wonder how things will unfold after the Elections.  Because I have yet to see some body who actually makes the Bitcoin regulations better, not worse.

This is in fact a good strategy for his campaign considering the number of people who know about Bitcoin and are or would use it is significant enough to shift the votes toward his side.  If there is one thing I learned all my life however.  It is to never hope the promises of a Politician turn into reality, because most of the time either they half ass do it or they do not do it at all.

Not going into any political debate, but Trump is trying to market himself in every way possible. Cryptocurrency in USA is a big market and it has a huge user base. A lot of people are actually disgruntled about how regulatory agencies are constantly coming after the crypto companies. With Trump's political donation avenue, people may think Trump will get them some relief here.

Having more options is a good thing. At least Trump is not trying to hide the information like Modi!

The Bitcoin community in the last few months:

I have a hard feeling that we shouldn't be praising about that person. He accepts lightning, and other crypto for his donations. So what? It's naive to think that he's pro-Bitcoin, because Bitcoin literally takes the power of him. And, judging by his previous presidency, it's highly likely that he won't abide by his promises.

I agree with you that you cannot trust what politicians are saying because they are just trying to do everything to achieve their own goals. But that doesn't mean we absolutely hate politicians or governments because without government approval, bitcoin wouldn't have become as popular as it is today. If they do not legalize bitcoin and issue a harsh ban on bitcoin, we will certainly have many difficulties in using bitcoin. Governments may be bitcoin's biggest barrier, but they can also pave the way for bitcoin's global adoption.

Donating Bitcoin to Trump's campaign through the Bitcoin Lightning Network is great news for the Bitcoin community right now, but what's next?

I mean, if Trump wins the presidency, will he continue with the same friendly approach towards cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin? We cannot judge unless we see written decisions on the ground. Otherwise, everything remains just electoral propaganda for the presidential campaign.

For my part, I hope that this is true and I believe that it is possible because I see a lot of change in the United States’ policy towards cryptocurrencies, and even President Biden a few days ago passed a resolution in favor of cryptocurrencies.

It is the first time ever a President nominee in the USA accepts Bitcoin donation for his campaign by Bitcoin Lightning Network.

For sure he is not the first to start this, but what i still don't get here is how his acceptance of bitcoin lightning network will increase his chances of winning the election, though i don't have a doubt about the massive influx he could derive from this act from the bitcoin users across the globe, but am beginning to sense if this is not more of being a personal criterial for the people to use on individuality and the campaign organization each candidate belongs, if he is that lucky, maybe the use of bitcoin and the lightning network incorporation could help his achievement pilot towards having higher edge over the opposition candidate, whereas, Biden has also made mentioned that its not that he is against bitcoin, stating his own reasons as well, bitcoin is becoming more attractive with all these that the new government regime we may have will now have a serious consideration over it unlike before.

The effect of this political move on Bitcoin might not be big, but this kind of news promotes the coin. The knowledge that a leading presidential aspirant is associating himself with Bitcoin gives the currency more publicity and possible adoption. However, his intention is just to accept donations nothing more. Politicians are like chameleons that keep changing based on circumstances, so they cannot be trusted.

Trump is a hero to core Republicans. To them, Trump is their savior and is persecuted by the democrats to diminish his chances of winning the elections. Biden is the better evil because I will never vote for an unapologetic racist.

Wow I wasn’t really expecting that one. He probably has a camping manager that knows the latest techs/memes etc. Back in the day in 2015 I was playing a mmorpg game and people were spamming “Trump 2016!!!” on global chat. I was like, who teh fuck is tramp and what is with 2016? Then he won… He definitely has a pro campaigner team and they are excellent at doing their job.

Bitcoin has a hardcore fanbase and looks like they will support Trump in the upcoming elections. It is a win/win situation for everyone.

It would not be the first time he is using speculation and Conspiracies to his advantage.  There have been a few other circumstances before where groups of people believed in some particular Conspiracies and Trump hundred percent took advantage of it indirectly feeding their fire just so he can praise his own butt.

I am pretty much neutral.  All I want is the better of our Society.  But honestly.  I think there have only been a handful of Presidencies all over the world in the past decades that made their country a better place.  Most of them just suck off the opportunity of making more money, creating new Laws for their own good and so on.  Society, citizens are never a priority.

I am sick of this B S.  No matter who gets chosen in which country, it is still the same cycle.  3 years of losing hope, 1 year of preparing for the next seemingly hopeful Presidency.  Repeat.

From the reactions I have seen online, it seems this is a new trick in the West, in my country it’s normal to see politicians do and say all sorts of things to win the hearts of the people. Trump is simply trying to win the hearts of the crypto community, I believe his team have done their research on the percentage of voters who are pro bitcoin and vice versa before coming to the conclusion that positioning Trump as pro bitcoin would increase their popularity.

Trump is targeting crypto community to gain more political advantage over Biden but if whatever he does is not just for sake of political favor but he's genuinely interested in cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin then I think he could be a good candidate for presidential elections.

I'm not sure whether his victory could be beneficial for anyone or not but if he stay firm and continue supporting cryptocurrencies even after becoming the president of United States then things will be much smother for crypto community of United States.

I know it's not a great think to accept donation via Bitcoin but it's the first step to show that he's now into crypto market and surely as a businessmen he will try to earn good returns in this bull run if he secretly hold a huge stash of Bitcoin.

Trump definitely knows how to play the game,  becoming pro bitcoin and using as a means of fundraising will certainly bring the huge crypto community to his advantage without breaking a sweat. Hopefully he will remain this positive and supportive if he gets re-elected in the upcoming election.
