How can addiction be "right"? It's not a good thing, it leads to unfortunate and miserable situations. People being non functional and failing to complete even their own goals is a bad thing for sure.

I'd go as far as to say that it should also be part of our collective responsibility to support institutions that are doing their best to help addicted persons be able to step out of addiction. OP just said a gambler used his son to gamble, if the story being said is real then their should be something mentally faulty affecting that person because obviously it is something a normal person would not do, he needs to go see a therapist and same go for psychiatric check up. Addiction is a bad phenomenon that everyone should be scared off, not just gambling alone, in various functions that can be harmful when excessively involved.
