I have a relative that recently got a job after he was scammed by this similar pattern of scammers due to his eagerness to get a job as a fresh graduate. Paid money requested from him by an acclaimed job agent online who claimed to have job openings contracts with companies, after 24hrs of payment all means of contact was blocked that was when he realized it was a scam. Any job that's genuine, whosoever that's involve will always ask you give him a certain percentage from your first salary for his services after you have gotten the job. Anything outside that, run.
We're humans and it wouldn't be right to get scammed after gaining useful knowledge that have given us access to top projects and technology in the space. Put enough pressure when it comes to modern age technology and online cryptocurrency, everyone wants to be fed from the hardwork of other people, this is the filled void where scams comes in the picture. Still surprising that people still fall for this cheap scam, funny how people believe everything they see on the internet.

Wherever these scammers are getting our numbers and emails, it's always best to use phone numbers in public which is like a spare to you. If in your country you are allowed to own more than 2 numbers then always keep 1 for your private contact and only a few people and close friends and relatives know that number. While the other is for signing up and for whatever stuff that you're going to do. These scams are normal in messaging platforms like in Telegram, they'll chat you out of nowhere and will start a conversation. Don't get on it and as soon as they message you, ignore or block them so that there won't be any further discussions that shall lead to their sweet and deceitful words.

Most of these scammers usually get your information from sites you submitted them, example is the breach of coingecko that was announced. If we study that now the information they will get their will be users ID/email and they start sending phishing links to them. One advice has always been use a throwaway emails or phone for registration purposes like this and then have a personal one for official use. As for social media accounts like telegram all you need to do is to restrict new accounts from messaging you or better still you ignore the messages. Scams like this will not end you only need to get more security conscious everyday as new techniques are been introduced.

I sometime works on a WFH setup but only from reputable site, and a reputable employers/account. The rest will be ignored, especially for someone who will ask money first for you to start the job is a big no-no for me. It already questions the purpose of finding jobs. Job seekers suppose to get hired and getting paid, not the other way around lol.

The scammer will message you and offer you an online job. The scammer will be receiving the money from the job and he will not later pay you anything. Or it can be a fake job but the scammer will later ask you to pay an amount of money to get more and better offer. The victim account that the scammer created for the victim on the platform would be getting credited but it is not money but just a number to deceive the victim. If the person pay the money that the scammer told him to pay, that is just how he or she has been scammed.

This is very ridiculous and we get to learn everyday in the crypto space. I haven’t heard of something like this before but something similar to it. This scam might not be a popular one but once the scammer begins to act otherwise or cunny, it is already a red flag that dealing with such person is under big risk and you should stay away from whatever he/she wishes to give no matter how enticing it is. Learning new things and getting the right exposure in the crypto space will really help a lot. And sharing of informative and caution news are important like this one to enlighten the community here in order to take full responsibility of maintaining their assets and not exposing it to the public.

In last few years we are having too much demand about the jobs with peoples love to work from home, but sadly this is not working positive for the all because usually we are having scams and fraud things around us which are creating problems for the many which are already having issues in life due to having not good jobs or living areas where things are not going as they needed with this all sadly we are also having not proper things which can help them.
We are having few peoples those are able to work without any problem and also having regular work and payments which are helping them in this difficult time I am also trying to have something which will give some support to them but sadly right now nothing happening.

I completely agree that crypto space is full of surprises and we must stay vigilant. This particular scam may be uncommon but its uniqueness does not make it less dangerous. As soon as someone exhibits suspicious behavior it is red flag to stay away no matter how appealing their offer may seem may be highly profitable. Sharing informative and cautionary news like this is crucial to empower community and to make awareness in community to take responsibility for their assets and keep them safe from potential threats. Because this is the big issue at this time that how to safe our assets.

I used to do freelance jobs before and I had a few unpaid tasks from clients whom I never heard from again after submission of outputs. I later on demanded from my future clients to pay me in advance at least in the first week or with my first tasks. That became my condition and they didn't seem to mind it. That effectively kept scammers away. Scammers won't probably pay you for now in order to scam you in the future. They'd rather move on to the next victim.

As for employers who ask money from jobseekers, I can't seem to understand why the latter would fall victim to it. That's kind of an obvious scam to me.

Anyone looking for work on the Internet should expect such cases. We don’t see the people who hire us, and even if we do, we still can’t do anything in case of non-payment since sometimes we are in different countries. However, paying the employer in advance, no matter what reason can be invented, should already raise doubts.

I also had a similar experience when I was not paid, but after some time, I gained experience in communicating with people who are willing to pay or not pay. And, of course, you always need to have a large circle of trusted people who can confidently recommend you as an employee.

I get your point. But by insisting that your client pay upfront, you lower your chances of getting that online job unless they confirm that you're  legitimate freelancer. I have experienced this many times: when I ask for an upfront payment or even a 50% down payment, clients often find other freelancers who agree to be paid after the work is completed.

I even experienced this kind of scam in SMS, and even on social like Telegram and Discord they are offering a small amount for the small task you need to do, and they will pay you after multiple task they will now offer you something higher rewards that requires at least a deposit if that so better to escape and save your self and asset with just a small amount of money, as possible if you have an asset better to make a separate the use of those crypto funds into your personal computer like having virtual machine is the most ideal or using different device always make sure your main device is safe from different attacks.

Tell your people about this. They should avoid online scam like this one.
Well there is a reason why they say the first thing to always watch when surfing the internet for jobs opportunities is to actually avoid any too good to be true policies because those are the ones that would be get you into deep shit especially if you are the type that your greed can be easily aroused. There are so many cases of this type of scams and one of the most popular ones am well aware of is the trending job offers that some freelance sites that are filled with scammers present as legit opportunities. It's quite simple though, they offer you a job with big money and then still ask you to register with the company online which requires a certain amount of payment then after that still give you work and when done with it still ask you to pay for some other crazy things.

This is a different kind of scam from what OP is describing but yeah, it exists too, most often we can see them via SMS in the old days now probably reaching out to people in WhatsApp. Grin

Pay me $50, now the scammer will pay you $10 and to get your $50 now pay me $100 and this goes on and on until the victim realize oh shit I just got f*cked up...

The number of scams is increasing everyday and it is difficult for it to be prevented. Awareness and exposure of their tricks is what is needed.  As for me, any thing that requires me to pay for it first before getting my money out of it, is a red flag and I know that it is a scam. Whether it is crypto, e-commerce, or in any other business they are the same. Scammers always have a modus operandi and they are easy to spot unless their victims are blinded by greed.

It is not necessarily greed that blinds them, because in many cases they have little experience in the field of working on the Internet and do not possess all the skills, especially with regard to money management, whether to buy online some tools they need or to receive payments. In addition, many countries still do not allow their citizens to own international payment cards, which makes it easier for scammers to promise to provide available payment methods. In my country, for example, freelancers cannot apply for job offers from outside the country because they do not have any way to receive payments, and therefore they are quickly swayed by any of the offers that are presented to them. Crypto is supposed to help overcome all these obstacles, but unfortunately also, the culture of Crypto is not widespread enough, and reliable freelancing platforms do not support Crypto.

This has been happening for a long time now... I'm even surprised that it persist cause, why should anyone fall for such scams in 2024? C'mon bro!!! I'd be damned if anyone ever sent out his coins, just to have another coins back into his wallet... That's just him being too sloww!

I'm basically up for the new tech waves that isn't relinquishing just too soon... I mean, that could take anyone out no matter how knowledgeable you are. On the other hand, what happens is that they sometimes make costly and pay their savings for it.
The number of scams is increasing everyday and it is difficult for it to be prevented.
True. I could recall someone saying that the scam won't stop. All the cyber security can do is expose every new trick they have in stock.

Tell your people about this. They should avoid online scam like this one.
Scammers study what loopholes suit the circumstances to carry out their mission. When economic conditions are difficult due to limited space for a job that increases every year, then the situation will be used as an opportunity. The victims will be targeted randomly.
No matter how strong the stance is against seduction, if it is related to the opportunity to get a job, it can be affected.

Fraud models such as those sourced from the link must be reminded often to family and close friends so that they do not fall into the way they act.
As far as I can remember, I have experienced an incident similar to this mode, but I didn't care when they asked for money with the lure of a job.

Tell your people about this. They should avoid online scam like this one.
It's a pretty old scamming technique but it's still running actively in the market because scammers know most people these days are looking for ways to earn money online so that they can stay at home and earn money instead of going outside for some job only to get a small amount as their salary at the end of the month. Such people are usually vulnerable and they are easy targets for scammers, so scammers get them in their trap by first being friendly with them and persuading them with their stories and stuff.

The victims are told that they can earn a lot of money if they invest a specific amount, once they do that, they will show them that their amount is increasing every day in the fake app or website they have created, and at the end, to get more money from the victim, they ask to deposit more funds to withdraw the current funds in that fake website or app.

It is only a ploy to steal your crypto if your online employer asks you to send them coins before they hire you, or if they try to deceive you to invest in scam platforms, or send you malware that is designed to steal your crypto.

Other times you can come across employers who don't want to steal from you, but they'll deceive you to work for them and at the end of the day, they'll not pay you what you guys agreed in the beginning, thus it is essential to seek upfront payment for online jobs, especially when you are working with your employer for the first time.

If you can get as much as spare numbers just for these numbers by your government you do it. That's a way to protect yourselves as well but it's gonna be hectic that every time you register, you'll get to use a different number and that's wholly separated from your main account. But that's fine, it's your strategy so that you won't get to fuse with your actual purposes and just for spare purposes. It's also about how your trust and confidence to the website you're registering. Other than that, don't be too entertaining with random calls and emails.

I completely agree that any request from online employer to send cryptocurrency before hiring or investment in suspicious platforms is red flag for scams. Additionally be cautious of malware disguised as legitimate work materials. Unfortunately some employers may not intend to steal your crypto but still fail to deliver on promised payments. To protect yourself it is crucial to negotiate upfront payment or  secure payment method for online work especially with new employers. We don't risk our hard earned crypto prioritize transparency and secure payment practices.

Something similar to this has happened to me on telegram, but I was smart enough to know it was a scam because I was already aware of the trick. A lady from nowhere sent me a message on telegram asking me to invest my money in a platform where I would get my profit based on the amount of money I would invest. Since the telegram account was not saved as my contact and no admin of any telegram group will ever send you a message first, I knew the lady intended to scam me, so I immediately blocked her on the telegram to avoid any possible loss.
