So I've been doing some consideration with what I've been doing with solo mining so far.

I feel I've been overdoing it and spending way too much for something that's meant to be a very inexpensive mining set up.

There was an enclosure I made for my ASIC that was also running as a solo miner and now feel it's overkill. Instead I decided to look in to building a GPU mining rig that can also do CPU mining.

There was a build I saw that I liked and wanted to get others opinions on it.

This rig would be a cheap one, I'm okay with buying used parts, on some things, but some I would buy new.
I would also want a robust setup, that the parts are specifically designed for mining so it won't burn out in less than a year. Then also a rig for someone that is starting out and doesn't want get the top of line gear, or have 10 GPUs running at the same time. Here are the components:

Motherboard - Biostar TB360 BTC Pro 2.0 (USED)

CPU for CPU and GPU mining - Intel Core i7 9700k (USED)
or
CPU for GPU mining only - Intel Celeron G5925 (NEW)

CPU water cooler (NEW)

4GB DDR4 Ram (NEW)

Storage - SSD 60GB (NEW)

PSU - CORSAIR RMe Series RM1200e ATX Power Supply, [80 Plus Gold] (NEW)

GPU - x2 INVIDIA CMP 30 HX

OS - HiveOS on Linux

Some of these components are not the typical GPUs, or motherboard, but specifically for mining, they are also very inexpensive, available used and will/should last longer than conventional components.

Total cost could be around $600-$800.

What would some thoughts be on this setup?

That costs to much. It's better to buy a used mining case of eBay for cheap, and get server psus with breakout boards, and use the rest of the money saved to buy more/better gpus.

Hrm. Okay, so you mean something that already has all that put together? Like this?
Mining case:

And this?
Server PSU:

That case has a 2500 watt psu

it needs 180 to 240 volt power.

if you can provide a 240 volt outlet that case is a very good deal.

you can run 8 rtx 3060ti or 8  rtx 3070 gpu easy peasy

Woo! 2400 watts. That's a big one. I'm definitely not gonna push the PSU to that limit. Maybe a few hundred watts at most, at first.

But yes, I installed a 100 amp subpanel just for mining with one 15 amp 240v circuit and one 15 amp 120v circuit. It's only 15 amps cause I only planned on using a small ASIC. And then only using a couple GPUs doesn't pull that much either.

Edit: I also didn't notice the case also came with a PSU. That's awesome.
The PSU sticker says 80 Plus Platinum which is amazing, but it makes me wonder how all that is so cheap.

Well, $195 isn't cheap where it came from; China, plus it's second-hand.

Also, those Julongfengbao 2000W/2500W PSU are (were) being sold for something less than $40 brand new.
For that price-range, don't count on the label's ratings including the 80+ Platinum sticker.

The good news is: those are "well-tested" for years and from the looks of the sample images, haven't caused fire... yet.

if he does xelis mining with 3060 ti or 3070 they pull about 100 watts each.

so the rig would do 800-900 watts against a 2500 watt psu.

it should mind you should be fine.

of course any mining gear can fail.

Oof. Well that's a little disconcerting.
In that case I'm installing these automatic fire extinguishers next to the unit and a smoke detector near by.

Thought I'm a little uncertain, I think I'm gonna go for it, but I will still be making a custom rack to put all the components in.

The PSU is critical, a faulty one can brick other components like expensive GPUs.
I suggest replacing the used PSU of questionable quality with a new one from a well known brand.

I agree. It's making me feel like I should just go with my original idea. After putting all the parts together, between to two different rigs, there's only a $200 difference and with the first rig, I would feel more confident the parts would be better quality.

Yeah, I have that feeling too, I was deciding which was the better choice.

Well I did it. I ordered my stuff.

I decided to go with my original plan cause I was a little leery about the reliability and quality of the mining case. It looks like a killer deal and it might be fine, but I still have to make a custom rack and it has to fit inside the enclosure I made for a couple reasons. I'm not sure I could trust the equipment in the enclosure and not have something happen, or it craps out after a few months.

Even with the stuff I ordered, I still got one of those automatic fireball extinguishers that I'll install inside the enclosure, just in case.

PSU - CORSAIR RMe Series RM1200e ATX Power Supply, [80 Plus Gold] (NEW)

What would some thoughts be on this setup?
My thoughts Smiley I spend 700 dollars and get equipment that, with 5 cents of electricity cost, gives 30 cents of profit per day.
With such a payback of more than 2000 days, I don’t see the point in buying all this.
You need to either look for purchasing options at a cheaper price.
I would not buy the CMP 30HX, because it is very old hardware that cannot be sold later. It’s better to make a mining farm using regular video cards, which you can then sell to gamers.
